Hi emtbob!

Thank you for your inquiry.

To install the Memory or the SD card on your Samsung Epic 4G (SPH-D700), please follow the steps below:

1. Remove the battery cover. Grasp the device firmly and locate the cover release latch. Place your fingernail in the opening and firmly “pop” the cover off the device (similar to a soda can).
2. Orient the card with the gold strips facing down. (Make sure the microSD card's gold contacts are facing down)
3. Firmly press the card into the slot and make sure that it catches with the push-click insertion.

NOTE: There's no SIM Card slot on your Samsung Epic 4G as your handset is a CDMA phone that doesn't require the use of a SIM card for connecting with your service network system.

We appreciate your continued interest in Samsung products.

I use Andvance Task Killer to manage processes running in the background and it works for me. I keep 4G, Bluetooth and WiFi turned off as well. You can also change the settings for the brightness on the display and this will help as well.

What you can do is turn off all running applications; they tend to be a memory hog. Most of the running applications are apps that you do not even use.

answer 3
1. Make sure you keep 4G, Bluetooth, and wireless off unless you are actually using them.
2. Use your task manager to make sure you turn off unnecessary background programs and clear the memory occasionally.
3. Very important! Make sure you update your firmware and android op system. Sprint recently and finally released update to 2.3 Gingerbread. This will depend on your carrier.
4. Make sure gps and other background tracking etc is turned off on apps you don't use very often.
5. Let the phone battery get low till it warns or turns itself off. Then turn off phone and charge overnight or until blue light comes on that battery is fulled charged.
6. Keep prl and profiles updated.
7. Delete any extraneous or unused apps, especially those that tend to be more intrusive and use gps etc.
8. Adjust your roaming settings.
9. Finally, always keep charging cords available. usb for computer, car charger, and home charger around and with you. If battery gets to 25% its time to charge. Again, you can let it get low and turn off and charge overnight or until full.
I am sure there are other fixes but those are my thoughts off the top. good luck.

You do not have to drain your batteries until they are dead and then re-charge it. The batteries in these units are a Lithium-Ion battery and as such do not develop a memory such as the Nickel Cadmium batteries did in the olden days. Your problem may stem from too many things running in the background such as GPS, Bluetooth and any other power sucking apps or other services. From the home screen touch the symbol tot the left that brings up your utilities menu, then select settings. Select the wireless and network line, touch bluetooth and make sure it is off, unless you need it for an ear bug or something else. Touch the back symbol, then select location and security, and see that the GPS is off unless you need that too. The screen brightness also should be turned down and you can also shorten the time outs for the keyboard and screen. A little here and a little there will extend your battery life. I have not checked, but the stock battery is 1,500 mah, getting a larger one if they have it will also increase your time. I hope that helps!

go to settings>applications>running services and kill the service that says something like DRM service. Also check your battery stats if your cell standby is like 50% then go into airplane mode for about 10 seconds then toggle back out of airplane mode. You need to do that everytime you reboot the phone. Those 2 things should help your battery life immensely.

answer 6
Extending battery life on your Epic 4G is pretty simple. First, you want to use the built-in task monitor to make sure you don't have any unnecessary applications open. Also make sure the phone's display is on the minimal brightness setting, unless you absolutely need it higher. As another user suggested, letting the phone die completely (where the battery is so dead that the phone won't boot) and then charging it again, and repeating this process (not charging the phone again it's completely dead) is a good way to improve battery memory and overall life, otherwise the battery begins to get confused about where full and empty are, and has issues holding a full charge. If you're still having issues after all this, check out an app called Juice Defender. This app manages your wireless data connections and other services to make sure they are not running and draining your battery when not in use. I hope these ideas have helped.

Every one will deal with this in their own way. Having cords everywear is common sense when you consider that you bought a very high power machine. Another solution is to have a charger for travel that is also a back-up battery. I saw one in a magazine and plan to buy it.

I think that draining batteries is a real solution consistent with all of my understanding of batteries. The down side to repeatedly charging batteries that are Partially Drained is a poorer reliability. For example, a few days ago I left work w/~70% charge, an hour later I got the battery notice. I attribute this to repetitive charging. I think, in the final analysis, changing batteries is the best practice.

