Questions & Answers for samsung Samsung Epic™ 4G Android Smartphone

Question

Why is my phone not using all the available memory?

My phone settings tell me that my phone should have 44.47MB of system storage available. I have an app that is trying to update that requires 6.89MB of space. My phone will not allow the update. I keep getting an error message that says "Error... Insufficient storage available." What is going on here? last time I checked 6.89 is a lot less than 44.47 so I should have plenty of space for this update.

Even though your phone has 40+ MB left, it still needs "room" to run it's processes, and for data management. The phone has a preset low storage "margin" that when reached, or when the phone detects will go over by installing an app. It will give you that error. I believe the threshold is 40MB.

Try freeing up some space, clean up your cache, and remove some apps you are no longer using.

You most likely had a 3rd party keyboard app installed. To see which keyboards you have installed you can go to:

Settings>Language & Input

You should have your installed keyboards listed right there. Check off any 3rd party ones installed and be sure to choose which default input method you want to use.

Next, after configuring the keyboard of choice, go into the setting of that keyboard and see if the option to display on-screen arrows is there.

Go to the options menu, and configure the keyboard options to reflect the style of keyboard you would like, or in a blank field press and hold the screen untill the keyboard appears, On the keyboard there should be a WHEEL looking icon. Press that and hold it,. The options menu for the keyboard will appear. After you are done, go back, or hit done......Hopefully this helps.....

September 16th there was an update released for activating the media hub. It is an Over the Air update and is being "pushed" to phones by your provider in waves. All phones should be receive the system update notification by the end of the week. Just follow instructions to update your phone at that time.

This is an option on 2.2 (and newer Android versions). After you download them you can go to SETTINGS -> APPLICATIONS - MANAGE APPLICATIONS
select the application and there will be and option to MOVE TO SD CARD that is highlighted if it is not the app does not allow to be move to the SD. Also, not all of the app gets moved to the SD so you wont recover all your space you will see how much of the app is left on your phone's memory.

Question

Epic's A2DP is not compatible with the Parrot MKi9100 Hands Free Device?

I previously had a Samsung Instinct that worked well with my Parrot MKi9100 hands free device. However, I recently traded in my phone for a Samsung Epic which does not work with the Parrot MKi9100. I am able to make phone calls through the hands free device, but I'm no longer able to do voice dialing. I'm also unable to play music through the bluetooth A2DP features. The hands free shows the bluetooth controls but no music from the Epic plays through it. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi hapticxistence,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that your phone is not compatible with the Parrot MKi9100 Hands Free device.

While your handset support the A2DP Bluetooth profile this would best be addressed by your car kit manufacturer for handsets approved for compatibility.

In most cases, this information is available on the manufacturer’s website or if you're trying to connect it with a different phone, then check the compatibility with its manufacturer as well.

Please bear in mind that Samsung does not support the use of any third party hardware with our handsets.

Question

What video format is Samsung epic using to stream DLNA via phone using Allshare

I am unable to stream my videos from my samsung epic to my Sony Bravia tv and PS3 both of which have dlna capabilities. The pictures and music works fine but not video. I contacted tech support (online was no help) and the phone person is telling me that I need to buy a Samsung LAN adapter. This doesn't make any sense - you should be able to use any WifI enabled device to stream the videos as effortlessly as it has been shown in the Samsung Epic commercials.

Is this a format issue and if so does Samsung plan on having an update to incorporate other video formats ????

Question

How do I set the background to automatically turn off when the Epic is plugged into a charger?

I own the Samsung-SPH-D700. I believe that I once had the option to choose whether the display turns off while the phone is plugged into a charger. I would like to set it to automatically turn the display off within a certain time period when plugged in, but I cannot find such a setting. Even though the display and keyboard timeout periods are set to 15 or 30 seconds, the display remains on if plugged in. I cannot find this issue in the user guide or the website support.
