answer 2
The steam feature on a washer is good for tougher stain removal, helping to get stains like grass, grease and blood before they get set in to the fabric. Also you can skip alot of the pre-treating necessary for washers without the steam cycle. For the dryer, they're good for odor removal, as well as getting wrinkles out of items that are not easy to iron. You can save alot on dry cleaning bills with the steam cycle in a dryer.

answer 2
Good news: the WF419 will fit not only your queen-size comforter, but the sheets and pillowcases, as well.

Though Samsung does not make any specific claims about the ability of our washers to remove pet hair, we do have features which would seem to lend themselves to that goal. The steam feature in the WF419 helps to loosen the fibers in fabrics to release dirt and stains, and the debris filter can be accessed from the front of the machine for easy cleaning. Many people find that some time in the dryer removes most of what remains of pet hair after the wash. Many garments that can't take the heat of the dryer may still benefit from Air Fluff to remove pet hair and lint.

As the 2009 recipient of JD Power & Associates' Overall Customer Satisfaction Award for Washers, Samsung is considered by our customers to be a reliable brand.

Samsung recommends using only HE detergent because of it's concentrated cleaning abilities and low sudsing action. Regular, non-HE detergent is not recommended because it will cause an over-sudsing condition and can lead to a number of issues, including leaks, error codes and prolonged wash times.

Question

Can you turn off the ActivFresh option?

Is there a way to not use the ActivFresh? I read that running cold water over the silver strip will release the ions, so I don't understand how you can really turn it off if you don't want to use it. Would you please explain how the ActivFresh feature can be turned off? Thanks.

The ActiveFresh option is turned OFF by default. There is a button on the control panel that you must press to turn it on. If the light by the ActiveFresh button is lit then it is on. If the light is off then ActiveFresh is off.

answer 2
The ActivFresh option needs to be selected in order to be activated, since an electrical current is required to pass through the silver bars in order to release the ions into the water. If you do not wish to use this feature, then don't press the ActivFresh button on the control panel.

If you decide to use ActivFresh to help eliminate the bacteria that can cause odors in the drum or in your clothes, simply press the ActivFresh button.

I don't know about dry clean only, but I have washed 3 King Size (NOT at the same time) Goose Down comforters using the BEDDING setting and they come out great. The only thing I do extra is do a manual High Spin after the BEDDING cycle is finished. That way it spins out extra water since the BEDDING cycle will only allow for a slower spin.

answer 2
While many items that are dry cleanable can also be washed safely and effectively using steam cycles, Samsung does not recommend steam washing items that are marked Dry Clean Only. Please refer to fabric care symbols to help determine which items are, and are not, safe for steam cleaning. For example, items that have the "High", "Medium" or "Low" iron symbol on the label should be fine with steam; items that indicate "No Heat/Air", "No Steam Iron" or "Do Not Iron" probably should not be washed in the steam cycles. If you're still unsure, I would suggest checking with your dry cleaner or other fabric specialist.

Question

SIlverCare vs ActiveFresh

I have seen several questions about Silvercare and ActiveFresh here and the answer always seems to be a knid of pat company statement. (eg. "SilverCare provides cold water sanitization. ActiveFresh actively cleans and freshens clothes in cold water without bleach, keeping the washer’s interior fresh, as well.")
I would like to know if ActiveFresh uses silver IONS similar to silvercare. Also, Does ActiveFresh sanitize the washer as Silvercare does? If so, does it use the same process to do so? Are there other features and functions to Activefresh beyond what SIlvercare provides? I believe that Activefresh is just the new terminology for silvercare but I want to be sure.

I am considering the purchase of a new Samsung "419" washer and dryer. The silvercare features and how it keeps the mold and smell out of the unit is an important differentiator for me from the other brands I am considering.

The ActiveFresh is standard but you have the choice to turn this on/off. My research, before buying the 5000 series, indicated that the ActiveFresh/silvercare was not good for wells. I bought the 5000 series and then discovered by reading the manual that although standard, you as the consumer have the option to use or not to use. You'll love this washer - saves water, electricity and time!