You don't need to add any apps. What you need to do is completely drain the battery for a couple of days then let it fully charge. Then you won't have anymore problems. My husband and I did this and it worked perfectly! I can go the entire day without charging.

Get power cords for work and home. If you use your car for travel during the day, like a salesman, get one for your car. All those other options are defeat the purpose of buying the phone. Airplane mode? Turn down the brightness? Disable auto sync? Huh? The reason we all got this phone is to USE THE PHONE AS IT WAS BUILT. The only way is to get more power cords. Swapping out the batter is requires removing of a case, if you have one. Pop the back. Reboot. How practical is that if you're using the GPS, on a call, or checking e-mail at the time the battery is about to die?

Cords. Cheaper. Faster. Simpler.

I recommend the use of the Program Monitor widget along with the spare battery charging system. The widget will allow you to close out any apps similar to advanced task killer. The spare battery system come with the charging system and another battery. I just swap my battery out when mine is about to die and it has allowed me to completely negate ever having to charge my phone.

-disable "Auto-sync" under "Accounts and sync" in settings.
-enable airplane mode or disable individual radios when not in use or in no signal areas like a basement (example: WiFi, 3g, 4g, GPS)
-If you disable "Automatic brightness" under Display settings you can control brightness by sliding your finger along the notification bar located at the top of the screen, Tip: the lower the brightness, the less power the display consumes.
-Use the built in task manager by pressing and holding down the HOME button and selecting "Taskmanager" from there press the "Help" tab to get more suggested tips To extend battery life.

I added what is called the "power scheme toolbar" to one of my pages and yet the battery still does not last all day. I have everything off besides the brightness to the screen. granted it does help improve the battery some, but not by much. And that is also with installing ATK (advanced task killer).

If you can live without the back ground tasks enabled the battery will last all day and then some. Turn off GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi when you are not using them. Go through all the settings and turn off anything which updates or allows automatic updates. Then minimize the time the screen is on by not playing with it. When its all shut down like so, my Epic will be on standby all my working day and the battery icon will be full come 5pm. The Advanced App Killer helps also.

Download an application called "Advanced Task Killer". This will kill any unnecessary applications running which consume lot's of power on your phone. You can also try looking into your settings as to how everything else on your phone is running, which you may be able to change, which will also save power on your mobil device.

I was having the same problem yesterday. Today, I bought a mini-USB (female) to micro-USB (male) adapter, put the adapter onto a different USB cable (thicker than the one that came with the phone) and connected the phone to my computer. The computer immediately recognized the phone and everything worked as stated in the manual.

I went through tech support as well, and was informed that there was no way to connect via the USB port. I was informed that I would have to remove the micro SD card and connect it directly to the computer. The real solution is to go to Samsung.com, click support, enter model number (sph-d700). Under the download section select the device (install) USB driver. Click download and follow the instructions. Once the zip file has been downloaded, click to extract it. Double click to launch the app and the device drivers will be installed. Reconnect the device and you should find it under my computer.

For you to connect the phone to the PC, it would require you to have the memory card inside the phone and a data cable that is part of your standard box contents. Once you already have the requirements, and then do the following steps:

Select Menu.
Select Settings.
Select Applications.
Select USB settings.
Choose Development
Make sure that USB Debugging, Stay Awake and Allow mock locations are all unchecked.
Connect the USB cable to the device.
Connect the opposite end of the USB cable to the computer.
Bring down the Notification Bar, and select USB Connected.
Select Mount

Check on the computer screen if it will recognize the device and Removable Disk will pop up on the screen. Select open folder to view files. Choose Image/Graphic folder, drag and drop/copy and paste the file from the source folder going to the destination folder

Have a good day

Remove the back cover by pulling up it up at the bottom of the phone. You will see the card housed inside the silver casing below & to the right of the camera. Push down on the card & release & now you can take out the card. Just a note the phone only takes micro sd. Once you are ready to put the card back in or put a new one in there just slide it in there w/the text facing up and push down.

