Question

Saving Inbox messages on Email using POP3

It seems that messages in the Inbox do not get downloaded and saved to memory, but are downloaded again each time Email loads messages. All other folders seem to remain independent of the email provider's server. This is a real drag when I've deleted something on my computer, but would have liked it to remain on my phone.

To counter this, I've had to set up my email to automatically forward to a Yahoo account, but having to maintain the extra account - and deal with all the extra waiting to load time - are things I'd like to avoid.

I still have a week to decide if I keep this phone or not, so quick responsed would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks,
Mirit

Question

Battery Drain

The phone seems to have an issue of excessive battery drain. When not in use it seems to drain the battery fairly fast without anything running. I make sure to close out of all the programs that are running as well as clearing the memory.

I do keep the sync on, and have wifi on at all times and are the only things turned on. I do not use the vibrate option. When I first got it. The stand by was 3 days. now the stand by is barely a day. Any thoughts on this or is Samsung working on a fix in the firmware?

You could also put your phone on "Airplane Mode", it saves the battery as well. You will have to cut it off to get text messages and calls afterwards.

I'll sugest going into >Settings >Battery There you can see what's eating your battery and adjust your usage habits accordingly. There is the possibility of a corrupted app that continues to run inadvertly and doesn't let your phone sleep.

The only way to save battery life on this phone is to shut down the data while not in use. Having it all the time on keeps the phone syncing with all the features that you may have online and drains it quickly. Done it, tested and workd. Follow my advise and see the results.

Question

How can I turn off the camera shutter sound?

I have the Sprint Galaxy S III. I've been trying to figure out a way to turn off the camera shutter sound. No matter what I try, the sound is always on. I've tried putting the phone in the silent mode and I can still hear the camera shutter sound.

Someone I know has the Verizon Galaxy S III and he was able to download an app called "Mute" off the Google Play store. That app worked to disable his shutter sound, but will not shut off the shutter sound on my Sprint model.

Can anyway help and tell me how to shut the shutter sound off on this phone? It's very annoying when taking a picture.

It is my understanding that the sound cannot be turned off. It is very frustrating. Hopefully Samsung will change this. In the meantime, if you block the 2 speakers with your fingers, it significantly decreases the sound. Also, some people I know have downloaded a different camera app and use it.

I'm right there with you on the frustration about this.

Yep, you can't as of the moment, far as I am aware. What I do is simply block the speaker on the back, its small so its easy to cover, do that and the sound is almost not audible.

If this is still too little, go and find a free camera app on Google Play! There are plenty with no sound effect or removable sound.

I don't know when it became law, but I know there is a law that says manufacturers can't produce phones anymore that have a silent option for the camera, simply because of the weirdos out there.. I've had several apps from the Play Store that mute it, but I keep coming back to the stock camera..

While the local ordinances may be in question, there is (was) a bill before the house to force manufacturers to have a shutter sound. There is a lot of debate about the legality. However Samsung has hidden this option and forced the consumer to use a shutter sound.
There is a way to disable the sound if you are interested in "Rooting" your phone. However this may void your warranty.

Root your phone
Edit the feature.xml file in system/csc to say <CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camer_shutterSoundMenu>

Then you get the menu option to turn it off.

This information is readily available on the internet.

You can either enable "Smart Stay" and make sure your front facing camera can see your face, then while your using your maps smart stay will recognize this and not turn off the screen. Otherwise you can simply disable the automatic screen off setting. Or make the time set for a longer period (ie ten minutes) and your more than likely to at least touch the screen within that time frame and keep it active. Hope this helps. - Zeke

I am not sure if this is what you are referring to, but do you mean to ask that when you got an email or text a voice would come over the phone and alert you? If so, you might have enabled Drive Mode on the old device and by default it does not come turned on some new devices. It is hard to find this setting, it varies by phone. On my S III it is under settings>language>text to speech output. On an S II it is also under settings>voice>text to speech if I recall. I only recall this because my mom somehow was able to fiddle around with the phone one day and activated this on her phone and had no idea how she did it.

They are buried but they are there. Go to my computer and select your device.

Start by choosing "card" not phone.

Open card
If the photos were downloaded they will be found under download.
If they were taken with the camera on the phone then look in "DCIM"
you'll find them at

My Computer\SPH-L710\Card\DCIM\Camera

Once you find your photos it's a simple copy and paste or drag and drop.
Hope this helps other frustrated people. Copying music was much easier. You don't need to dig for the hidden treasure.

