Sound to Indicate Wash is complete

Is there anyway to increase the level of the sound that indicated the wash is complete. We cannot hear our washer with the door to the wash room closed. We do not even know if it has a buzzer or horn to tell you when it is complete.

The WA5471ABW does have an End of Cycle Signal which can be turned on or off by pressing the Signal button on the control panel. There is no volume adjustment, however.

I would say this is a program default to the mother board of the washer and cannot be changed,. It is hard to please everyone so this a sound level not to loud and not to soft. You might want to check on the board where it will let you know how much time the cycle is programed for the particular cycle and use a small inexpensive timer you can take with you when you start your wash load. Found this to be very helpful during my multitasking days.

If the fabric softener remains in the dispenser at the end of the wash cycle, it is likely that either:
- the dispenser drawer or siphon cup is clogged;
- the washer is not level.

Try removing the drawer or siphon insert and rinsing it thoroughly with warm water to remove all detergent residue. To ensure your washer is leveled properly, please click on this link to view a short how-to video: http://support-us.samsung.com/spsn/...

If the problem still persists, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further and schedule service if necessary.

Question

How can I avoid my clothes from ALWAYS coming out extremely wrinkled from my WA5471AB washer?

I have tried different spin cycles. The low spin cycle doesn't help a lot. My clothes are always very very wrinkled and twisted up even on small loads.

High efficiency washers like the WA5471 are designed to extract the maximum amount of water from the clothes, enabling them to spend less time in the dryer. This is one of the features that maximizes the overall efficiency. Besides the spin speed, another factor that can cause wrinkling is overloading the washer. Therefore, if reducing the spin speed doesn't resolve the issue, it may help to wash fewer items in a load.

Question

Can you/should you use Affresh when running Pure Cycle?

The instructions from Samsung state that the Pure Cycle doesn't require a cleanser, but that you can use Affresh tablets by following the directions on the Affresh package. The package says, "Add 1 tablet to washer once a month using a 'Normal' cycle...for washers with a 'Clean Washer' cycle, add 1 tablet to the washer and run the cycle." Should I only use Affresh on the normal cycle - will adding an Affresh to the Pure Cycle damage the washer?

I would not use Affresh when running Pure Cycle. Does a person use cleaning product when cleaning a self cleaning oven?
This cycle has been created to clean the machine and the way technology is nowadays I would rely on the product cycle.,
Page 19 of the User Manual. "Pure Cycle is a self-cleaning cycle that removes mold that may occur inside the washing machine.
1. Press the Power button.
2. Press the Pure Cycle button.
• Once the Pure Cycle button is pressed, the only
function that can be set is Delay Start.
3. Press the Start/Pause button.
• If you press the Start/Pause button, Pure Cycle begins.
• Using Pure Cycle, you can clean the drum without using a cleansing agent.
• Never use Pure Cycle when laundry is in the washing machine. This may cause damage to the laundry or a problem with the washing machine.
The Pure Cycle Auto Indicator Function
• If the “Pure Cycle” button is lit after a wash, it indicates that tub (drum) cleaning is required. In this case, remove the laundry from the washing machine, turn the power on, and clean the drum by running Pure Cycle.
• If you do not run Pure Cycle, the “Pure Cycle” indicator
turns off. However, the “Pure Cycle” indicator will light again after two washes. Not running Pure Cycle at this point will not cause a problem with the washing machine.
• Although the Pure Cycle Auto Indicator appears once a month or so, the frequency may differ depending on the number of times the washing machine is used."

I'm sorry to hear you have stains on your white clothes. It's important to use only HE detergents; using non-HE formulations can cause whites to look dingy due to oversudsing since the detergent may not be able to rinse completely. In addition, please be sure not to overfill the detergent dispenser compartments. If you over fill either one of the compartments, the detergent or fabric softener will immediately dispense into the wash tub, undiluted, and onto your clothes. Detergents concentrated to 2x, 3x, or 4x concentrations contain fatty acids, that, if poured on your clothes undilluted, causes stains.

I hope this advice helps to resolve the issue.

