The washing machine door only swings open from right to left. So my setup is washing machine on the left and dryer on the right. The dryer is the only door that can be reversed.

Like most front-loaders, the door on the WF448AAW opens from right to left and cannot be reversed to open from left to right because of the location of the door lock. The dryer doors, however, are reversible. Instructions to reverse the dryer door can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from samsung.com for your convenience.

Only for a small window of time during the very begining of the cycles.

Just about enough time for you to notice that you dropped a sock on the floor while loading. But not enough time if you dropped the sock by the upstairs bedroom hamper and don't see it until you get back up from the basement laundry room. (BTDT).

Thanks for the question. Yes, the WF448AAW has an "add a garment" option. To ensure thorough cleaning, Samsung recommends adding items within five minutes of starting the wash cycle.

I don't have any information on the future availability of other colors for the WF448. This model is currently available in Neat White and Stainless Platinum. The only models currently available in Tango Red are the WF328AAR and WF409ANR. If you'd like to find retailers in your area that may have these models available, you can click on the "Where to buy" button on the right side of the individual product home pages on Samsung.com.

Samsung's signature Vibration Reduction Technology™ (VRT™) makes our machines the ideal choice for upstairs installation. What is important is that the washing machine is level and set up properly on a sturdy floor, and that the pedestal is attached correctly, if you choose to use one. You may find that there is a small amount of vibration when the spin cycle starts, but as the spin speed increases, the VRT™ kicks in and vibration is virtually eliminated. For information on closet installation, please review page 9 of both the WF448 and DV448 User Manuals, which can be downloaded from this website.

Question

Is there a way to use the Delicates "tumble pattern" with Hot water?

Hi.

I've just purchased your washer/dryer set (WF448AAW washer) and the manual refers to the "Delicate" setting using a special delicate "tumble pattern" vs. the normal tumble pattern. I would like to be able to wash an item of clothing using the delicate tumble pattern but in Hot water, however, the Hot water option is not available with the Delicates setting, only cold and warm. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks.

Thanks for the question. Though there is no way to select hot water for the Delicate Cycle, it is possible to select SilverCare if your goal is to sanitize, eliminating 99.99% of odor-causing bacteria. If stain removal is your goal, and you need hot water to accomplish this, I would suggest using Normal or Quick Wash, or another hot water cycle, and reducing the spin speed to Low or even No Spin in order to preserve the delicate fabric. Thanks to the Diamond Drum in the WF448, the tumbling during the wash cycle itself does not put undue wear on fabrics; rather, the spin speed and water temperature will have the greatest impact on wearing fine fabrics.

For more information on which options are available for each cycle, please refer to the Cycle Chart in your User Manual (see image below).

I have a WF210 which is quite similar in construction, so here are the numbers for it. The door opens to about 135-140 degrees -- it's hard to tell exactly. The result is the concave window is completely clear of the round access port to the clothes within. That means the door when fully open is about 13.5 inches past the side of the unit. If the washer were installed right smack next to a wall, the door would open just past 90 degrees, maybe 95 and a part of the concave window on the door will block about 3 inches of the 14.5 inch round clothes port. The door is hinged on the left. If it were hinged on the right it would be a LOT more convenient for my laundry room layout, but that's not an option that I know of.

The WF448 can wash small loads very well. Loads that contain only a few items, or particularly heavy items (like rugs) may cause an imbalance resulting in the washer not spinning enough water out of the clothes. If this occurs, simply add a few items (like towels) to balance out the load.

Question

How do you reset a cycle to the preset options it came with from the factory?

The washer remembers any changes you make to a cycle and automatically uses them the next time the cycle is selected. Sometimes this is helpful such as if you always like an extra rinse with a particular cycle. With some cycles you may only want an extra rinse occasionally. The problem is that my machine is used by other family members who may not remember to check for and change back these options. I would like to reset a cycle to the original setting after I use it so the next person using the machine gets the original settings. How can I do this? I already tried unplugging the machine for a minute and it didn't reset the options.

