Question

What does the "FL" code mean when it's displayed on my washer?

I found my washer had stopped running mid-cycle and showed "FL" on the front display. None of the buttons were responsive except for the power button. I turned the machine off, then back on and was able to start a new cycle.

The "FL" code indicates that the WF218ANW failed to lock the door, which would prevent the machine from running. If this happens again, close the door tightly and restart the cycle. If the code reappears, your washer may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

It looks like the clothes are hardly wet during the wash cycle, is this normal?

I purchased an effiiency front loading washer, and I understand it is water effiicient, but I hardly see any water during the wash cycle. Not even an inch worth as it tosses the clothes around. It looks like the clothes are barely wet. You cannot see any soap suds either. Is this normal?

LIke most front load washers, Samsung's WF218 is designed to wash clothes by rotating them through a small amount of water, rather than submerging them. In addition, our drums are tilted back to allow for the door to be opened to add forgotten garments early in the cycle, so it is not unusual to see only a small amount of water, if any, at the front of the drum. The visibility of suds can vary by the type and amount of detergent used, and the fact that suds were not very visible to you may be an indication that you are using the appropriate amount of low-sudsing HE (High Efficiency) detergent.

I've attached two photos below, one depicting the approximate amount of water that you should see in the drum during the initial fill, and another showing the amount of water that should be in the drum later in the operating cycle. I would suggest running a Quick Wash cycle to determine whether your washer is filling appropriately by checking the fill levels against these photos.

If you find that your washer is not filling as much as what's depicted in the photos, please check the following:
1) Is your water pressure at the recommended 20-120 psi, and are the valves to the washer turned on all the way?
2) Remove and check both hot and cold water inlet screens for clogs.
3) Be sure the machine is properly leveled both front to back and side to side.

Thank you for the question,

Sometimes Samsung washing machines which had been very quiet may start to vibrate because the leveling legs have changed position. This can happen if the plastic leg locks were not screwed up tight when the machine was originally leveled. If this is the case, you should re-level the machine, then be sure to secure the leg locks by screwing them up as far as possible.

For instructions on properly leveling the washer, as well as other Troubleshooting Tips, please visit the link below, then select Installation > Installation Procedure > STEP 5 Leveling: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Question

RE: Samsung Washer & Dryer repair

I have a Samsung washer and dryer set - models WF218ANW/KAA and DV218AEW/XAA. I have ordered and received safety glass front covers for both and noted a hook design on the perimeter of both, indicating the appropriate twist would remove them from the doors. However, in attempting to twist them, the existing doors seem to be held in place by some sort of release mechanism. How do I release them without taking the doors apart?

The plastic covers are designed to stay in place securely, and there is no release mechanism to enable them to be removed more easily. If you are not able to remove the plastic covers by twisting them, then disassembling the door will be necessary.

WASHER RATTLES DURING SPIN CYCLE

Answer this Question

I'm sorry to hear your WF218 washer is "rattling" during the spin cycle. First, please make sure all four shipping bolts were removed from the back of the washer during installation. The shipping bolts hold the drum in place during shipping, but must be removed prior to using the machine.

Assuming the bolts were removed, the most likely cause of the rattling is that the washer is not completely leveled and sitting firmly on all four legs. Please follow this link, then select "Installation" >
Installation Procedure" > "STEP 5 Leveling" for the online instructions for properly leveling the machine: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Once the leveling is complete, be sure to lock the legs in place by screwing the plastic rings (leg locks) as far up as they'll go. This will help keep the legs from changing position over time due to even minimal vibration.

Finally, make sure there are no objects coming in contact with the washer once it is in place. Anything touching the machine, including racks, hoses or a neighboring dryer, could make a rattling sound during the spin cycle.

Question

What are the potential causes of the washer smelling really sour?

I have used the washing maching "wash" products, but it is really bad right now. I have left the door open, I haven't had this occur previously. Looking for recommendations. Additionally, lately the machine has been vibrating excessively. It is almost walking across the hardwood floors. Not sure if the two are related.

I'm sorry to hear you're having these issues. While improper leveling can contribute to odors in the washer, since it can prevent the washer from draining completely, it is more likely that there are multiple solutions to these two issues.

