What are the overall dimensions when a WF448 and DV448 are stacked? How much clearance is required around the stacked units?

When the units are stacked, the WF448/DV448 laundry pair is 27" wide by 78" high by 36" deep. The amount of clearance needed around the stacked units depends on where they will be located (alcove or closet installation requires more clearance for air circulation) and how they will be vented. The electric dryer can be vented four ways (back, bottom, left or right), while the gas dryer can be vented only three ways (back, bottom or left side). Please refer to the DV448 User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website, for more information about clearance and venting. I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing odors in your WF448. Fortunately, this model is equipped with a feature called SilverCare, which is very effective in helping to eliminate odors caused by bacteria and preventing mold and mildew in the washer, and SilverCare can be used in any temperature water. Please refer to page 18 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website, for instructions on using SilverCare. Regular use of the SilverCare cycle (1-2 times per week as part of your regular laundry routine), can help to keep both your washer and your clothes fresh-smelling and mildew-free.

Other options to help keep the washer clean include Steam wash and Sanitize cycles with bleach, wiping down all gaskets, doors and accessible surfaces in the washer, and cleaning the debris filter regularly.

Are there any special precautions we should take to prevent damage to the unit in a move?

We are moving across town and there are no instructions in the user manual for for preparing the unit for transport. We are moving a WF448AE and a WF448AAW. We kept the packing bolts that came with it, but aren't sure how to reinstall them if necessary.

Thank you for the question. To keep the WF448 safe while moving, you should reinsert the four shipping bolts to stabilize the drum during transport. Using the wrench that came with the unit, or any other properly sized wrench, simply insert each bolt through the hole in the back of the washer so that it aligns with the threading in the hole on the drum, and then turn the bolt so that it tightens securely. If necessary, you could remove the top of the washer by taking out the two screws in the back that hold it in place, then simply slide the lid back and up.

Best of luck with your move!

Question

how many towels can one put in the washer wf448aaw

I have trouble with the washer not spinning out, I only have 12 - 16 towels, in it. Takes forever to deside it is not going to spin out and shut itself down. Have to take wet towels out then recycle with only about 8 or 9 nine towels in it on spin only. It spins out fine then, this is more than a pain.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The 4.5 cubic foot WF448 is designed to hold up to 28 standard size (24" x 44") bath towels. If your towels are larger than that standard size, then fewer would fit. The issue you're having with the spinning is more likely a result of improper balancing than overloading. I would suggest reviewing the leveling instructions in the Troubleshooting Guide for assistance. Please click on the link below, then select "Installation" > "Installation Procedure" > "STEP 5 Leveling": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Since even a strand of hair or other small item can interfere with the door's ability to seal properly, you may first want to make sure that the seal is clean of debris. Excessive suds can also cause leaking, so be sure to use the correct amount of HE detergent to avoid oversudsing. To determine whether the suds could be your culprit, run a Rinse & Spin cycle with no detergent. If suds develop, it is likely you have been using too much, or not the right kind, of detergent.

If the above solutions do not resolve the issue and the door seal needs to be replaced, Samsung recommends having a licensed technician perform the service. It is not unusual for water and detergent to run down the door, which protrudes beyond the gasket area and deposits most of the detergent into the drum and onto the laundry.

There are a variety of reasons why a washing machine might smell, and remedies to eliminate the odor-causing bacteria introduced to the washer from dirty laundry, water supplies and other external factors are offered both in the User Manual and in the FAQ and Troubleshooting Guides on this website.

Fortunately for you, the WF448 is equipped with two key options that can help to resolve this issue: the SilverCare option and the Sanitize cycle. SilverCare can be added onto almost any preset wash cycle and uses the natural properties of silver ions to help keep both the drum and the laundry fresh-smelling, even in cold water. The Sanitize cycle uses extra hot water (over 150°F) to eliminate the bacteria that causes odor and mildew.

Other methods for reducing odor in your washer include:
- Wiping down the washer door, drum and gaskets, and cleaning the detergent drawer regularly;
- Running Sanitize cycles with bleach and no clothes once per month;
- Run SilverCare once or twice a week as part of your regular wash routine;
- Leave the door of the washer open when not in use to allow fresh air to circulate;
- Do not leave wet clothes sitting in the washer for long periods after the cycle is complete since bacteria thrives in dark, damp areas;
- Be sure to use the right amount of HE detergent, since non-HE or too much HE can leave a soapy residue in and around the drum that can trap bacteria and allow mold and mildew to grow.

