The UN46B8000 does actually have a 1-tuner PiP system. 1-tuner systems only allow for one cable connection to be shown at a time on the screen. In order to connect it up, you will need a hard line going into the TV (cable coax) and an active secondary connection (HDMI, component, PC). To activate it up, either head into the TV's menu or click the Tools button on the remote control.

Again, you will need both a coax connection and a secondary input connection in order to properly activate and view PiP on your set. If your option is grayed out, this means that one of the required connections is not active and connected properly.

For further information on PiP, please refer to page 20 in the units user manual.

Make sure you are not in 3D mode (without glasses on) also, change the "smooth" settings in the set up under TV. It fyou are watching poor quailty DVD's or TV the image will be grainy. You can modify the picture mode to help. You can't force the TV to display in 240hz. if the application you are using is set in a lower display rate like 60hz.

Question

Closed Captioning

How do I get closed captioning to work on this TV? I have my cable box connected to the component inputs. The cable TV box is set to show closed captioning but the TV always says "Not available" when I press the "CC" button. I also cannot set Caption on using the Menu button as the menu option is not highlighted and it just skips over it.

Hey Anonymous,

In my experience Closed Captioning is handled by the first point of cable contact. So for example if the cable feed is first processed by the cable box, you'd have to use the closed captioning service on that device. Your TV at this point is used as the display and not for processing CC commands.

This is my experience, but as with everything experiences may vary. I'm sure someone else will chime in on this subject.

Cheers,

The cable box will turn on your closed captions. I had the same issue, callled the cable company and they gave me step by step to turn on from the cable box. Its works!!

Hint I got from cable company:
Cable box off, press menu, then menu screen should appears, scroll down to CC, then turn on (also select your perfernce style fonts/size), once done, press menu to get out of it. Press turn on the cable box, close captioning will come on based on your perference fonts/size. If dont like what you see, repeat the steps again till fully satisfied.

Enjoy!

There are no known reliability problems, this is just how Samsung has set up their warranty. Samsung also offers extended warranties if you feel that you need or just want one.

At this time, there is not a way for the Samsung LED TVs to connect to Netflix. In order to view netflix, you will either need to use one of the Samsung BD players that supports netflix playback or connect your computer to the TV and watch it through this method.

Screen uniformity is inherent with LCD technology. In most cases, it can be adjusted out by changing the settings or having it professionally calibrated. However, if you believe that you're unable to do so, you might consider calling 800-SAMSUNG to have your unit inspected.

Question

Is this TV set compatible with Europe?

I might be moving to Europe (Germany) soon and that's holding me off of buying a new TV set.
I have concerns of power (120V 60Hz vs 220V 50Hz), and TV signal (NTSC/PAL and ATSC/DVB).
Does it work? Will picture be affected by difference in the frequency (50Hz)?

If you purchase the unit within the North American Territories, it will only have support for NTSC/ATSC/QAM broadcasting systems. Outside of the NA territories you will not only need a converter for the broadcast, but also for the power.

I'm sorry you are having an issue with the connections. Since the Samsung LED 8000 series has limited inputs, I can see how this may affect your enjoyment of this unit. There are two ways to hook this system up to where you can have the DVD player and your Wii hooked up at the same time. You can either use an AV switch or an HDMI cable from either the DVD or the Wii. The AV switch will allow you to connect both the DVD and Wii to the switch and then with one cable connect the switch to the TV.

Samsung does not actually "sell" TVs through Samsung.com. Samsung.com actually redirects you to one or several of our retail partners for purchase. The price that is indicated on the product pages is the suggested retail price and does not reflect store sales, overstock price adjustments or inflation adjustments.

Currently, only the Samsung PC Share Manager is compatible with the Samsung TVs that offer DLNA. This would require the Linkstick, the Share Manager, a wireless router and a PC. Although this is true with the 2009 models, this may change with future models.