Odor in the washer is caused by bacteria that comes from the home's water supply, the dirty laundry, and other environmental factors. There are several basic maintenance procedures (including but not limited to leaving the door open) that can help reduce or even eliminate odors altogether. The WF218ANW is equipped with an internal water heater, so I would suggest running a Sanitize cycle with bleach and no clothes at least once a month. Wiping down the door and gaskets and washing out the detergent drawer with warm water periodically can help as well. It is also very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent to help prevent oversudsing which can lead to odor because the suds can leave residue on the drum which traps bacteria. Samsung also recommends cleaning the debris filter, which is accessible through the panel on the lower right front of the washer, at least once a month. Instructions can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.

The excessive vibration is most likely caused by the washer being unlevel. If the leveling legs were not locked into place when the machine was first installed, it may have been level to start with, but even minimal vibration can cause the legs to change their position over time. Please follow this link, then click on "Operation" > "Washer Vibrations" for instructions on how to properly level the washer along with other troubleshooting tips: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

I would need additional information in order to answer your question directly. What I can tell you is that the WF218 measures 31.1" deep with the door closed; and 51.18" with the door open 90°. See the image below for additional unit dimensions.

For closet and alcove installation, Samsung recommends leaving 4" to the rear, and 2" to the front of the closet. See the other image below for minimum clearances for alcove and closet installation.

My guess is your available depth will not be enough to fit the WF218, since you'll likely need more than 2" behind the unit for the hoses and connections, as well as some space in front.

Thanks for considering Samsung!

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your WF218 washer. The "dc" error code indicates an unbalanced load is preventing your washer from spinning properly. Try redistributing the load, then press the Start/Pause button. If the load appears well-distributed, you may need to make adjustments to the leveling legs to make sure the washer is properly leveled, removing the clothes and running a spin only cycle to make the necessary adjustments. Once firmly leveled, be sure the plastic leg locks are tightened to prevent them from vibrating loose. If this does not resolve the issue for you, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Please try unplugging both the washer and dryer, resetting the circuit breaker, then plugging the washer into the outlet that the working dryer had been plugged into (I'm assuming you have a gas dryer that was plugged into a standard 120V outlet).

If the washer still won't power on, it will likely require service. Please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

I'm sorry to hear your daughter is having an issue with the door lock on her WF218 washer. The door lock mechanism should not engage when the door is open, so if this is the case then it is likely her washer requires service. First, try cycling the power to the machine by unplugging the washer for several seconds, then replugging it and turning the power on. If the washer does not reset itself, I would suggest calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist her further.

Question

Softener Compartment Not Dispensing

The washer softener compartment has stopped emptying normally after working fine for months.
I've checked to make sure the washer is level, have made sure the slide-out soap / softener / bleach dispenser is unclogged and clean, and have run a bleach / sterilize wash. If I manually stop the washer at the beginning of the rinse cycle, and add extra water to the softener cup (filling it up to the rim), it will empty. I think this means this washer isn't getting water into the cup but am not sure whether there's anything I can do about that? Is there anything else I can do or check before calling a repair service? Thanks.

Question

Top cover of washer cont.

Thank you for the response. It did help, but only for the left side. I got that side able to slide in but the right side doesn't seal like it use to for some reason. I tried pushing it in harder like I did for the left side, but it doesn't budge. I've tried multiple things to push it in and looked to see what could be the issue and I cannot figure it out. I uploaded 2 pictures. One picture is the right side angle of the washer where you can tell there's a slight gap and then the 2nd picture is the right side angle of our dryer which you can tell has a tighter connection. This might sound silly, but is there anyway I might can get someone to come out and fix it? and if so - how much will it cost or if anything at all? Thank you again. I do appreciate it.

I'm glad you were able to get the left side back in, and it looks like the right side is aligned correctly and close to being pushed in all the way. If you aren't able to slide it in any further after trying different methods, I don't know that a service technician would be able to either. It is also very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent to help prevent oversudsing which can lead to odor because the suds can leave residue on the drum which traps bacteria. Samsung also recommends cleaning the debris filter, which is accessible through the panel on the lower right front of the washer. Instructions can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.