It should not be necessary to reset the preset cycle settings. Your WF448AAW should default to the factory settings after each use unless the My Cycle feature is being used. I would suggest checking to see whether the My Cycle indicator light is illuminated, which would indicate that feature, which stores the last used options each time it's selected, is activated. To deactivate it, press the My Cycle button so the indicator light is no longer on. If My Cycle is not activated, and the Cycle selector does not automatically return to the default settings, then your machine may require service. I have the same issue as you have described with my WF448AAW washer. Any changes that are made to a cycle are set as the default settings when you select the same cycle for the next load. Example, if you select SilverCare with your Whites cycle, the next time you use the Whites cycle it will have SilverCare already selected. You have to turn it off manually. Once you do that and run a full cycle, the next time the option will not be defaulted.. After reading the response from MS. SAMSUNG, I contact support service to place a service call on my washer to have this fixed per the answer that was given and the manual. The next day the Samsung Product Support Specialist contacted me and told me that my washer was working as designed and that the washer will remember the settings that you choose for each cycle. There is no way to revert back to the default cycle settings. He suggested printing or making a copy of the manual and posting it beside the washer so that you may look at the default settings of each cycle.

We use HE 2X ultra TIDE in our Samsung wf448aaw front loader. TIDE has a 'dematologist tested' FREE version. FREE does not refer to cost but to the allergens / perfumes that made our son itch / break out in hives. This TIDE 2X ULTRA FREE (currently sold in white bottle with Green cap) is perfect for our son's sensitive skin and it works great to get the clothes clean.

With a little bit of ULTRA DOWNY HE April Fresh (which he is not allergic too), everything feels and smells cleaner than ever compared to our old top loader.

High Efficiency detergent is recommended because of it's concentrated cleaning abilities and low sudsing action. Regular, non-HE detergent, is not recommended because it will cause an over-sudsing condition. You could use less non-HE detergent to overcome the sudsing issue, but then your laundry will not come out as clean as it should. In addition, the use of non-HE detergent, or too much HE detergent, can lead to a number of issues, including leaks, error codes and prolonged wash times.

Question

How does Automatic Temperature Control work

I have heard that for cold water wash the water should be above 60 degrees. With my old top load I would add some hot water then switch to cold. Since I can not feel the water with the front load does the machine sense the water temperature and automatically add some hot water if the cold water is too cold? Or do I have to use a warm/warm setting which will really be a cold/cold becasue my cold water is so cold.

You're correct about the water temperature: the water should be at least 60°F for the detergent to dissolve. The WF448AAW, and other Samsung washers, automatically detects the water temperature, and will add enough hot water to raise the overall temperature to a minimum of 60°F, even when cold is selected.

THE WATER COMING FROM THE GROUND IN NEW YORK IS ABOUT 55 DEGREE'S YEAR ROUND UNLESS IT SITS IN THE PIPES OF YOUR HOUSE FOR AWHILE THEN IT RAISES UP BECAUSE OF INHOME TEMPERATURE. THE TEMPERATURE IS CONTROLED BY BASICALLY AN ELECTRONIC THERMOSTAT IN MACHINE. THEY MAKE COLD WATER DETERGENT THAT IS SPECIFIC TO USING COLD WATER IN WASH CYCLES. THIS WILL SAVE YOU ENERGY ON HAVING TO HEAT WATER IN YOUR WATER TANK AND USE. ALSO THE TEMPERATURE OF WATER ENTERING YOUR WASHER WILL BE WARMER THEN WHAT YOU FELL AT FAUCET BECAUSE IT IS FLOWING THROUGH THE WASHER WHICH IS WARMER THUS RAISING TEMPERATURE. A WAY TO TEST WATER TEMPERATURE IS START A LOAD AND LET IT FILL TO THE PROPER LEVEL WITH WATER THEN PAUSE WASH CYCLE, OPEN DOOR AND USE AN INFRARED TEMPERATURE GUN THAT WILL TELL YOU THE EXACT TEMPERATURE BEING USED.

The WF448AAW features Samsung's Vibration Reduction Technology (VRT) which significantly reduces noise and vibration due to the high spin speeds. In order for the VRT to be most effective, it's important for the washer to be installed properly, and a sturdy floor is a key factor. A rubber mat could help to provide some absorption of vibration, as long as the tile floor under it provides a sturdy base.

It probably would. However, we have it installed on a pedestal directly on our floor, which has linoleum tiles, and there is ZERO vibration and noise in the spin cycle. Just make sure the machine is level, whether on a pedestal or not.

Question

Is there something wrong if there is extreme vibration on this washer?

