Customer questions and answers for samsung 46" Class 6400 Series 1080p LED HDTV
Question
Do I need a separate HD Tuner?
My picture quality is not nearly as good as my 720p Samsung Plasma using the same cable input. The directions say that I need to connect to a HD cable box with and HDMI cable. I don't have to do this with my plasma. Do I need this for this TV?

Standard Definition (480i) signals look fuzzy on an HDTV. While many channels are now offered digitally and at a higher quality than analog, they are still 480i signals. This TV always displays at a resolution of 1080p no matter what the resolutuion of the incoming signal. If the signal coming into the TV is not 1080p, the TV scales it to fit on the screen. The scaling causes the distortion you see. That said, the reason why the regular cable signal looks more distorted on a 1080p unit then it does on a 720p unit is because the lower resolution cable signal has to be upconverted even more on the 1080p unit than it does on the 720p unit. Although you do not need an HD set top box, it would be recommended for the best possible picture quality.
Yes, if you want the best possible picture. Most HD stations broadcast in 1080i. Check with your local cable/satellite provider. Further if you wish to see bluray movies, you will need a 1080p capable tv, which this is.

The UN46C6400 is not a 3D capable unit. For units that do support 3D, please take a look at the C7000 and higher TVs.
I purchased my tv last week and switched the picture mode to dynamic. However, i noticed today that the picture dims when I switched it back to standard. The picture looks great for about 5-10 seconds after I switch to standard, but then it very obviously dims. I do not know if there is a auto dimming feature that reflects the amount of light in the room, but it is very frustrating to have the picture dim when i do not want it to. For the time being, I have changed the picture mode back to dynamic, but i would like to be able to have the option to use the standard feature. - I also tried resetting the picture.

I’m sorry you are having an issue with your device. With the information you have provided, it would be best if you navigate to the Samsung Support Page and either click on the link to speak with a Live Rep directly under the “Contact Support” section in the middle of the page or request service for your device under the “Schedule a Repair” section.
If you do not want to buy the recommended cleaning solution for the TV, you can used distilled vinegar and a soft clothe. DO NOT use paper towels because they are to rough and do not use water.

UN46C6400 Netflix streaming requires software/firmware upgrade, but no upgrade is available?
The UN46C6400 Netflix streaming application indicates it needs a software upgrade, however, Samsung download center does not provide any software or firmware upgrades for the UN46C6400. Can you provide a roadmap for when an upgrade will be released that enables Netflix streaming on a UN46C6400?

I'm sorry for the confusion. Since this unit is a North American model, it will only have support for NTSC/ATSC/QAM broadcasting systems and only 100v-127v 60Hz power. Since the NA TVs will not accept a PAL signal (or higher voltages), you will not only need a converter for the broadcast, but also for the power if you would like to use the TV in a PAL country.
Receving over the air DTV stations on the UN46C6400
If I buy the UN46C6400 at Costco can I hook up an antenna to watch over the air DTV stations or do I need to use the DTV convertor box that I have been using with my standard TV? I don't have cable TV and the specs for the UN46C6400 says is does not have a DTV tuner.

All current generation Samsung TVs are digital cable (DTV) ready. All of our TVs include a coax ATSC/QAM tuner that handles digital and analogue broadcast signals (cable or antenna) as well. No external boxes or equipment needed to view your basic channels.

Can I use this tv in Europe? There are no step-down transformers offering a Hz conversion from US 60Hz to Eur 50Hz. The voltage isn't the problem but will this tv work with a 110V-50Hz input instead of a 110V-60Hz input?

All UN, PN and LN units (North American Units) will only have support for NTSC/ATSC/QAM broadcasting systems and 100v-127v 60Hz power. Since the NA TVs will not accept a PAL signal (or higher voltages), you will not only need a converter for the broadcast, but also for the power if you would like to use the TV in a PAL country.
This TV is a fully capable 120Hz set and offers the Auto Motion Plus feature that enhances said 120Hz image. This set will always upscale your 60Hz signal to 120Hz, regardless of any settings you may have active. However, in order to receive the full 120Hz benefit (judder and blur reduction, and frame interpolation), you will need to have Auto Motion Plus active. The reason you are seeing the 60Hz in the info box is because the info box only displays the signal’s actual Hz and screen resolution and not the info of the picture on the screen after the TV processes it. Meaning that the 60Hz you are seeing is the signals actual Hz and not the screen’s Hz. Currently there is no way to display the screen’s Hz in the info box. Coincidentally, the Samsung TVs can only accept a 60Hz signal and there are currently no consumer devices on the market that will transmit at over 60Hz (excluding some PCs).
So will this model receive over the air signals from an antenna in high def. if that is all that is hooked up to the tv

All current generation Samsung TVs are digital cable ready. All of our TVs include a coax ATSC/QAM tuner that handles digital and analogue broadcast signals from your cable company, as well as Over the Air signals from an antenna. Premium services may require additional equipment and fees. Please contact your service provider for details.
For a Motorola set-top box by itself just attach the cable from the wall to the box, run the 2 audio and 3 video cables to the corresponding sockets in the TV, attach the power cord and you are in business. You may have to "program" the hand set to control your TV (see instructions with your hand set).
If you are attaching from a set top box to a VCR/DVD recorder, first run the cable from the wall into the socket marked "cable from wall" into the set top box. Then run another cable from the socket on your set top box labelled "out to TV" to the socket on your VCR/DVD recorder labelled "cable from wall." Attach the 2 audio and 3 video cables to the corresponding output sockets on your recorder and run them to the corresponding sockets on the TV. Attach all power cords. You may have to program your hand set to control your TV set and your recorder.