I hope these help to resolve your issue,

The time that is shown in the manual is based on pre-programmed estimates and may fluctuate to better indicate the time remaining in the cycle as actual conditions vary from those that the estimates are based on. Factors that can effect the difference between the estimated and actual cycle times include supplied water pressure and temperature, detergent, load size and weight. The amount of suds produced in a cycle can effect the number of rinses that are necessary as well as the ability of the washer to spin properly, for example. An unbalanced load will take longer to wash than a balanced one because the washer will make several attempts to reposition the load so it can spin efficiently and with minimal vibration. Any adjustments to the selected water temperature or soil level, or the addition of options such as Extra Wash, Extra Rinse or SilverCare, will also effect the time estimates.

I'm sorry to hear your washer is now noisy. It is possible that the machine needs to be releveled in the new location. If the washer was moved without reinstalling the shipping bolts and was turned on its side at any point during the move, it is also possible that the machine was damaged in the process.

Thank you for the question. If your clothes are coming out wrinkled, I would suggest reducing the spin speed. Different fabrics are effected differently by very high spin speeds, and may benefit from medium or low speeds. You may also want to consider using the steam feature if you also have the DV448 dryer to remove wrinkles.

If you hear the sound of water running or dripping, I would suggest determining first whether it is running in or through the washer, or through pipes near the washer. Check for leaks in and around the washer, and turn the hot and cold water valves off. If the sound continues, it is likely in the pipes. If the sound stops, then check the water hoses for leaks or obstructions. To replace leaky hoses, visit SamsungParts.com or call 800-627-4368.

If the washer itself is leaking, please call 800-SAMSUNG for further assistance.

Question

My WF448 will not spin my towel loads very dry

When we wash loads of towels, 4 - 8 in a load, they do not spin very fast and are still somewhat wet. Other loads on high or very high spin much better. The machine takes a long time to try to balance the towels but does seem to get them balanced enough to spin fast. Machine is about 6 months old, is this normal or is something wrong? Other loads spin fine even on fast/hard or very fast/hard.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The WF448AAW can hold (and spin!) as many as 28 standard-sized, 24" x 44" bath towels. If your towels are larger than 24" x 44", then you may not be able to fit 28, but the machine should be able to spin fast enough to extract much of the water from the towels. One of the most common reasons for the machine not spinning properly is that it is not completely leveled. Please refer to the Troubleshooting Guide for instructions on leveling the WF448 to significantly reduce vibration and allow the washer to spin effectively. Click here to open the Guide: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

I hope this helps resolve your issue. If not, please use the Live Chat or Phone Support options provided to contact an agent for additional assistance.

I'm sorry to hear you have a musty odor in your WF448 washer. This odor is caused by bacteria that is introduced to the washing machine from the water supply, dirty laundry and other environmental factors, and can get trapped in soap residue on the outside of the drum and in the gaskets and dispenser. Besides the standard maintenance procedures recommended for most front load washers, which include running empty sanitize cycles with bleach, wiping down the gaskets and door between loads, cleaning the soap dispenser regularly, and leaving the door open between loads, it is very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent. In addition, Samsung has developed other options for treating this issue.

The WF448 is equipped with SilverCare, an option that can be added to most cycles simply by pressing the SilverCare button at the start of the cycle. SilverCare can be used in any temperature water and is safe for colors and delicates. This feature releases silver ions which are highly effective in eliminating 99.99% of bacteria.

To treat the odor that has already developed, I would suggest cleaning your washer thoroughly by wiping it down with a bleach solution, then adding SilverCare to your regular laundry routine moving forward - using it at least twice a week to remove the odor causing bacteria from both the washer and your clothes.

Question

Wet clothes after spin cycle

About 5 times since i bought the washer, this issue occurred, where I ran the washer on the NORMAL cycle, and after the wash was complete, the clothes were soaking wet, 3 times when this happened the spin cycle was on normal and 2 times it was on high. What I had to do is to run the SPIN cycle again by itself on very high to rid the clothes of the soaking water. Is that normal?
