Question

We purchased a Samsung Silver Care front load washer about four years ago and it started making a humming sound and not spinning during a load today.

If you turn on the Washer and select a cycle it does not turn and hums and you smell a hot smell. Is there something specific we should be able to check to determine the issue?

Thank you for the question. The WF316 model was produced before the "lint trap" or debris filter was added as a feature that customers could clean on their own. If you are having issues with your washer draining or spinning, please check the following:
• Check the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.
• Straighten the drain hoses. Eliminate kinked hoses. If there is a drain restriction, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak to an agent who can assist you further.

Question

How can you unlock the door?

The door on the washer is locked and will not unlock. There is no standing water. I have tested the water valve, motor and Drain pump.. all seem to be working, but the Door lock/unlock test will not work.

If the door is locked and the WF316 is not in the middle of a Sanitize cycle, try pressing the Start/Pause button to disengage the lock. If it won't unlock, try shutting the power off, then cycling the power to the machine by unplugging it for 30 seconds then plugging it back in or turning the circuit breaker off then on again. If the door still won't open, your washer will require service. Thanks for the question. The WF316LAW does not have a debris filter. Some humming and buzzing is normal just before the spin cycle starts due to the operation of the drain pump.
