why am i getting a poor resolution from tv camera stc-1100 when it says it is a 720p?
i just got this camara for my tv un46d7000 i would like to know if the resolution that i am getting is the one i should get becuase to be honest i got very poor picture quality. i wonder if that is the way it is?

I have the latest version of the software on UN46D8000 but the picture quality is still poor. It starts great, then it progressively deteriorates, then after a few minutes it again resets itself to full quality and then it repeats itself. I have skype on several computers and iPad at home and it doesn't happen on any other instance talking to this person only on the Samsung TV. It seems to me that either the camera or the TV software is the problem.

I read on the box that 7000 and 8000 series tvs will not get HD resolution with the skype camera. Only SD or standard definition resolution is available. Further clarification will need to come from a Samsung technician. Try menu and select "?" or support and then select software update and download the latest software for your TV.
I have model D8000 so I am expecting HD resolution. I have updated to the latest software on TV. it seems that the quality has somewhat improved. It doesn't deteriorate completely, only slightly and then it resets itself again (it goes blank for a moment and when it comes back, the picture is great again). Further improvement is needed.

I think the deterioration issue is a hardware issue, in the TV. Perhaps the Skype software could be better tuned, but I think the graphics processor is having a hard time keeping up. I doubt it's the camera itself, which I don't think does anything other than AV inputs and outputs. I am having this problem too, which is disappointing given that it's a special Samsung camera which cost a premium over standard webcams.

No Skype Video
I have a UN46D6900 and just added the STC1100 skype camera. we can get an audio connection, and my picture shows up on the screen, but i can't get picture in from who i am talking to nor can they see my picture. is this a skype configuration issue, a problem with the camera, or a tv configuration issue?

If you are receiving your own picture then your camera is obviously working.On Skype you have to select the video option and turn it on when sending or receiving a call for voice or video communication. Also try "Menu" "?" or Support and download latest Samsung software.
Does this model work with 2010 TVs? If not what happened to the model which did...
The Samsung web site says this model of skype camera works with 2010 TVs which are C models (such as UN55C8000) but various web sites say no -- only D models and later. This is confusing to customers.
Also, previously, there *was* a Freetalk 7180 model camera which *did* work with 2010 C series models but that is no longer available, apparently?

Hi, I have this working on my 55UNC8000 tv which is 2010 C series.
I chatted with tech support and they assured me it would work if I had the latest firmware for both the TV and the Camera -- I took a chance, bought it, upgraded firmware(s), and it works.
I believe the 720p quality only works for 2011 D series... but it seems good enough for my uses on the C series.

Yes, it works with the 2010 TVs. I have mine hooked up to my 2010 UN55C8000 right now. You do need to have the CY-STC1100/ZA version, which should be the only version that is available in the U.S. the CY-STC1000/ZD version does not work on 2010 models, but is not sold in the U.S.

Try plugging it into the USB1 port/the bottom port (not the USB2 port). Also, make sure you have already downloaded Skype as an app.

I had the same problem until I downloaded the Skype App in the Smart Hub section.
I purchased this skype camera to video chat. We just tried skyping. The video works both inbound and outbound. However only audio inbound to the TV works, it does not work outbound. In other words, I do not believe the microphones are picking up any sound. We have gone into the skype settings and tried both automatic and manual settings on the cameras microphone, even turning it up to 100%. It is connected to the USB HDD1 port as instructed in the instructions. There are no troubleshooting steps for audio in the Skype manual, TV Manual, or online. I have a Series 8000 TV and all firmware seems up to date.

I have the same situation. I discovered you have to use the internal TV speakers and not external speakers. I think this is a bug/product defect. I hope Samsung figures out how to use external speakers and the camera.

When they say that something is discontinued, it doe not mean it does not work, or there will not be any tech support for it. discontinued only means they will not be making/manufacturing it anymore. This is due to several reasons usually sales or a better model has been developed. I hope this answers your question.