You can use bleach which will dispense out of the dispenser during the wash, then pause the wash and let it sit for a while then restart from pause and continue with the wash or
Page 19 from the User Manual states:
"Stain Away (WA5471) - For stained clothes. The stain Away cycle provides outstanding stain removal performance with the gentlest care and frees you from the need to pre-treat stains."
Hot water will set the stain so it is better to wash in cold water. Hope this helps.

Question

No hotwater wash.

Selecting the hot water control does not fill the tub with hot water. The washer cycles hot and cold during its fill. The water never gets hot because the cold water valve cycles in more cold water than hot. Using the normal or heavy duty modes makes no difference. Luke warm at best. Using the normal mode the tube fills with cool water. Any way to get the washer to fill with hot water only?

Thank you for the question. The ideal temperature for a hot water wash is 105° - 125°F, though this is dependent on the water heater settings in your home. It's not unusual for cold water remaining in the pipes to cause the temperature of the water filling the drum to be colder than that. To ensure the water supplied through the hot water pipe is indeed hot, some people choose to run hot water through a nearby faucet just prior to the start of a hot water cycle.

The WA5471 does have a Sanitize option available which uses the internal heater to boost the temperature of the water to about 150°F, though this may be too hot for some fabrics. I would suggest checking your hot water heater setting to ensure it is set between 110-120°F. To determine if your washer is filling correctly, try turning off the cold water supply valve. If the water temperature is hotter when the washer has no access to the cold water supply, service may be needed. Please submit your contact information to our support team through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

My husband I just spent an hour trying to diagnose the exact same problem. When selecting a Normal cycle and then choosing Hot temperature... the water alternates between the hot and cold hose (more than 75% cold) so that you end up with colder than luke warm water. Selecting a Normal cycle and then leaving the temperature on Warm gives you the exact same result. Said another way, the Warm cycle is chilly at best and the Hot cycle is no different. Our water heater is set at 120 degrees.

We did find a work-around that Ms. Samsung did not mention. Selecting Stain Away does seem to access only the hot water hose (well, every cycle - even Sanitize - seems to begin with about 10 seconds of cold) and the result is a true hot wash. Just make sure you turn off the extra rinse that comes with the Stain Away selection. Next up... I'm going to try the Stain Away on Warm to see if I can get an actual "warm" water temp instead of "chilly" like you get on the Normal/Warm setting.

Oh, and one more thing - the Sanitize cycle does not alternate between hot and cold... hot only.

Hope this helps - I myself will be calling service in the morning to try and get this resolved. Our washer is less than a month old!

I would not recommend using the pacs due to the technology of the machine with high efficency cleaning (low suds) with low water usage. Clothing could end up with bleach spots and damage some of the clothes. I would say the idea behind the techology is clean with less. Hope this helps.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

For top-loading washing machines, the filter screens are not accessible, but we have conferred with our resident appliance expert and he indicated that if you've recently had any plumbing done, this can cause the rust to build up. He also mentioned older homes are more prone to this issue, please refer to the following troubleshooting article for advice on how to clean the debris filter.

Generally there are screens in the hose connection at the faucet level in the wall. If they are not found, I would simply replace the hoses if they are old, worn and full of build up of hard water. Using vinegar will disolve hard water build up also. But if the faucets themselves have been there in your home from day one chances are they need to be replaced.

Bob47: I have the same issue on most loads, unless they are very light...then the water is way higher than normal. It must be a weight issue. Though the level is very low my clothes and towels, sheets, etc all appear and smell clean after drying. Supposedly this is normal. It is hard to get used to. answer 2
The WA5471ABW/XAA, like other high efficiency (HE) top load washers, is not designed to submerge clothes in water, but rather to circulate the clothes through the water and the water back over the clothes. This is made possible by the stainless steel pulsator which creates a "blossoming" action as it tumbles the clothes, and Samsung's recirculating pump which takes the water from the bottom of the drum and circulates it back over the top of the clothes during each portion of the cycle.

