Question

Volume control

I moved Sony to bedroom and put the new Samsung UN55ES6500 in living room connecting to my existing Kenwood Sound system. I can not get the TV Volume output to control the volume on my system. It is fixed; does not work with any output even the optical. The sound delay setup helps but would rather shut the internal speakers off but when I do that then have no sound adjustment on TV. I do not want to use the Kenwood amp to control volume just the TV. Have not found the setup that allows this to work correctly.

This will depend on what you are using on your TV, for optimal quality you'll need an HDMI cable from anything that you are using (plugged into) your TV to get that 1080p.

If you're more specific I will help you on that question also.

We're sorry you're encountering this issue with your Samsung device.

In order to access Netflix Canada, you'll need to change the country code on your HDTV via Smart Hub. Click the Smart Hub button on your remote. Once it is open, press the following keys on your remote: FF > 2-8-9 > RW. This will bring up a list of countries. Select Canada from the list. You should be aware that changing the country code will delete all downloaded apps and that it will automatically download the default apps for the Canadian version. Not all apps that are available in the U.S. hub will be available for download via the Canadian hub.

Please let us know if you have any additional concerns.

GBTV or other interested App providers need to produce an App that works with the Samsung Smart TV system. You might petition the GBTV people to get in touch and develop a software option for Samsung devices.

A developers kit can be found here, if you'd like to send it to the people who are in charge of GBTV or any other interested party for App development:

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We're sorry to hear that your 2012 LED is not yet on the list of compatible models that can support this app. At this time, we do not have a known release date for this app, but we can only assume it will be available soon given how new your HDTV is. You can refer to the following page to see when your HDTV might be added to the list.

http://www.samsung.com/us/appstore/guide/appsGuidesPop.do?appId=G00001472450

It's also important to be aware that in order to access the content from this app once it does become available for your HDTV, you must be an HBO subscriber through your cable or satellite service provider.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We cannot recommend specific products outside of what Samsung manufactures, but based on our research, you would need an optical (TOSLink) cable, your headphones (with included cable) and a digital-to-analog audio converter. Depending on the inputs available on the DAC, you may need to purchase a digital coax (S/PDIF) cable instead of the optical cable. A digital coax cable basically looks like a composite or component cable, but the connector is colored orange. It functions the same as optical cables if there's not an optical input on the DAC or the device that the DAC is being connected to.

If you have any additional questions, we suggest your refer to your product manual or the product support page on our website, where you'll find a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, product support videos, FAQs and How-Tos, as well as manuals, software, firmware & environment downloads.

Using the directional buttons on the TV remote, highlight the app you want to delete (there will be a white ring around the selected app), press the TOOLS button and then tab down to the 'Delete' entry and press the center button. You'll get a popup that asks to confirm deletion as it will be removed from your linked Samsung account. Select 'Yes' to remove it or 'No' if you change your mind.

My TV turns off for no reason while watching.

I've checked the sleep mode setting and it is turned off, but periodically, the TV just turns off while I'm watching it. I've only had the TV for a week. There does not seem to be any consistent pattern or frequency of when this occurs. Happens at least once per day.

Thank you for contacting Samsung. Starting from the frequency, your TV actually have a Clear Motion Rate of 480. Your TV, however, is incapable of receiving a signal at anything other than 60Hz. The difference is made up in the processing of the TV.

Regarding the little dial in the bottom right, it's giving you info about your TV.

Regarding the removing apps, you can only remove apps you've added to the TV. We apologize for the inconvenience. You can remove them by highlighting the app you want to delete and then press the 'Tools' button and then use the arrow buttons to navigate down to delete.

Question

How to play a video file from a local NAS (Windows Network Share) drive?

Previous generation (circa 2010) of Samsung TV sets used to have a Media Player app built-in which could play video from a file server on the local network . But could not find anything like this in my brand new 2012 model. My NAS does not support DLNA and I would rather not have to keep my computers on just to watch a movie on my TV. Is there an app I could install on the TV?

Thank you for contacting Samsung. There may be an app, but using the file server would be superior option. There are a number of 3rd party solutions that work with DLNA. Unfortunately, I can't recommend a particular vendor. However, doing a quick web search should reveal multiple options. Thank you for being a Samsung customer!
