yes each device needs to have it's own connection in order to download update. Even though HDMI 1.4 does have ethernet built into it most TVs/BD players don't support sending a internet connection through it...yet.

If you are only needing the connection for updates. you can always go to the Samsung website--> support and see if there are updates available for your device, then you can download them on your computer, put them on a USB jump drive and then plug the USB jump drive into your device that needs updating - that might be a less expensive option

From the available information, the C8000 will not offer compatibility with the QWERTY remote control. Additionally, none of the current and previous generation Samsung TVs will offer support for 3rd party keyboards and mice.

If you are referring to the D8000, it will come with the QWERTY remote, but it will not have the ability to control anything but the TV directly.

This is actually part of Samsung's model numbering scheme and not just isolated to the 8 Series TVs. The different letters in the middle of the model number indicate what model year the TV actually is. "B" means the TV is a 2009 model, "C" means its a 2010 model, and "D" means the TV is a 2011 model.

Answer this Question

answer 1
This TV is a fully capable 240Hz set and offers the Auto Motion Plus feature that enhances said 240Hz image. This set will always upscale your 60Hz signal to 240Hz, regardless of any settings you may have active. However, in order to receive the full 240Hz benefit (judder and blur reduction, and frame interpolation), you will need to have Auto Motion Plus active. The reason you are seeing the 60Hz in the info box is because the info box only displays the signal’s actual Hz and screen resolution and not the info of the picture on the screen after the TV processes it. Meaning that the 60Hz you are seeing is the signals actual Hz and not the screen’s Hz. Currently there is no way to display the screen’s Hz in the info box. Coincidentally, the Samsung TVs can only accept a 60Hz signal and there are currently no consumer devices on the market that will transmit at over 60Hz (excluding some PCs).

Although much less susceptible than Plasma TVs, LED TVs are still subject to screen burn in (image retention). In general, you should avoid keeping a static picture (that is, a picture that contains no or few moving elements) or a picture with static elements (black bars, black borders, logos, etc.) on your LCD TV for more than two hours at a time. If, for example, you have your TV set to 4:3, and have black borders on the top and bottom, or on the sides, changing the picture size for a minute or two every couple of hours, say during commercials or in between shows, would decrease the chance of screen burn in. Reducing the brightness and contrast of the screen when it is displaying static elements will also decrease the chance of burn in.

If you are using your LED TV as a computer monitor, the same general rule holds true: Avoid keeping a static picture or a picture with static elements (black bars, black borders, logos, etc.) on your LED TV for more than two hours at a time. Make sure you change the image on your screen periodically. Also, if you intend to leave your PC unattended for long periods of time, or you leave the same image on your screen while you work on other things for extended periods of time, you should set up a screen saver that goes on after about twenty minutes, or set up your monitor so that it turns off if unattended for more than twenty minutes.

The advice above also holds true if you are using your TV to play video games. Avoid keeping a static picture or a picture with static elements (black bars, black borders, logos, etc.) on your LED TV for more than two hours at a time. Make sure you change the image on your screen periodically.

If there is anyone out there that knows how to connect the samsung un46c8000xf to a mac using a mini display port to hdmi I would love the help. I have spent about 2 hours now trying to get it to work searching the net and can't find anything. I can get the mac to blink to the blue screen but the tv never picks it up. If I go to my system settings on my mac under displays my mac reads what tv I'm using. So somehow it is getting the tv to read the signal.

I'm not 100% sure, but it sounds like you're trying to connect 2 HDMI outputs. Can you verify the Mac has an HDMI input (and not just an output)? If it does, there are probably settings for your video card for multiple monitors. They have to be set before a TV and PC can share the same PC screen. The TV screen will not be available to the PC unless you are using the downloadable Kies Allshare program on your PC. In that case you can only play video, audio or photo files. You can't stream real-time video TV to the PC. (At least not yet.)

There are three ways to connect your PC or Mac to your Samsung TV for monitor functionality: monitor cable, HDMI to HDMI or HDMI to VGA/DVI/Displayport. Please note, in the PC's operating system, you will need to set the display settings to either clone or extended view and set the PC’s resolution to match that of the maximum resolution of the TV in order to view your PC's desktop on the TV.

Although all of these connections are easy to hook up, the PC monitor cable is the most common. To connect it this way, just use a standard PC monitor cable to connect from the monitor out of your PC to the PC input on the TV. Some adjustments to the PC's resolution is required.

If your PC offer HDMI out, I would highly suggest using this connection, since it is a basic plug-n-play connection (meaning almost no adjustment is needed on the TV or PC).

HDMI to VGA/DVI/Displayport is almost the same as straight HDMI, but in this case, you will want to connect the DVI end of the cable to the PC (if available) and the HDMI into the TV. This is also considered a plug-n-play connection.

Unless otherwise specified by your PC manufacturer, you will need to connect the PC's audio to the TV with a separate cable (3.5mm jack cable from the PC’s audio output to the TV’s DVI/HDMI Audio input), since most PCs do not support audio over HDMI, VGA or DVI.

Additionally, the Samsung TVs do not offer wireless or networked monitor capabilities.

For Macs, the AllShare DLNA system will not be fully compatible; however, there are some 3rd party applications available that will allow you to stream your Mac's content to the TV. Unfortunately, since Samsung cannot offer support for 3rd party applications and devices, I cannot recommend a specific program to use.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you,
