Question

Should approximately 30% of soap distribution simply run down the inner face of the door instead of being sprayed onto the washload?

A significant portion of the soap dispensed into the washer is not sprayed onto the clothes. Approximately 30% runs down the inner face of the door due to an improper angle of the dispenser which is set into the door opening. This seems to affect how much soap is actually applied to the clothing. This does not occur when fabric softenner is dispensed. The fabric softener does not run down the inner door face. 100% of the fabric softener is sprayed onto the clothing. Should I request a service call?

Thank you for the question. Since the door actually angles toward the inside of the washer, the fact that some of the soap runs down the door is normal. If the detergent is dispensing prior to the start of the cycle, it's possible that a new siphoning detergent dispenser cup will help to resolve the issue. If this is the case, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

answer 1
The doors on the DV448 dryer can be reversed, but like most front load washing machines, the doors on the WF448 cannot. The preferred set up to easily move laundry from the washer to the dryer would place the washer on the left and the dryer on the right, so the doors would open out in opposite directions. If your dryer is stacked on top of the washer, you would probably want to have the doors open in the same direction. Instructions for reversing the door on your dryer can be found on page 19 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded through this link: http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/appliances/washers-dryers/dryers/DV219AGW/XAA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support
If you choose to stack the units, you'll also need to order the SK-5A stacking kit accessory, which is available at http://www.samsungparts.com or by calling 800-627-4368

The SilverCare kit in the WF448AAW lasts for 1000 cycles. To put this in perspective, if you select the SilverCare option for two loads each week, the silver plates will last nearly ten years; four times per week, and it would last five years. Samsung recommends using SilverCare at least once or twice a week to help keep the washdrum odor and mildew-free.

You can determine whether the part is ready to be replaced by pressing the SilverCare and Signal buttons simultaneously. LU1 indicates less than 1000 cycles of SilverCare have been used; when the code reads LU0, more than 1000 cycles have been run, and it's time to replace the part. Samsung recommends scheduling a service appointment to replace the part. You can contact Samsung for service by submitting an online service request through the link below or calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

Question

Pedestal Installation Question

We recently took delivery of the WF448AEP washer/dryer with the matching pedestals.

I read through the installation manual on Samsung’s web site for the pedestals and it states to place the units (washer or dryer) on it's side to properly install the pedestals.

I watched the delivery guys assemble each pedestal onto the units and they did not follow this procedure. They turned each unit upside down to install the pedestals.

I questioned the installers on this and told them per the pedestal installation instructions to properly install the pedestals the washer and dryer needed to be placed on their sides. They said "We turn them upside down all the time to install the pedestals".

My question is by turning the washer and dryer upside down to install the pedestals does this cause problems in the function of the washer and dryer

Thank you for your question and I appreciate your concern. Fortunately, as long as the shipping bolts are still in place, turning the unit upside down should not effect its ability to function properly. I would exercise caution in doing so, however, to prevent the possibility of physical damage, such as dents or scratches, to the lid.

answer 1
The rear of the DV448 extends past the rear of the WF448 by about 5" when stacked due to an overhang. This is what causes the total depth to increase from 31-1/4" to 35". The total height of the stacked units is 78"; the width of 27" would be uneffected by stacking. The washer and dryer cannot be stacked on top of the storage pedestal.

For additional information about clearance, location and venting requirements, please refer to the User Manual, which is downloadable as a pdf from this website.

I'm sorry to hear your drain hose is not long enough. The drain hose that comes factory installed on your washer is approximately 6' long, and can be extended (up to a maximum of 13') by purchasing another section of hose, then attaching it to the original hose by clamping them together with a steel sleeve. These parts can be purchased at most hardware or home improvement stores.

I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear you have an odor in your WF448AAP. This odor is caused by bacteria that is introduced to the washing machine from the water supply, dirty laundry and other environmental factors, and can get trapped in soap residue on the outside of the drum or in the gaskets and dispenser. Besides the standard maintenance procedures recommended for most front load washers, which include running empty sanitize cycles with bleach, wiping down the gaskets and door between loads, cleaning the soap dispenser regularly, and leaving the door open between loads, it is very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent. In addition, Samsung has developed another option for treating this issue.