Technically accessing the apps in general will mean that you have unlocked the screen. Although you can jump straight into the app from the lock screen by pressing the icon and swiping up. Then from there once you've finished with the app you can simply press the power button, and we're locked up again! Hope this helped - Zeke

I have noticed on my GS3 that if the connection is weak, and/or the wireless network has password security - - it may continue to scan for a stronger signal or one that doesn't require a password. I have my home network secured and cloaked so that I had to give the GS3 the SSID as well as the password before it would lock-in. Now- - no problem.

Hi Techie9,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that you would like to know how often should your phone, SPH-L710 be charged.

Please check the information listed below for the charging time for your phone.

Initial charging time: 6-8 hours
Regular Charging time: 2-4 hours

Don't wait for your battery to be fully drained before charging it. When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, the battery icon blinks and the device sounds a warning tone at regular intervals, you may already charge the your phone.

With the new Lithium batteries, there is no such thing as "battery memory" anymore.. After the initial drain and full charge, I've had good luck with charging every night, and I rarely let the percentage fall below 10%

MP4 is actually able to contain picture sound or video info. It is preferred over MP3 because the latter only contains sound. I know for a fact that my S III can stream all the movie files from my home NAS wirelessly and most of them are MP4 format. Just to test it locally, I moved over one of my anime moives with an MP4 extension to my SD card on the phone and am able to watch it just fine from my S III.

Question

Why does the GPS stop working when phone goes into deep sleep mode?

I use programs like Google Latitude and Endomondo quite a bit. Those programs require that the GPS functionality of a phone be "on" even when the phone is in "deep sleep" mode. I've noticed with my S3 that when my phone goes into deep sleep mode my friends can no longer see my locations being update on Google Latitude and I've similarly noticed that an app such as Endomondo won't continue to record my walking paths/distances once the phone goes into that deep sleep mode. What can be done to fix this issue?

I have double-checked and confirmed that my phone is NOT on power saving mode at all. I have spoken with my carrier (Sprint) and we did a full factory re-set of the phone but unfortunately the problem continues. I also did an online chat with Samsung and they weren't able to offer any suggestions either. I'm hoping that perhaps someone else in this community may have come up with a solution.

One suggestion I've heard that seems to work for some people is doing a re-boot of the phone every time it's unplugged from a charger. Apparently if you just unplug the charger (with the phone on) this problem is common but a re-boot after unplugging it can sometimes help.

Has anyone else out there had this same issue and if so have you found anything that works for you to fix it?

Thanks.

Question

Disable mobile view

I cannot seem to disable mobile view in every web browser I have downloaded (firefox, dolphin, crome and the factory one). There is not any option other than manually doing it every site I visit, this is very annoying as I cannot stand the mobile version of web sites. Is there any way to permanetly change it so every site comes up in the full desktop version of web sites.

Hello and thanks for reaching out!

Unfortunately, I do not see a configurable option to do this. You might want to look for a 3rd party application or plug in, in the Play Store, that will enable this. I apologize for the inconvenience!

Question

What is the problem with S voice?

The S voice worked perfectly and was very easy to set up. I've only had the phone for 5 days and for the last 2 days S voice is speechles (laryngitis?). It responds to your requests but without speaking. I took it to my local Sprint Store and the technician said there is an overload situation with the internet servers for S voice and sometimes it doesn't
talk when awakened. He tried one of their phones and theirs didn't work at that time either. I do sometimes get a message that says "internet error" when this occurs. Is the techician correct and if so how do you plan to remedy this situation and approximately how long can I expect this problem to continue? Thanks, Judy

Question

How do you get text "read notifications" aka " delivery reciepts"?

I'm not sure if this is a carrier issue or a software issue, but why does this phone not provide "delivery reciepts" for text messages? I had a much less advanced phone before i switched, which had this. I find this to be a very primitive feature, and am unsure as to why it wouldn't be included in such an advanced piece of technology.

Its much like attempting to drive a car without the primitive caveman invention of the wheel. Just doesn't work right.

Is there a fix or patch coming out that can fix this little programming flaw? Or perhaps an App that can be downloaded? (you'd think for the price, it'd just come with it)

Are you having issues with folks saying they don't receive text messages? I stopped seeing delivery receipts being used when I moved up to smart phones a while back but never thought anything of it. They pretty much take into account your message will go through. They will however, alert you if it doesn't go through though. I work in an environment that has lead walls and our signal tend to be iffy at times. If i try to send a message and it won't go I get alerts all over the place to notify me of it and the phone keeps trying to resend it by itself for a while.
