Questions & Answers for samsung 4.3 cu. ft. Steam Washer

Question

Can I add longer hoses to my washer?

I want to move my washer and put it where my dryer goes and put my dryer where my washer goes. The reason is, the washers door doesn't open in the direction I need it to and it makes putting wet clothes from the washer to the dryer difficult. Is it all right to put 6 foot hoses on the washer that leads to the water and drain source? Why didn't Samsung design the door so it can be opened from either the right OR the left?

Like most front load washers, the door on the WF448AAW opens from right to left and cannot be reversed to open from left to right because of the location of the door lock.

Accessory inlet hoses may be available in lengths up to 10 feet for faucets that are further than 4 feet away from the back of your washer. Please keep in mind that water pressure of 20-116 psi is required to correctly fill your washer in the proper amount of time; water pressure less than 20 psi may cause water valve failure or other errors when filling the washer.

The drain hose that comes factory installed on your washer is approximately 6' long, and can be extended by purchasing another section of hose, then attaching it to the original hose by clamping them together with a steel sleeve. These parts can be purchased at most hardware or home improvement stores. Samsung recommends a vertical discharge of no more than nine feet, with a maximum of thirteen feet in any direction, based on the pump's capability.

For more information, please refer to the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this website for your convenience.

Question

Wet clothes after spin cycle

About 5 times since i bought the washer, this issue occurred, where I ran the washer on the NORMAL cycle, and after the wash was complete, the clothes were soaking wet, 3 times when this happened the spin cycle was on normal and 2 times it was on high. What I had to do is to run the SPIN cycle again by itself on very high to rid the clothes of the soaking water. Is that normal?

Thank you for the question. Under normal conditions, the WF448AAW should spin the clothes effectively the first time if it is set up and operating properly. Please follow the link below, then select "Operation" > "Clothes Are Very Wet At The End Of The Wash Cycle / Will Not Spin At High Speeds" for troubleshooting tips: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

It is not unusual to hear a slight knocking (or clicking) sound at the beginning or end of the spin cycle. This can be caused by the balls in the Vibration Reduction Technology rings clicking together as they adjust their position during the spin cycle. If the knocking sound is more severe, and is accompanied by a great deal of vibration, then it is likely that your washer has not been leveled properly, and may not be attached to the pedestal securely.

You can remove the pedestal drawer to access the bolts that hold the washer to the pedestal by unscrewing the Phillips head screws from the front of the metal drawer rail (there should be 2-3 screws on each side of the track), then lifting and pulling the drawer off the rail.

For additional assistance, I would suggest reviewing the related articles in the Troubleshooting Guide, by visiting this link then selecting "Installation" or "Operation": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

There are several things you can do to treat and help prevent a musty odor in your WF448AAW washer. This odor is caused by bacteria that is introduced to the washing machine from the water supply, dirty laundry and other environmental factors, and can get trapped in soap residue on the outside of the drum and in the gaskets and dispenser. Besides the standard maintenance procedures recommended for most front load washers, which include running empty sanitize cycles with bleach, wiping down the gaskets and door between loads, cleaning the soap dispenser regularly, and leaving the door open between loads, it is very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent. In addition, Samsung has developed other options for treating this issue.

The WF448 is equipped with SilverCare, an option that can be added to most cycles simply by pressing the SilverCare button at the start of the cycle. SilverCare can be used in any temperature water and is safe for colors and delicates. This feature releases silver ions which are highly effective in eliminating 99.99% of bacteria.

To treat odors that may have already developed, I would suggest cleaning your washer thoroughly by wiping it down with a bleach solution, then adding SilverCare to your regular laundry routine moving forward - using it at least twice a week to remove the odor causing bacteria from both the washer and your clothes.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. If the spots are bluish in color, it may be caused by overfilling the detergent dispenser. Please follow the link below to Open the Troubleshooting Guide, then select "Operation" > "Stains On Clothes" for more information: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

If the stains are not the color of your detergent or other additive, it may be caused by items left in the pockets of your clothes, or from your water supply. Try cleaning the water inlet hose screens and debris filter for clues as to the nature and origin of the stains (remember to turn off the water valve first).

Samsung does not have specific clearance requirements for installing the washer and dryer under a counter, as long as the room has ample ventilation, and there is room behind the units for the hoses and vents. I would suggest leaving enough room around each unit so they are not in contact with other surfaces to prevent vibration or rattling.

I'm sorry to hear you have excessive vibrations with your WF448AAW. Samsung's Vibration Reduction Technology (VRT) is extremely effective in virtually eliminating noise and vibration during high spin speeds, even on second floor installations. Therefore, if your washer is vibrating, it's possible that it either is not installed properly, or there is an issue that could require service to correct. Please follow this link to the Troubleshooting Guide, then select Operation ► Washer Vibrations: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

This article will walk you through the possible solutions to your vibration issues, and also provides a link to request service if these suggestions don't resolve the issue for you.

The SilverCare kit in the WF448 lasts for 1000 cycles. To put this in perspective, if you select the SilverCare option for two loads each week, the silver plates will last nearly ten years; four times per week, and it would last five years. Samsung recommends using SilverCare at least once or twice a week to help keep the washdrum odor and mildew-free.

You can determine whether the part is ready to be replaced by pressing the SilverCare and Signal buttons simultaneously. LU1 indicates less than 1000 cycles of SilverCare have been used; when the code reads LU0, more than 1000 cycles have been run, and it's time to replace the part. Samsung recommends scheduling a service appointment to replace the part. You can contact Samsung for service by submitting an online service request through the link below or calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with stains in your WF448AAW. Please check the inlet filter screens on both the hot and cold water connections on the back of your washer to determine if something may have entered your washer from the water supply. I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your WF448AAW. The water heater in Samsung front loaders serves to boost the temperature of the incoming water to above 150°F during the Sanitize cycle, based on NSF standards. The water temperature in other cycles is monitored by the temperature sensor and is automatically regulated through the opening or closing of the hot and cold inlet water valves. Please check the following to ensure the supplied water and washer are set up properly:
• Turn both faucets on fully.
• Make sure the temperature selection is correct.
• Make sure the hoses are connected to the correct faucets.
• Check your home's water heater. It should be set to at least 120°F. Also check the water heater capacity and recovery rate.
• Disconnect the hoses and clean the screens. The hose filter screens may be plugged.

The further the washer is from the water heater, the longer it can take for standing water to flush through the pipes. Some customers choose to run a nearby tap until hot water comes out to ensure the supplied water is hot when it reaches the washer.

If you are concerned that the steam cycle itself is not working properly because you don't see the steam, it is not unusual for the steam to not be visible. For further assistance, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

If your WF448AAW appears to be using only hot water, even when cold is selected, please check the hoses first to make sure they are attached to the correct water valves. Disconnect the cold water hose from the back of the washer and examine the inlet hose screen for debris or any obstruction that could prevent water flow. Examine the hose itself for kinks or blockage. Try running a cold water cycle again, then pause the washer after it has filled completely and check the temperature of the water inside the drum. If it's still hot, your washer will require service.

It's important to note that the washer may cycle the hot water valve on while it is filling in order to raise the cold water temperature to 60-degrees, which is necessary for activating most detergents today. However, the combined water temperature inside the drum should still feel cold to the touch.