The WF448 is equipped with SilverCare, an option that can be added to most cycles simply by pressing the SilverCare button at the start of the cycle. SilverCare can be used in any temperature water and is safe for colors and delicates. This feature releases silver ions which are highly effective in eliminating 99.99% of bacteria.

To treat the odor that has already developed, I would suggest cleaning your washer thoroughly by wiping it down with a bleach solution, then adding SilverCare to your regular laundry routine moving forward - using it at least twice a week to remove the odor causing bacteria from both the washer and your clothes.

Question

Does the internal water heater run on regular cycles?

It takes a long time for the hot water to reach the washing machine due to the location of the water heater. Since the washer uses so little water, the water never has a chance to get warm before it gets cut off. Does the Samsung WF448 use the internal water heater to make sure the water temperature of the load is actually warm or hot while it is washing?

Like most front loaders, the door on the WF448 opens from right to left and cannot be reversed to open from left to right because of the location of the door lock. The dryer doors, however, are reversible. Instructions to reverse the dryer door can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this website for your convenience.

Question

How is the water heated in the warm cycle on the WF448?

I am wondering how the water is heated when using the warm cycle with the WF448 washer. Does the washer take turns adding cold then hot water onto the clothes from the water lines to get a warm temperature? Or does it have a valve that lets in some hot and cold at the same time? I have had several items bleed on the warm cycle and I have not had clothes bleed in over 10 years. These are loads of all lights (primarily whites) with maybe some stripes or accent color. Same type of load I have washed on warm a thousand times with other washers and have never had a problem. It seems like some items maybe getting hit directly with hot water and sitting before the cold water mixes.

Thank you for the question. The WF448, like other Samsung washers, cycles the hot and cold water valves in order to achieve the goal temperatures, as follows: Cold = 60°F-85°F; Warm = 85°F-105°F; Hot = 105°F-125°F; Extra Hot/Sanitize cycle uses the internal water heater to boost the temperature to over 150°F, based on NSF standards. If you think the wash temperature is too hot, I would suggest checking your cold water valve to make sure it's turned on all the way, and clean the cold water inlet screens to be sure the proper amount of cold is able to enter the machine.

The four shipping bolts located in the back of the washing machine are silver (metal) with spacers (that are usually red) and must be removed prior to using the washing machine to allow the drum to spin properly. Excessive vibration and damage to the machine may occur if the washer is used with the shipping bolts installed.

I would suggest consulting with the installers, the user manual or the online troubleshooting guide regarding installation instructions, which should include removing the shipping bolts and leveling the washer before use.

I would suggest cycling the power to your WF448AAP washer by unplugging it for about a minute, or by turning the circuit breaker off then on again. The default setting for the Normal cycle should spin the load on High speed. The troubleshooting guide also includes some tips for addressing "no spin" issues that are the result of the washer not draining properly. Please click on the link below, then select "Troubleshooting ► Water Related ► Washer Doesnt Drain or Doesnt Spin At All": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

It's not unusual to have a small amount of water remaining in the detergent drawer at the end of the cycle. However, more than a small amount may indicate that the washer is not properly leveled, and is leaning forward somewhat. I would suggest using a carpenter's level to check both front to back and side to side leveling, ensuring that the bubble on the level is perfectly centered. Run a Spin Only cycle to determine if there is any vibration, then fine-tune the adjustment to ensure all four feet are firmly planted on the floor to minimize any vibration. Once the leveling is complete, be sure to screw the plastic leg locks into place as far up as they'll go so the legs don't become loose and change their position over time.

This should resolve the issue for you.

It is necessary for the WF448AAP to have power in order to unlock the door if it was locked when it lost power. Please try unplugging and replugging, or cycling the circuit breaker in your house. If the washer still won't power on, it will require service. You should be able to drain the excess water from the drum, however, through the drain tube located next to the debris filter behind the front access cover. Be sure to have a container available to drain the water into prior to removing the plug from the drain hose. Thank you for the question. In addition to cleaning the dispenser, other factors that could prevent the fabric softener from draining properly include leveling the washer and checking the inlet hose screens for clogs and debris. Please open the Troubleshooting Guide through the link below, then select "Operation ► Fabric Softener Does Not Dispense" for instructions: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

If these suggestions do not resolve the issue for you, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

Thank you,