Samsung's HE top loaders use about 16-19 gallons of water per cycle, which is significantly less than traditional top loaders which can use as much as 45 gallons or more during a typical cycle. To ensure yours is using the right amount, check the inlet hose screens on the back of the washer for blockage, and make sure the hoses are not bent or kinked, the water valves are turned on all the way, and your home's water pressure is at the recommended 20-116 psi. If the pressure or water level are not sufficient, your washer is designed to display an "nF" or no fill error code on the display to alert you to check the above factors.

PowerFoam is automatic and does not need to be turned on. The amount of foam that is visible in the WA5471ABW and other models with this feature can vary depending on several factors, including the size of the load, the cycle that's selected, the type and amount of detergent and the kinds of fabrics being washed, since it penetrates different fabrics at different rates. PowerFoam is beneficial because it pre-dissolves the detergent by infusing the mixture of detergent and water with air, so what's important is not how much foam is visible, but whether the detergent has been pre-dissolved so it can penetrate fabrics faster and more thoroughly.

The WA5471ABW/XAA uses about 16-19 gallons of water per cycle. There are multiple variables that can affect the actual amount used, such as the weight of the load and the soil level, so I can't tell you exactly how much would be used based strictly on the cycle and the Extra Rinse.

Question

Where to add powder detergent?

Hello. I can't find in the manual for our WA5471AB/WA5451AN washer anything regarding use of powder detergent. I need to use Tiny Bubbles HE powder detergent to wash our cloth diapers. Do I put the powder in the drum? or will it still work in the liquid detergent department? This type of detergent is what works with our cloth diapers. Thank you!

Thanks for the question. The WA5471 does not have a debris filter, though it does have an alternate drain hose on the bottom-rear of the washer. If you get a "no drain" (or "nd") error, check the drain hose for visible clogs. Next, turn the washer off then back on, and run a Spin Only cycle by following the instructions on page 22 of the User Manual. (The manual can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.) Press the Start/Pause button to drain the water. If it still doesn't drain, it will likely require service. Question

How do I change the clock on the washer?

I did a load of wash using the delay start, telling the machine to start at 7 AM. It started at 5 AM. Can I change the clock so that when I tell the washer to start at 7 it doesn't start two hours earlier?

Thanks for the question. The washer does not have a clock, per se, but rather a Delay Start Timer. When you set the Delay Start, select the number of hours you'd like it to be delayed for. So, for example, if you put the wash in at 10 PM and you'd like the cycle to start at 7 AM, you should press the Delay Start button until "9:00" is displayed because you're delaying it for 9 hours.

Samsung recommends a vertical discharge of no more than nine feet, with a maximum of thirteen feet in any direction, based on the drain pump's capability. The drain hose that comes factory installed on your washer is approximately 6' long, and can be extended by purchasing another section of hose, then attaching it to the original hose by clamping them together with a steel sleeve. These parts can be purchased at most hardware or home improvement stores.

Please follow the instructions on the HE detergent package to determine how much to use since the amount varies depending on which formulation you have (2x, 3x, etc.).

The WA5471 like other high efficiency (HE) top load washers, is not designed to submerge clothes in water to soak them, but rather to circulate the clothes through the water and the water back over the clothes. This is made possible by the stainless steel pulsator which creates a "blossoming" action as it tumbles the clothes, and Samsung's recirculating pump which takes the water from the bottom of the drum and circulates it back over the top of the clothes during each portion of the cycle.

Samsung's HE top loaders use weight sensors to help determine how much water to add to the wash, and there is no manual adjustment for the water level. The total amount of water ranges from about 16-19 gallons per cycle, which is significantly less than traditional top loaders which can use as much as 45 gallons or more during a typical cycle.

Each pre-programmed cycle includes a certain amount of time that the clothes will be sitting in the water, though not all the clothes will be submerged at once. To maximize the amount of time the clothes are actually in the water, I would suggest selecting the Heavy Duty cycle, or another with the "Heavy" soil level selected. It is also worth noting that the WA5471 uses Samsung's Power Foam technology to pre-dissolve the detergent in the water by infusing it with air, which means faster and more thorough penetration of the fabrics in the washer, even when they are not submerged in the soapy water.
