Like most front load washers, the door on the WF520ABW opens from right to left and cannot be reversed to open from left to right because of the location of the door lock. The dryer doors, however, are reversible. Instructions to reverse the dryer door can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from Samsung's website for your convenience.

They come from the factory set up to be used as you describe. The washer door opens from the right side and the dryer opens from the left side. When side by side with the washer on the left and the dryer on the right, the doors open from the middle making it perfect to move clothes from washer to dryer. The dryer door can also be configured to open on the right side if so desired, but the washer door is fixed.

Question

Why does washer not use "hot" water when I have selected the "HOT" tempurature for washing?

We just had our WF520ABW delivered and set up by the company that we purchased it from. While doing my first 2 loads of laundry, I chose the "HOT" setting for the wash tempurature. During the wash (NOT rinse!) cycle of both loads, I stopped the machine and opened the door to check on the hotness of water; it was NOT hot at all, but rather cold. I like to wash my sheets and towels in HOT water, and that's what I expect to be able to do with a brand new machine!

I understand that you'd like to be able to wash in hot water. Please try the following steps to determine what's preventing the hot wash cycle from working properly.

1. Is the hot water heater set to at least 120°F and is the hot water valve to the washer turned on all the way?
2. Are the hot and cold hoses attached correctly? Also check the water inlet screens on the back of the washer to make sure there is nothing blocking it.
3. Run hot water through the pipe leading to the washer by turning on the nearest hot water tap in order to flush any cold water through the pipe.
4. Run a test cycle on an empty machine by selecting a hot water cycle and pressing Start/Pause. Once the machine fills up, press Start/Pause again, open the door once it unlocks and check the water. If the water still isn't hot, your washer may require service.

If it is hot, then the issue may have been that there was cold water sitting in the pipes which filled the washer before the hot water made it through. The solution to this is to flush the cold water from the hot water pipe by running the nearby tap prior to running the washer.

Another option is to run a Sanitize cycle which will use the washer's internal water heater to raise the water temperature to above 150°F.

If you determined that service is necessary, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for the question. It is normal for the water to be difficult to see given the low water use of front load washers as well as the fact that Samsung's drum tilts toward the back. Because of this, there is likely more water in your washer than you realize, particularly if the clothes are getting wet. To determine whether your WF520 is filling with the appropriate amount of water, please click on the following link, then select "Troubleshooting ► Water Related ► There is No Water Or Not Enough Water": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

This article also includes the troubleshooting tips for addressing a low-water level.

Question

17 inch clearance above washer?

My washer was installed by Lowe's. There is a cabinet a few inches away from the top of the machine, but it is over the back half or less. Why is the 17 inches of space above the unit needed as stated in the owners manual? The model # is WF520AB. Does the cabinet need to be removed?

The clearance requirement you're referring to is based on installing the washer and dryer in an alcove or closet. It is very important to have adequate ventilation for the dryer in particular. If the dryer is not in a confined space, then it is fine to have a cabinet installed above it, though I would suggest you avoid having it so close it could touch in case there is any vibration, since noise could result.

Like most front load washers, the WF520 automatically detects the size of the load and sets the water level to optimize efficiency. Samsung washers use between 13 and 15 gallons of water per cycle, and qualify for the highest level of efficiency ratings by Energy Star and Tier 3 CEE which are based on both energy and water use. For more information on these standards, please visit EnergyStar.gov.

Thank you for the question. Using 90-degree elbows is not recommended as standard practice for the installation of the WF520 washer, so if you do choose to use them and notice a problem with water pressure, or with the washer's ability to fill properly, the elbows could be the cause and should be removed.

Question

Is there anything I can do to eliminate the moldy smell from remaining water between front gasket & metal rim?

I've had my washer for over 1 year. After the wash cycle, water remains along the front door gasket & beneath the gasket - this smells terrible and often leaves clothes smelling moldy. Any recommendations please.

It is not unusual for the drum to not spin in a perfect circle. As long as the WF520 is leveled properly on the outside the drum inside should not cause the washer to vibrate. Please follow this link to view a short video that may help to explain this: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...

