Questions & Answers for samsung 4.0 cu. ft. Washer

Question

How to put top piece back on

I took off the top piece of the washer so I could go in and fix something. I was able to fix what I wanted to. I tried to put back the top piece but I can't get it on how it originally was. I thought that would be the easiest part, but turns out, for me it's not. I need some assistance on how to get this top piece back on correctly. I have tried but there's a big gap on each side and it definitely doesn't look right. Our washers warranty ran out this month. Can anyone help or show me how via pics/video? I uploaded a pic of the top piece off.

Thank you for the question. To reinstall the lid to the washer, please try the following:
- Pull the washer out from the wall.
- Align the front edge of the lid over the rear of the washer and slide the lid forward gently but firmly so the inside edges of the lid's sides are in contact with the outer edges of the washer, being careful not to scratch the lid or the washer in the process.
- The front indented edge of the lid should be able to slide securely under the front rim of the washer, and the screwholes on the back edge of the lid should closely align with the screw holes on the back of the washer. It may be necessary to apply some pressure during this final step so it does fit securely in place.

The key is to have the lid slide from rear to front, rather than trying to drop it into place from above the washer. I hope this helps you to reinstall the lid properly. If not, please resubmit as a new question.

Thank you for the question. There is no way to manually adjust the wash cycle times on the WF218 washer. I would suggest you refer to the Cycle Chart on page 25 of the User Manual, and select a cycle that best suits your needs. The Delicate cycle, for example, is the shortest wash cycle at an estimated 41 minutes. Keep in mind that these times are estimates, and can vary depending on the supplied water pressure and temperature, type or amount of detergent used, and additional options selected.

Is it normal for a washer to have some water in the gaps of a door seal? What can I do for this not to happen anymore?

It's not unusual to have a small amount of water remaining in the door seal at the end of the cycle. However, more than a small amount may indicate that the washer is not properly leveled, and is leaning forward somewhat. I would suggest using a carpenter's level to check both front to back and side to side leveling, ensuring that the bubble on the level is perfectly centered. Run a Spin Only cycle to determine if there is any vibration, then fine-tune the adjustment to ensure all four feet are firmly planted on the floor to minimize any vibration. Once the leveling is complete, be sure to screw the plastic leg locks into place as far up as they'll go so the legs don't become loose and change their position over time.

I would also suggest practicing standard maintenance procedures, including running bleach and hot water at least once a month, wiping the gaskets, door seal and doors, and cleaning the debris filter periodically.

Question

how do you remove the drain plug

I've tried and tried to remove the drain plug cap so I can clean the filter but it doesn't seem to want to move. THe manual diagrams aren't clear--can you please send some photos or something? Can I grip the rubber tube with pliers to twist the cap loose?

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty removing the cap from the debris filter drain hose of your WF218ANW. The cap is not threaded, but it does have to fit snuggly into the end of the rubber hose to be effective. It should be able to pull right off with a little effort. I would not recommend using pliers to hold the rubber tube because this could cause it to tear. Instead, I would suggest holding the rubber tube firmly with one hand, perhaps even using a rubber "gripper" that you might use to open bottles or jars, and try to "shimmy" the cap off using the other hand.

The images and videos that are currently available do not show the actual removal of the cap in detail. Therefore, if the description above does not help in removing the cap, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to try to assist you further.

Question

Top cover of washer cont.

Thank you for the response. It did help, but only for the left side. I got that side able to slide in but the right side doesn't seal like it use to for some reason. I tried pushing it in harder like I did for the left side, but it doesn't budge. I've tried multiple things to push it in and looked to see what could be the issue and I cannot figure it out. I uploaded 2 pictures. One picture is the right side angle of the washer where you can tell there's a slight gap and then the 2nd picture is the right side angle of our dryer which you can tell has a tighter connection. This might sound silly, but is there anyway I might can get someone to come out and fix it? and if so - how much will it cost or if anything at all? Thank you again. I do appreciate it.

I'm glad you were able to get the left side back in, and it looks like the right side is aligned correctly and close to being pushed in all the way. If you aren't able to slide it in any further after trying different methods, I don't know that a service technician would be able to either. If you would like to explore the option, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can help answer your questions with regard to scheduling service.

Odor-causing bacteria can be introduced to the washer from the home's water supply, the dirty laundry, and other environmental factors, so it is important to follow some basic maintenance procedures to help reduce or avoid odors altogether.

The WF218 is equipped with an internal water heater, so I would suggest running a Sanitize cycle with bleach and no clothes at least once a month. Wiping down the door and gaskets and washing out the detergent drawer with warm water periodically can help as well. It is also very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent to help prevent oversudsing which can lead to odor because the suds can leave residue on the drum which traps bacteria. Samsung also recommends cleaning the debris filter, which is accessible through the panel on the lower right front of the washer. Instructions can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.

Question

New spots on clothes after they are washed and dryed.

I have been noticing spots on my clothes after they are done washing and drying. They look like water spots, yet the fabric is completly dried, and they stay on the fabric. The spots are not there before I wash my clothes. I have tried everything from using no fabric softner, less soap, I have cleaned the washing machine with the tide cleaner, I have ran cycles with no clothes, just water and bleach. I even had a tech out here and they have no idea what is wrong. I have been able to get the spots out of the clothes by hand washing them with bar soap and soaking in vinegar. PLEASE let me know if there is a fix to this problem. I hate having to wash my clothes multiple times before they get cleaned.

Samsung recommends cleaning the debris filter approximately once a month, though you can certainly clean it more frequently if you feel it's necessary. Odor-causing bacteria can be introduced to the washer from the home's water supply, the dirty laundry, and other environmental factors, so cleaning the debris filter alone may not be enough to control odors.

I hope these suggestions help you to control the odors in the debris filter as well as in other parts of the washer.

Like most front load washers, the door on the WF218ANW opens from right to left and cannot be reversed to open from left to right because of the location of the door lock. The dryer doors, however, are reversible. Instructions to reverse the dryer door can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this website for your convenience.

It's not unusual for the washer to make some noise while filling as it cycles the hot and cold water valves as needed to reach the desired temperature. Samsung recommends using the hoses that come with the washer to ensure proper water flow. Please try installing the supplied hoses, and check the inlet filter screens on the back of the washer for blockage, as well. Once reconnected, make sure the water valves are turned on all the way. It may also help to check your home's water pressure to ensure it is within the recommended 20-116 psi.
