Question

Softener Compartment Not Dispensing

The washer softener compartment has stopped emptying normally after working fine for months.
I've checked to make sure the washer is level, have made sure the slide-out soap / softener / bleach dispenser is unclogged and clean, and have run a bleach / sterilize wash. If I manually stop the washer at the beginning of the rinse cycle, and add extra water to the softener cup (filling it up to the rim), it will empty. I think this means this washer isn't getting water into the cup but am not sure whether there's anything I can do about that? Is there anything else I can do or check before calling a repair service? Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. In addition to the troubleshooting efforts you've already made, I would suggest checking the inlet hoses and screens to rule out blockage of the water entering the washer. The following link has an article to walk you through this procedure - after clicking on the link, select "Operation" then "Fabric Softener Does Not Dispense" for instructions and pictures.

If this does not resolve the issue, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent for further assistance.

The 4.0 capacity WF218 can fit 23 standard size (24" x 44") bath towels or a king-size comforter. Expressing the capacity in terms of pairs of jeans or shirts is not reliable or accurate since those items are not as easily "standardized".

Question

What does the "FL" code mean when it's displayed on my washer?

I found my washer had stopped running mid-cycle and showed "FL" on the front display. None of the buttons were responsive except for the power button. I turned the machine off, then back on and was able to start a new cycle.

The "FL" code indicates that the WF218ANW failed to lock the door, which would prevent the machine from running. If this happens again, close the door tightly and restart the cycle. If the code reappears, your washer may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

It looks like the clothes are hardly wet during the wash cycle, is this normal?

I purchased an effiiency front loading washer, and I understand it is water effiicient, but I hardly see any water during the wash cycle. Not even an inch worth as it tosses the clothes around. It looks like the clothes are barely wet. You cannot see any soap suds either. Is this normal?

LIke most front load washers, Samsung's WF218 is designed to wash clothes by rotating them through a small amount of water, rather than submerging them. In addition, our drums are tilted back to allow for the door to be opened to add forgotten garments early in the cycle, so it is not unusual to see only a small amount of water, if any, at the front of the drum. The visibility of suds can vary by the type and amount of detergent used, and the fact that suds were not very visible to you may be an indication that you are using the appropriate amount of low-sudsing HE (High Efficiency) detergent.

I've attached two photos below, one depicting the approximate amount of water that you should see in the drum during the initial fill, and another showing the amount of water that should be in the drum later in the operating cycle. I would suggest running a Quick Wash cycle to determine whether your washer is filling appropriately by checking the fill levels against these photos.

If you find that your washer is not filling as much as what's depicted in the photos, please check the following:
1) Is your water pressure at the recommended 20-120 psi, and are the valves to the washer turned on all the way?
2) Remove and check both hot and cold water inlet screens for clogs.
3) Be sure the machine is properly leveled both front to back and side to side.

The Sanitize Cycle helps to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria, including those that can cause odor. Please keep in mind that this cycle works using very high temperatures which are not appropriate for all fabrics. If your gym clothes are made of fabrics that should not be washed in hot water and/or bleach, you might want to consider another Samsung model that has SilverCare or ActivFresh. These are two names for the same thing - a feature that helps eliminate odors from both the clothes and the washer without using hot water and bleach. Current models to consider include the WF328, WF419 and WF448.

Thanks for considering Samsung!

Sometimes Samsung washing machines which had been very quiet may start to vibrate because the leveling legs have changed position. This can happen if the plastic leg locks were not screwed up tight when the machine was originally leveled. If this is the case, you should re-level the machine, then be sure to secure the leg locks by screwing them up as far as possible.

For instructions on properly leveling the washer, as well as other Troubleshooting Tips, please visit the link below, then select Installation > Installation Procedure > STEP 5 Leveling: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

The life expectancy of any appliance is difficult to predict, and there are many factors which can impact its longevity. What I can tell you is that the manufacturer's warranty on the WF218ANW includes the following:
- One year parts and labor
- Two years on the control board
- Three years on the stainless steel tub
- Five years on the motor.

More details about the warranty can be found on this website or on page 26 of the User Manual.

Question

RE: Samsung Washer & Dryer repair

I have a Samsung washer and dryer set - models WF218ANW/KAA and DV218AEW/XAA. I have ordered and received safety glass front covers for both and noted a hook design on the perimeter of both, indicating the appropriate twist would remove them from the doors. However, in attempting to twist them, the existing doors seem to be held in place by some sort of release mechanism. How do I release them without taking the doors apart?

The plastic covers are designed to stay in place securely, and there is no release mechanism to enable them to be removed more easily. If you are not able to remove the plastic covers by twisting them, then disassembling the door will be necessary.

Question

What is the water usage of this unit (in gpm)?

I already own this unit, and I really love it. Our water heater just died on us, and we are looking at buying a tankless water heater instead of a traditional tank model. I realize that high-efficiency washers can sometimes draw so little water that these tankless water heaters will not properly heat the water (Tankless water heaters will heat water only when the water flow is above a certain flow rate), so I want to know the water flow of the WF218ANW washer before I decide on which style of water heater is right for us. I have been unable to find the water flow rate in the product specifications.

Could you please provide me with the water flow that the WF218ANW draws in gallons per minute? If there are multiple possible flow rates, please include the minimum.

Thank you!

Samsung's specifications are based on water pressure in terms of pounds per square inch (psi). To correctly fill your washer in the proper amount of time, water pressure of 20 – 120 psi is required. Water pressure less than 20 psi may cause water valve failure, or may not allow the water valve to shut off completely, or it may extend the fill time beyond what your washer controls allow, resulting in your washer turning off.

The quantity of water used by Samsung washers ranges from 13-15 gallons of water per cycle, depending on the size and weight of the load, as well as which options are selected. For more information, you could refer to the User Manual, which can be downloaded by following this link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/d...

I'm sorry to hear you're have this issue with your WF218ANW. The sound of the pump can be audible while the washer is draining, but if it's gotten louder after over a year of use it may need to be cleaned or serviced. I would suggest first cleaning the debris filter by following the instructions available through the following link: http://tinyurl.com/2f4hvwf

If the noise persists, then you may need to request service to have the drain and pump checked. You may either contact your retailer or Samsung to determine your service options by calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The "nd" error code may indicate that your washer is not draining, or that the unit
senses a small clog while draining.

When this happens, turn off the unit and turn it on again; select the Spin Only cycle; press the Start/Pause button to drain the water. Next, try cleaning the debris filter to determine if this is the source of the clog. Instructions can be found on page 17 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded from this website for your convenience. You can also click the following link to open the Troubleshooting Guide, then select Error Codes > The Display Reads "Nd" for instructions: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...