Thanks for the question. Samsung front load washers, including the WF520, use approximately 13-15 gallons of water per cycle. It's not unusual for it to be difficult to see the water, however, because the drum tilts toward the back. The addition of the Power Foam feature in the WF520 would make the water even more difficult to see, and the foam itself may appear more robust in some cycles than others, depending on the type of fabric, the water supply, detergent, and other factors. If you need further assistance, please feel free to call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to help.

Samsung recommends a vertical discharge of no more than nine feet, with a maximum of thirteen feet in any direction, based on the pump's capability. The distance you're trying to cover is more than 17 feet, so I would suggest looking for an alternate location to bring your washer closer to the drain facility if at all possible.

Question

Washed clothes not smelling fresh

I have read many reviews on this product (WF 520) not just on this website but countless others and see that there are many complaints of clothing (work clothing, towels etc) not smelling fresh or taking care of odors etc. I feel that this is a huge red light to consumers especially for the large cost of item. Is this problem due to the machines foam feature and not use of water like most machines?

Thank you for the question. First, the WF520 does use water. The Power Foam feature infuses the detergent with water and air to pre-dissolve so it penetrates fabrics faster, similar to the way a foam hand soap is pre-dissolved to cover more with less and to rinse cleaner. Samsung front load washers, including the WF520, use approximately 13 to 15 gallons of water per cycle.

Odors, which are not unusual in front load washers, are caused by bacteria introduced to the washer from the home's water supply, the dirty laundry, and other environmental factors, and there are some basic maintenance procedures that can help prevent these odors from developing. The WF520 is equipped with PureCycle, a pre-programmed cycle that helps to clean the drum inside and out, and should be used after every 40 loads, or approximately once a month. For more information, please refer to the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.

Wiping down the door and gaskets and washing out the detergent drawer with warm water periodically can help, as well. It is also very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent to help prevent oversudsing which can lead to odor. Samsung also recommends cleaning the debris filter, which is accessible through the panel on the front of the washer. Instructions for cleaning the debris filter can be found in the User Manual. To help remove odors that have already developed, try running a sanitize cycle with bleach, and wipe down the door and gaskets with a bleach solution.

Question

Why doesn't my new WF520ABW/XAA use the hot water connection for Hot Water?

This is my second WF520 in less than a month. If I select Hot or Warm, the washer takes water only from the COLD supply. Of the many cycles available, only 2 use any water from the HOT supply- Heavy Duty W/W setting and Heavy Duty W/C setting. All the rest use cold water and then the washer heats them up on some cycles. No WARM rinse is warm. Always below 60°F. I've tested them all.

Thank you for the question. While it is not unusual for the hot and cold valves to cycle on and off, the overall wash or rinse temperature should match what was selected. If you're going to check the temperature, however, you should do it after the water has finished entering the machine for that portion of the cycle, as opposed to checking the temperature in, say, the dispenser drawer. Checking the temperature in the drawer will not give you the most accurate reading since the valves may still be in the process of cycling.

If you find the water temperature is not what you expect, please first check to make sure both hot and cold valves are turned on all the way, and the inlet hose screens are clean. Check for blockage within the dispenser drawer (removing the drawer and rinsing it with warm water should clear any detergent residue that could be causing a blockage); and make sure your cycle and temperature selections are what you intended. I would also suggest checking your home's water supply - the recommended set temperature is 120°F.

If these suggestions do not resolve your concerns, and you find that warm and hot water settings on the WF520 yield only cold water temperatures, it's possible your washer will require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Samsung recommends following the fabric or item manufacturers' instructions for choosing the appropriate cycle and wash temperature. The WF520 does have a "Delicate/Hand Wash" cycle you may want to consider, along with the ability to select cold/cold wash/rinse temperature and low or no spin settings. These would ensure the most gentle settings available if you choose to machine wash these items.

Thank you for the question. To set the Delay Start option, press the Delay Start button repeatedly to select the number of hours you'd like the washer to wait before starting. For example, if you put the load in at 8am and you want the washer to start at 4pm, press the Delay Start button until the display reads 8:00, for an 8-hour delay. The Delay Start on the WF520 can be set for up to 24 hours.
