Question

share 1 remote for samsung bd and samsung tv

I have the BD-5900 and UN60ES8000F i know it came with a universal remote with a so-called ir blaster but that's only good when connecting devices to the multiple hdmi ports on the tv, not when using a reciever and it's missing many buttons from the remote.

I have 2 almost identical button remotes one for tv, one for bd, how can i just use the TV remote for both?

I have the same TV and blu-ray, I am able to use either remote to operate both the devices. So it should definitely work for you. The only thing is you might not be able to turn on the blu-ray player, using TV remote, but selecting blu-ray player input in TV would automatically turn on blu-ray player and then you can navigate menu using tv remote. Using blu-ray player remote, you can turn on and navigate both tv and blu-ray player.

I'm pretty sure you can use it thru the receiver as well. I have a similar setup and using the AnyNet CEC functionality I am able to control my BD player using the TV supplied remote and I further found out that I am able to control the volume of my non Samsung receiver using either the supplied remote, or my Cable Set top box supplied remote - both indicating on the screen that they are utilizing the ANyNet CEC functionality.

Hope that helps get you going in the right direction.

You need to either connect to your modem/router via an ethernet cable or use the TV's menu by navigating to the wireless options and entering your network information. After that, there is a web browser option in the Samsung Apps page.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

In order to connect your TV to the Internet, you'll ideally need a wireless network, though it can also be set up by connecting an Ethernet (network) cable to your HDTV. Please refer to the guide on how to set up one of these two connections.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We recommend you try updating your TV's firmware via USB flash drive to see if that clears up the application compatibility issue.

http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=168701&modelname=UN60ES8000F

If the issue persists, we recommend you perform a factory reset of your TV (follow the directions linked below) and then try the firmware update afterward.

Question

HDMI Handshake / connection issues

I have a Samsung HD Cable Set Top Box (SMT-C5320), that replaced my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD for allegedly better HDMI functionality.
this goes along with my UN60ES8000 and a Marantz SR6006 AV Receiver - all with latest firmware available and using HDMI 1.4 capable cables.

I have tried several configurations using HDMI STB direct to TV, STB via Marantz and none of them seem to work properly.

If I use the Marantz between STB and the TV, I get signal to the TV for about 10 seconds, then no signal. I then must turn on my AV Receiver in order for the signal to get repeated and passed thru, I can then turn the AV Receiver back off and use just my tv speakers for regular everyday viewing.

I don't want to use my AV receiver all the time - so why won't the pass thru functionality work properly?

Also if I hook up directly from STB to TV, I cannot get the ARC functionality to work and send audio back from the TV to the AV Reciever. My understanding is that hooking up an optical digital cable from the tv to the av reciever may fix this, but potentially only in 2 channel stereo mode...not acceptable. The other option is to use an hdmi splitter and run one hdmi direct to tv and the 2nd thru the av receiver...again not ideal but may be my last straw attempt at making this work -

Any suggestions or input anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated, as I am beyond frustrated with this now.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

You will need to refer to your Marantz product manual or contact their support group for questions regarding that device, specifically related to its operation, features or the best way to connect it to 3rd-party devices, since we are not familiar with another manufacturer's unit.

And since ARC is not working when the STB is connected directly to the TV, you would need to make sure that if ARC is enabled if is included as a feature on the receiver. In order to use ARC with Samsung products, AnyNet+ must be enabled. To access the AnyNet+ feature, you would need to click MENU on your TV remote and navigate to System > AnyNet+ (HDMI-CEC).

If you have any additional questions, we suggest your refer to your product manual or the product support page on our website, where you'll find a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, product support videos, FAQs and How-Tos, as well as manual, software, firmware & environment downloads.