Thank you for the question. Samsung's ActivFresh and SilverCare use the same silver ion technology and offer the same benefits. As you mentioned, these include keeping the drum and the clothes fresh-smelling in cold water without bleach. ActivFresh in the WF419 offers the same benefits as SilverCare in other models.

Samsung's rule of thumb is that a 4.0 cubic foot washer can fit a king size comforter or 23 standard 24" x 44" bath towels; while a 4.5 cubic foot washer can fit the king size comforter along with the accompanying sheets and pillow cases, or 28 standard bath towels. It's reasonable to assume then that 4.3 cubic foot capacity would fit a queen size comforter and sheet set, or 26 bath towels.

Not enough to justify replacing a 4 cu ft washer if this is the only reason you are considering a new washer. I replaced a 3.5 cu ft and I could tell a big difference in capacity, but that was just an added bonus to all the other features that led me to purchase this model.

Question

Where can this model be purchased in Maui, Hawaii?

We live on Maui and, since this is denoted as "New" in your literature, where can we purchase this washer and the companion dryer for stacking purposes in a condo here on Maui? Also, can this stackable washer/dryer combo (washer: WF419AAW, dryer: DV419AEW) be installed in a laundry closet with the depth measurement of 38 inches? It appears to us that adding the required front/back clearances and the appliance depths results in maximum 37-3/8", which would fit in a 38" space. Can you confirm?

The stacked depth of the WF419/DV419 pair is 35", and Samsung recommends a minimum of 4" of clearance behind the dryer to allow for sufficient air flow and venting. Though the WF419AAW does not have a pre-set program called "Whites", it does have all of the features needed for you to manually select the appropriate settings. Please see the Cycle Chart below, which can be found on page 28 of the User Manual, for available cycles and settings. Which one you choose really depends on the fabric. The high heat of the Sanitize cycle is great for getting whites really white, but not all fabrics can stand up to this high heat. I would suggest consulting the garment care tag to determine which cycle will work best for your needs.

Like most front-loaders, the door on the WF419AAW opens from right to left and cannot be reversed to open from left to right because of the location of the door lock. The dryer doors, however, are reversible. Instructions to reverse the dryer door can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this website, for your convenience.

Question

Why isn't the wash water hot when I select the HOT cycle for washing?

Without using the sanitizing cycle how can one get HOT water in the wash cycle. When I press HOT/COLD the wash water is tepid at best. I make sure the hot water is running hot from the tap, and the water heater is only 2 feet from the washer, however, I notice the washer fills with BOTH hot and cold water. How can I get a HOT water cycle without having to run a two-hour sanitized cycle? The washer is only two weeks old and it has been like this from the beginning. I was told by the repair man that all washers will only let the water get to a certain temperature but I was told the model I bought had an internal heater which heated the water. This was an important selling feature because we live in a northern tier climate and our cold water is extremely cold coming out of the tap. I have the 419. We set our water temperature in the water heater quite hot, above 120 degrees but it's not enough to offset the amount of cold water that fills in the tub when HOT is selected.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Regarding the internal water heater: there are two situations which will cause the heater that's built into the WF419 to turn on. One is when the Sanitize Cycle is selected; the other is when the tap water is below 60°F, the minimum temperature necessary for detergent to be most effective. If the temperature sensor detects the water temperature to be lower than 60°F, the heater will heat the water so it's above that threshold.

Next, regarding the issue you're experiencing with the water temperature: there are a few items I would suggest you check before requesting service on your new machine, including removing the hot water hose from the back of the machine and checking to see if hot water is, in fact, coming out of the correct hose. Please click on this link to review some of the other troubleshooting tips: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...

If, after checking each of these items, you're certain that the wrong temperature water is being released into the washer, and it is not a result of the connections, please contact Samsung to request service. You may request service by either calling 800-SAMSUNG, or by submitting an online service request through this link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/o...
