Washer and Dryer into Storage?

I am having to put my washer and dryer into storage in Michigan for the winter. Should I be concerned with water damage if it were to freeze? Is there a way to ensure that the machine is completely drained? Thank you!

Please see the following recommendations for storing your washer, as found on page 16 of the User Manual; the fourth bullet specifically addresses the question of freezing:

• Select the Quick Wash cycle and add bleach to the automatic dispenser. Run your Washer through the cycle without a load.
• Turn the water faucets off and disconnect the inlet hoses.
• Unplug your Washer from the electrical outlet and leave your Washer door open to let air circulate inside the tumbler.
• If your Washer has been stored in below–freezing temperatures, allow time for any leftover water in your Washer to thaw out before use.

Your WF218 should flush water through the soap dispenser drawer, which is how the detergent is diluted prior to being released into the drum, but it should not leak out of the drawer if it is closed fully. Please check to make sure the machine is level front to back by placing a carpenter's level on the top of the washer. If the machine is leaning forward, it's possible the water is not draining from the drawer into the drum as it should. Next, make sure there is not blockage or obstruction in the drawer that could prevent the water from flushing through. Remove the drawer and rinse it thoroughly with warm water to remove any soap residue or clots.

If these suggestions do not resolve the issue for you, please call 800-SAMSUNG or use the Live Chat button on the product support page to contact an agent who can assist you further.

WASHER RATTLES DURING SPIN CYCLE

I'm sorry to hear your WF218 washer is "rattling" during the spin cycle. First, please make sure all four shipping bolts were removed from the back of the washer during installation. The shipping bolts hold the drum in place during shipping, but must be removed prior to using the machine.

Assuming the bolts were removed, the most likely cause of the rattling is that the washer is not completely leveled and sitting firmly on all four legs. Please follow this link, then select "Installation" >
Installation Procedure" > "STEP 5 Leveling" for the online instructions for properly leveling the machine: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Once the leveling is complete, be sure to lock the legs in place by screwing the plastic rings (leg locks) as far up as they'll go. This will help keep the legs from changing position over time due to even minimal vibration.

Finally, make sure there are no objects coming in contact with the washer once it is in place. Anything touching the machine, including racks, hoses or a neighboring dryer, could make a rattling sound during the spin cycle.

Question

What are the potential causes of the washer smelling really sour?

I have used the washing maching "wash" products, but it is really bad right now. I have left the door open, I haven't had this occur previously. Looking for recommendations. Additionally, lately the machine has been vibrating excessively. It is almost walking across the hardwood floors. Not sure if the two are related.

I'm sorry to hear you're having these issues. While improper leveling can contribute to odors in the washer, since it can prevent the washer from draining completely, it is more likely that there are multiple solutions to these two issues.

Odor in the washer is caused by bacteria that comes from the home's water supply, the dirty laundry, and other environmental factors. There are several basic maintenance procedures (including but not limited to leaving the door open) that can help reduce or even eliminate odors altogether. The WF218ANW is equipped with an internal water heater, so I would suggest running a Sanitize cycle with bleach and no clothes at least once a month. Wiping down the door and gaskets and washing out the detergent drawer with warm water periodically can help as well. It is also very important to use only the recommended amount of HE detergent to help prevent oversudsing which can lead to odor because the suds can leave residue on the drum which traps bacteria. Samsung also recommends cleaning the debris filter, which is accessible through the panel on the lower right front of the washer, at least once a month. Instructions can be found in the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.

The excessive vibration is most likely caused by the washer being unlevel. If the leveling legs were not locked into place when the machine was first installed, it may have been level to start with, but even minimal vibration can cause the legs to change their position over time. Please follow this link, then click on "Operation" > "Washer Vibrations" for instructions on how to properly level the washer along with other troubleshooting tips: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your WF218 washer. The "dc" error code indicates an unbalanced load is preventing your washer from spinning properly. Try redistributing the load, then press the Start/Pause button. If the load appears well-distributed, you may need to make adjustments to the leveling legs to make sure the washer is properly leveled, removing the clothes and running a spin only cycle to make the necessary adjustments. Once firmly leveled, be sure the plastic leg locks are tightened to prevent them from vibrating loose. If this does not resolve the issue for you, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

I'm sorry to hear your WF218 washer has an 'nd' error code displayed. This is an indication that your washer is either not draining properly, or it is detecting a clog. Before calling for service:
- turn off the unit, then turn it on again;
- select the Spin Only cycle;
- press the Start/Pause button to drain the water;
- clean the debris filter, accessible through the small door on the lower front right of the washer.

If the washer still won't drain or spin, it will require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

It's not unusual for the washer to make some noise while filling as it cycles the hot and cold water valves as needed to reach the desired temperature. Samsung recommends using the hoses that come with the washer to ensure proper water flow. Please try installing the supplied hoses, and check the inlet filter screens on the back of the washer for blockage, as well. Once reconnected, make sure the water valves are turned on all the way. It may also help to check your home's water pressure to ensure it is within the recommended 20-116 psi.