I just bought this today and started a load of laundry. In the spin cycle, it literally shook so hard that it moved around the room and put a hole in the wall. It looked like it was going to spin completely apart before I could hit the pause button. I am not sure how to fix this, or if this is going to need service!

answer 2
Thanks to Samsung's Vibration Reduction Technology (VRT), our washers, including the WF448, should not experience "extreme vibration". From your description, my first suggestion is to check whether the shipping bolts were removed during installation. Besides the removal of the shipping bolts, leveling the machine properly is also an important factor in enabling the VRT to be most effective. It's worth noting that a small amount of vibration during the initial stages of the spin cycle are normal, but should go away within a very short period of time.

Please review the installation instructions in the User Manual to determine whether they were followed properly. If you find that all of the set-up procedures were followed, and your WF448 still vibrates significantly, it may require service. If this is the case, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

I'm sorry to hear you have a musty odor in your WF448AAW. This odor is caused by bacteria that is introduced to the washing machine from the water supply, dirty laundry and other environmental factors, and can get trapped in soap residue on the outside of the drum and in the gaskets and dispenser. Besides the standard maintenance procedures recommended for most front load washers, which include running empty sanitize cycles with bleach, wiping down the gaskets and door between loads, cleaning the soap dispenser regularly, and leaving the door open between loads, it is very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent. In addition, Samsung has developed other options for treating this issue.

The WF448 is equipped with SilverCare, an option that can be added to most cycles simply by pressing the SilverCare button at the start of the cycle. SilverCare can be used in any temperature water and is safe for colors and delicates. This feature releases silver ions which are highly effective in eliminating 99.99% of bacteria.

To treat the odor that has already developed, I would suggest cleaning your washer thoroughly by wiping it down with a bleach solution, then adding SilverCare to your regular laundry routine moving forward - using it at least twice a week to remove the odor causing bacteria from both the washer and your clothes.

Thank you,

If you wash 1 load and let the washer sit for a day or two-here is where the problem starts. Pull the dispeanser out and dump the remaing water left in the dispeanser. You must clean the area where the dispeanser sits. I cleaned my with natural cleaner and a old toothbrush. I also wipe the inside rubber ring and the door everytime after a load is finished. I hang a towel over the door to aid in allowing air to flow through the empty tub. After doing all of this-no more musty smell. Hope this work for you.

Samsung's Vibration Reduction Technology™ (VRT™) significantly reduces noise and vibration, making our washing machines the ideal choice for upstairs installation, as long as the upstairs floors are of sturdy construction. Some older homes may have weaker flooring which may require some reinforcement.

The WF448AAW, and all other Samsung washers, are designed to use High Efficiency (HE) soap. The excessive suds created by using non-HE soap reduce cleaning performance and in some cases can damage the washer. I am not aware of an HE version of Oxiclean at this time, so I do not recommend this product for Samsung washers.

Since the drum tilts toward the rear of the washer, and the WF448AAW, like other front loaders, is designed to use a minimal amount of water, it is normal not to see much water when washing. To be sure the machine is using enough water, however, I would suggest clicking this link for information on checking the water level: http://tinyurl.com/23lo4oq

To activate My Cycle, press the My Cycle button, then select the cycle and options which you'd like to have saved as "your cycle" and press Start to start the cycle. After a cycle has been run on the settings saved within "My Cycle" mode, the next time you press the My Cycle button the saved settings should automatically come up. If this does not happen, please contact 800-SAMSUNG for assistance.

Question

I have the WF448 White. How much vibration is normal?

My unit is on a pedestal. I carefully leveled it. It slightly wobbles and vibrates as it speeds up to spin. Thank You, Dan

It is normal to have a small amount of vibration at the beginning of the spin cycle, up to about 400 RPM, but the vibration should lessen as the machine speeds up. Sometimes vibration can be lessened even more by "fine-tuning" the leveling - making additional adjustments while the machine is spinning. I would suggest running a Spin Only cycle with an empty drum and make small adjustments to the leg on whichever side appears to be "wobbling" the most. Continue to make these adjustments while the machine is spinning unti you are satisfied. Once you're happy with the adjustments, be sure to lock the legs by screwing the plastic leveling locks on each leg upward until they're tight. This should prevent the machine from becoming unlevel over time from vibration.