LED light on CY-STC1100/ZA
The Operating Manual for your TV Camera, mentions an LED light that illuminates when the TV is turned on and the unit is correctly connected to USB1. We have PN51D8000FF and the 1100 is correctly connected, no light shows and we cannot see any place for a light to show.
Is it possible that the paperwork has not been updated and that the LED has been eliminated from an updated product?

The LED light is extremely faint on mine. You have to almost be standing next to the camera and looking right next to the camera lens to see it.

UN46D8000 LCD HDTV screen goes blank for ~5 sec than comes back on
Cable box/DVR stays on, AV receiver stays on, audio stays on, TV power remains on but the screen goes blank for ~ 5 seconds. This happens about once or twice per hour. Please help. Is this a warranty issue?

Hi MFS It seems you have a refresh rate issue , some how your TV has a specific refresh rate set. It is best for you to set the refresh rate to AUTO, the TV will give you the. ( Use the MENU button on your remote, then select settings, look for Display and you will see the setting for refresh rate. make sure its set to AUTO, you will see options like 30GH, 60GH, 120GH (GH is giga hertz) (basically this is the speed at which the TV changes from picture to picture). If this does not work, please provide details of your connections. eg, cable connected to receiver both video and audio, using HDMI, Components, AV. brand of cable box and receiver etc.
cy-stc1100 Camera wont work with my 8000 series tv??
Hi, i bought an 8000 series samsung tv not long ago and the camera came as part of the bundle. Ive plugged the camera in and all the cables are secure. its plugged into the HDD USB1 socket. and ive placed it correctly on the top of the tv. When i start skype, it constantly says "connecting to usb camera" in the bottom left hand corner. then after a few seconds i will get the message "disconnecting from usb camera" I understand there is ment to be a blue ligh on the camera which i have never seen. Im just wondering if it might be dodgy or am i doing something wrong??? do i have to activate the camera in one of the tvs settings??

Hello, I don't know if you got a response thru Samsung support or not but I have found the troubleshooting link for the stc1100 camera that says it's compatibel if you have firmware v.1035. That reference is listed here: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/pop_troubleshooting.jsp?ia_cd=N0000424&model_name=STC1100 I also have the un55c8000 and chatted with samsung and they say its compatible as well as when you type the model number into the "is this compatilbe" portion of the stc1100 webpage. There is much confusion on the web about this and the Freetalk 7180 camera is no longer availble. Please post back if you can get yours to work and confirm. Thanks.
The reason I have noticed this is because I have the Samsung camera for Skype and the picture quality was horrible with the version that was current in the summer 2011. I am always up to date with firmware but it didn't help. Then after I submitted couple of negative reviews and asked questions, there was an update to Skype in the fall which greatly improved the quality. Finally this camera was showing its promise. The angle was tight, but i was fine with it, since it covered our entire couch, and the quality was greatly improved.
Then about a month or so ago, as it is documented on Skype forums the Skype application disappeared from the Samsung App store for this TV and deleted itself from the TV. After people complained, the application appeared again, but the version of the app is from February 2011. Clearly it is not the updated version which was provided this fall 2011. And since now I have noticed that Skype is not listed as supported application for this TV I am starting to wonder what is happening with Skype on this TV. The quality of the video is quite bad, it starts good and then quickly deteriorates. Then after few minutes it resets itself and again quickly deteriorates so you cannot even recognize the person on the other end.
I can immediately connect with the same person on iPad or on PC and have great video quality. This signals to me that the problem is not in the connection, speed or the other persons camera or computer, but the problem is in my TV, the Skype application on the TV or the camera.
The Skype application on this TV looks also quite different than the pictures available on Samsung website
Also it is weird that the Skype application is registered and available in the App store twice.
In any case, I am wondering if Samsung D TV owners could comment on their experience with Skype on their TV. What version is your application (1.1xxx), when it was last updated and how it is your video quality.

The camera is not working. It has been plugged in, but no response from TV or camera.
Television is on, Camera is plugged in. I have disconnected it and reconnected it to no avail. No response is noted from either component. No blue light in the camera and the TV does not respond.

I had the same problem until I downloaded the Skype application in the "Smart Hub" section of the software. After that the camera works great.
