Question

Our new WF448APP/XAA washer is making some banging noises in the spin cycle which doesn't seem right for all the press on vibration reduction.

Is it already time to schedule a service call? We are just a 50/60 year old working couple and a lot of stuff goes to the drycleaners. This machine isn't dealing with very much work at this point.

I'm sorry to hear your WF448AAP is vibrating. Please make sure all four shipping bolts were removed, then I would suggest reviewing the instructions for leveling your washer in the Troubleshooting Guide: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Once properly leveled, you should not experience this banging noise any longer. If you do, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

I hope this helps to resolve your issue.

Thank you for the question. The WE357A7P and WE357A0P are both compatible with the DV448AEP dryer and WF448AAP washer. The WE357A0P has a new Quick Install system for attaching the pedestal to the washer and dryer; the WE357A7P comes with the necessary hardware to attach the laundry units to the pedestal. Both provide a sturdy, secure attachment and convenient storage.

Question

Low water pressure alarm

Hi,
I notice the low water pressure alarm question is coming up more often recently. Perhaps there is a batch of poorly set pressure sensor alarms out there ......
Here are our symptoms:
1) We purchased these around Nov.30, 2010
2) SInce then, the washer has stopped 6 to 8 times on a "low water pressure alarm" with a messsage to call the service tech.
3) It is odd that the alarm ALWAYS (without exception) has occurred at the final RINSE phase in the wash cycle and always at 11 minutes left in the overall wash cycle.
4) Simply pressing the start button clears the alarm and restarts the wash cycle to completion

The water pressure in our house is 60 PSI (regulator controlled), so I opened the regulator and checked the incoming screen. First time I checked this in seven years and it was still perfectly clean, but rather coarse mesh (just under a millimeter). It will keep rocks out of the system, but not much else, lol.

Next I took the hoses off the washer (hot and cold) and checked the finer inlet screens. Both were perfectly clean. However, I noticed that the orifice from the hose bib itself was only about 1/4 inch in diameter (ID). The hoses themselves are only about 1/2 inch OD. Could it be that Samsung has changed the hose size it is supplying with the washers, and the small orifice is causing the problem? I thought I read somewhere earlier in the site that the hoses were supposed to be 3/4 inch diameter (but that may have been referring to the drain...).

Also, unrelated question, but I noticed another reader had also asked how to start a second wash cycle without having to turn the power off and on. Any solution to that? It's minor, but it would be nice to just be able to start and select a second load.

Thank you for the detailed question! If your home's water pressure is within the recommended specification (which it is at 60 psi) and you've checked the water supply and inlet hose screens for blockage (which you have), then your washer will likely require service to determine why the low pressure sensors are triggering an error code. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Online service request form: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...

With regard to the second question, the washers are designed to turn off between loads. One press of the Power button will turn it back on so you can select the next cycle.

If your WF448 appears to be filling with the wrong temperature water, please check the following:
• Turn both faucets on fully.
• Make sure the temperature selection is correct.
• Make sure the hoses are connected to the correct faucets, and flush the water lines.
• Check the water heater. It should be set to deliver a minimum 120°F hot water at the tap. Also check the water heater capacity and recovery rate.
• Disconnect the hoses and clean the screens. The hose filter screens may be plugged.
• As your Washer is filling, the water temperature may change as the automatic temperature control feature checks incoming water temperature. This is normal.

If this does not resolve your issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can help determine whether your washer will require service.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. If your washer is detecting low water pressure, but your home's supplied pressure meets the recommended 20-116 psi, then I would suggest checking the inlet hose screens for clogs and the hoses themselves for bends or kinks that could obstruct the water flow. Also, make sure the water valves are turned on the whole way. If this does not resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

The recommended way to wash tennis shoes or sneakers is with a load of towels. When tennis shoes are washed seperately, they may create an unbalance condition. Washing the tennis shoes or sneakers with a load of towels will prevent the unbalance condition.

Thanks for the question. When installed and functioning correctly, the WF448 washer should be able to spin mixed loads, including towels, at even the highest spin speeds. While there may occasionally be a need to reposition items if there is a significant imbalance, this should not be the norm.

I would suggest following the link below to the Troubleshooting Guide, then selecting Operation ► Clothes Are Very Wet At The End Of The Wash Cycle / Will Not Spin At High Speeds: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

This article should help you determine what might be causing this issue. The most common cause is that it is not leveled properly, so I would suggest clicking through to that link from the article for further instructions.

If none of the solutions offered help to resolve the issue, there is also a link to request service at the bottom of the page.

I'm sorry to hear you have an odor in your WF448AAP. This odor is likely caused by bacteria that is introduced to the washing machine from the water supply, dirty laundry and other environmental factors, and can get trapped in soap residue on the outside of the drum and in the gaskets and dispenser. Besides the standard maintenance procedures recommended for most front load washers, which include running empty sanitize cycles with bleach, wiping down the gaskets and door between loads, cleaning the soap dispenser regularly, and leaving the door open between loads, it is very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent. In addition, Samsung has developed other options for treating this issue.

The WF448 is equipped with SilverCare, an option that can be added to most cycles simply by pressing the SilverCare button at the start of the cycle. SilverCare can be used in any temperature water and is safe for colors and delicates. This feature releases silver ions which are highly effective in eliminating 99.99% of bacteria.

To treat the odor that has already developed, I would suggest cleaning your washer thoroughly by wiping it down with a bleach solution, then adding SilverCare to your regular laundry routine moving forward - using it at least twice a week to remove the odor causing bacteria from both the washer and your clothes.

The WF448AAP, like many front load washers, does not have the option of manually setting the water level. This is part of the high-efficiency design. Though the water level cannot be set at a higher level, the WF448AAP does have Pre Wash, Extra Wash, Extra Rinse and Heavy Soil Level options and settings that may be helpful for washing diapers.

Thank you for the question. It's not unusual for water to not be visible, partially because of the low water use of this and other front load machines, and partially because of Samsung's drums being tilted toward the back. To determine whether the water is at the appropriate level in your machine, please click on the following link, then select "Operation" > "There is No Water Or Not Enough Water": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

This article also includes troubleshooting tips for addressing a low-water level.

If the softener is draining at the same time as the detergent it is possible you're adding too much fabric softener, or you may not have the upgraded dispenser cup inserted. Please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak to an agent who can help determine a solution.

Thank you for the question. While running a full load in the washer, which could include towels in addition to sheets and pillow cases, may help to reduce the "balling up" because items wouldn't have as much freedom to move around and get twisted, the physics in the dryer is very different from the washer. It is not unusual for sheets to twist and ball up in most washers. When removing items from the washing machine, I would suggest shaking them out to untangle and separate them before placing them in the dryer.

First, I would suggest consulting the Cycle Charts in both the washer and dryer manuals. The Quick Wash cycle in your WF448 is estimated to take only 38 minutes and the Normal wash, with no extra options, should take approximately 54 minutes. A typical dryer load should take approximately one hour, depending on the size of the load, the weight of the fabrics, the level of heat selected, and how much water was removed during the washer's spin cycle.

Please keep in mind that the times on the charts are estimates and can vary depending on water pressure, load size, whether the appropriate amount of HE detergent is used, and what options were selected. If your wash times are significantly different, it could be helpful to determine if the machine is leveled properly. If it is not, this could effect the washer's ability to spin properly as well, which would cause the cycle to take longer in both the washer and the dryer.

Here is a link to a brief video providing troubleshooting assistance including tips for leveling the washer: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...

I hope this helps!
