The WA5451, like other high efficiency (HE) top load washers, is not designed to submerge clothes in water, but rather to circulate the clothes through the water and the water back over the clothes. This is made possible by the stainless steel pulsator which creates a "blossoming" action as it tumbles the clothes, and Samsung's recirculating pump which takes the water from the bottom of the drum and circulates it back over the top of the clothes during each portion of the cycle. For this to function properly, clothes should not be piled higher than the top of the drum, and they should be packed loosely.

To ensure your WA5451 is using the right amount of water, check the inlet hose screens on the back of the washer for blockage, and make sure the hoses are not bent or kinked, the water valves are turned on all the way, and your home's water pressure is at the recommended 20-116 psi. If the pressure or water level are not sufficient, your washer is designed to display an "nF" or no fill error code on the display to alert you to check the above factors.

Question

Do you produce a phamplet which describes detailed actions of each cycle on the WA5451ANW Washer?

I recently took delivery of a Samsung WA5451ANW washer and the Samsung DV5451AEW Dryer. The owners' manuals do not provide sufficient information to determine what the washer or dryer are doing on each respective cycle. Therefore, it is difficult to determine if they are operating and cleaning and drying the clothing properly.

There is a reason there are different settings. You must use the washer on the right setting for best cleaning. This is what I would call a smart washer. There are sensors in it to determine what needs to be done by each individual setting. You do not want to know what your smart phone is doing when it opens an app. This is the same principal. Theres no manual saying that this programs renders this and this program takes this resource over here etc. We all need to get used to all new technology. If they wrote a manual like that it would be a novel and no one would want to read it or understand the mumbo jumbo.

The WA5451ANW washer measures 27" wide by 44-3⁄5" high by 28-3⁄5" deep, and you'll need about 3-4" behind the washer for the hoses and connections. For more information on installing your washer and dryer in an alcove or closet, please refer to page 13 of the user manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website for easy reference.

Thank you for the question. The lid is designed to close slowly at angles below 90 degrees to help prevent it from being left open accidentally which would prevent the cycle from starting or continuing, and the angle is not adjustable. We appreciate your feedback, and I'll be happy to pass your comment along to the appropriate team.

Question

Isn't the wash water on NORMAL cycle suppose to be hot when hot is chosen?

The wash water on the NORMAL cycle is always cold-cold no matter what temperature is chosen. The other cycles such as towels, permanent press, sanatize, etc. is hot and very hot when the hot temperature is chosen. I have checked the hot wtaer faucet and it produces hot water approx. 135 degrees if necessary. I switched the hoses, cold for hot-hot for cold, and got very hot water. Then switched them back to the appropriate inlet. Also the volume of water on NORMAL cycle is barely enough to cover the clothes, although on the other cycles it seems sufficient to wash the clothes.

Is this normal or should I call for service? These appliances are only 4 months old. I just recently notice the problem with the NORMAL cycle. Could you sent me an email response?

Thank you for the questions. The default wash water temperature on the Normal cycle in the WA5451 should be Warm (85°-105°F) and this is achieved by the washer regulating the hot and cold water inlets based on the internal temperature sensor. In order to determine whether it's working properly, make sure the default temperature (Warm) has not been changed when selecting the Normal cycle, check that there is hot water at the ready in the hot water pipe by running a nearby tap until hot water comes out (this will ensure the water in the pipe has not gone cold from lack of use), and check the temperature of the mixed water after it has filled, rather than checking the water while it is being added. If the water temperature after the machine has filled is still cold, service may be needed to properly diagnose the cause. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Regarding the volume of water, the high-efficiency washers are designed to tumble the clothes through the water and the water back over the clothes rather than filling the tub to submerge the clothes. The amount of water that's visible in one load versus another can vary due to the size or weight of the load, the cycle selected, and the absorbancy of the items in the washer.

The WA5451 washer is designed to use approximately 16-19 gallons of water per cycle. The weight sensor along with the cycle and option selection help to determine exactly how much water is added, and the pulsator and recirculating pump effect the movement of the water through the clothes. If your clothes are not coming clean in certain loads, try the following:
- check the inlet hose screens on the back of the washer to make sure there is no debris preventing the water from entering the drum;
- make sure the water valves are turned on all the way and there are no bends or kinks in the lines;
- is your water pressure at the recommended 20-116 psi?
- try removing some items to ensure the washer is not overloaded.

Question

Where is the drain filter located on a Samsung WA5451ANW top load washer?

I pruchased a Samsung top load HE washer today (model # WA5451ANW) and it will be delivered tomorrow. The only question the sales associate could not is where the drain filter is located, or if there even is one. This is important to me because with our current washer (GE Adora) we had to remove the front panel and clean out the filter on a monthly basis due to our 3 large dogs that shed a lot. We frequently wash blankets that they lay on, thus causing the filter to get clogged with their hair and the washer not being able to drain. I really wanted to go back to a top load washer after our last experience, so we bought the Samsung, but I am concerned with what is going to be required should I have to clean a filter out. Thanks!

Thank you for the question. Unlike Samsung's front loaders, the WA5451ANW HE top loader does not have a debris filter that is easily accessible through a panel in the front. If the drain becomes clogged and you are unable to access the obstruction from the end of the hose, then service may be necessary. Our HE top loaders do, however, have an auxiliary drain hose located in the back of the machine so you can drain the water from the washer if the primary drain does become clogged.

Question

Bleach dispenser fills with dirty water and doesn't drain out.

My new Samsung washer was delivered yesterday. When I was a load of clothes, the bleach disepenser fills with dirty water and doesn't drain out. I did not use any bleach in the machine. I used a towel to absorb the water and washed another load and it refilled again. I know that the manual said that water can remain in the detergent drawer, but it didn't say anything about the bleach dispenser (plus it is dirty water). It also states in the manual that the bleach will mix the water to be diluted. You would not be able to pour bleach in this area because it is always full. Why is this happening?

Thanks for the questions. It is normal for all dispenser areas (bleach, detergent and fabric softener) to be flushed with water during different portions of the cycle, but if any of the compartments have water remaining after the cycle is complete, it is likely the washer is not leveled properly and is probably leaning forward. Try placing a carpenter's level on an even surface on top of the washer, then adjusting the front leveling legs to raise the front of the washer so it is level from side to side and front to back, with all four legs set firmly on the floor without wobbling.

With regard to the water being dirty, please check the inlet hose screens on the back of the washer; you'll need to turn off the water valves and disconnect the hoses from the back of the washer to do this. Since the washer is new, the lines are also new and shouldn't have any dirt or debris in them, unless it's coming from the water supply. Another possibility is that some dirt or debris found it's way into the exposed bleach dispenser during shipping or installation and just needed to be rinsed out.

I hope these suggestions help to resolve the issue. If you find the bleach dispenser still won't drain after adjusting the leveling, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

Water level

Sometimes the water level appropriately covers the clothes, but if they are puffy (i.e. winter coats) the water isn't high enough to circulate the clothes through. How can I fix this? I don't want to check the wash every time after it starts, and often I have to restart the load, which wastes the first water that was in the drum.

Samsung's HE top loaders do use weight sensors to help determine how much water to add to the wash (there is no manual adjustment for this) and the amount of water ranges from about 16-19 gallons per cycle. This is significantly less than traditional top loaders which can use as much as 45 gallons or more during a typical cycle.

If these suggestions do not help to resolve the issue, and the clothes you're washing are particularly "puffy" and absorbent, it might help to remove some items from that load.