First, remove the back cover, by releasing the cover at the bottom of the phone. Once the cover is removed, on the back of the phone, below the camera lens and near the volume controls is a flat metal slot for the sd card. slide in the card with the Samsung name facing you and to the right. The slot seems to have a bit of a spring to it, so when you press on the sd card to remove, it sort of jumps out. Occasionally, the phone will say that there is no sd card installed. just remove it and re-insert it.

if you prefer to use the native camera app with the front facing camera, follow the following steps:
1) Open the Camera App
2) On the left side, you will see 4 icons. These may autohide after a moment, but you can get them to display again by tapping the little arrow tab that is now on the left side.
3) Press the upper left icon (Shooting Mode)
4) Select Self Shot in the upper right side of the new menu.

This is how you can also get to panoramic photo settings, as well as a number of others. Just remember the process so you can go back to the rear camera (Single Shot) once done.

In answer to Samsung7's reply, this is not correct. You do have a camera on the front of the Epic 4G phone for use with the Qik application which should be preloaded on your phone. The Qik app uses the front camera for video chat. You can also select the primary camera Qik uses to be the front or back one by pressing the menu button while Qik is open and choosing settings. There you will find the option to select your camera. You can then use the front camera to record video of yourself.

It was available Feb 21 and then it was taken away. Some sort of QC issue. It works fine on my phone. Be nice if they would just go for 2.3 or even 3.0 since most of the apps will not work with 2.1 anymore.

There is no synch software for the Epic 4G. Serious product deficiency. To synch contacts you have to export Outlook contacts to a comma separated values file - then import that file into Gmail. Exporting Gmail contacts back to Outlook did not seem to work.

I have not tried the calendar export, I assume it works the same.

Manual conversion of data is not an acceptable work around.

If all you want to do is keep a picture or video from showing up in the gallery then make a blank text file in notepad on your computer. Name the file ".nomedia"
it needs to be named exactly that. Don't forget the period before the word nomedia.
Then save this text file to to your phone in any folder containing photos or videos you do not want to be shown in your gallery.
Basically whats happening is when your phone is scanning for media files it sees this text file which tells it to skip that folder. Remember nothing in that folder will now show up.
Keep in mind that the files can still be accesses through the folder browser all this does is hide them from the gallery.

If your trying to hide pic/videos from lets say a spouce or girl/boyfriend then go to app market and get AUDIO MANAGER it disguise itself as an actual phone audio manager that allows you hide pictures and videos and does not store them on your sd card.
If you just want to hide pictures/videos from general people who may use your phone.... kids, friends, family etc.... then try VAULTY FREE. This does the same as audio manager but can not be access unless they know the password. Hope this helps

If you create a folder with a name beginning with a dot (like .noshow), the picture gallery app will not index the contents of the folder.

To do this, you can just use the file manager that comes with your Epic to create the folder and move the pictures/videos there.

Not sure what Geo is talking about. There is no drop down arrow on the calendar list. I too have my default calendar - synched to my company exchange server so don't tell me to switch to Google calendar - showing appointments in dark red with black text. That was a boneheaded idea. It also appears Samsung is inflexible on this also as there doesn't appear to be any means to change it. Someone please write an app to bring Samsung up to par with Blackberry!

I too had this problem for awhile. I found that If I powered the phone off and back on it would 'fix' it, as my settings had not changed. The other thing I noticed when it encountered this problem it would also 'loose' the additional screen widths and I wouldn't be able to access the contact widget that works like a flip-page rolodex. It turns out my third party application (a Task-Killer app) was causing this. If I used that task-killer to switch to another running application, it would 'break' the functionality until a reboot. Since I removed third party Task killer app it performs flawlessly in nearly every scenario.

I had this problem when I first got the phone. They changed it out the first time, but when it happened again they looked further into it. They found that my casing or the protection gear i bought wasnt allowing the phone to close apprioately for the phone to recongize the timing of the rotation. For instance if I slammed it close then it would rotate. So just take the casing off and try that. It may take a few minutes but mines bounced back. Hope it works for you.

Regarding about your concern, upon checking the specification and settings on the Samsung Epic™ 4G Android Smartphone (SPH-D700), there is no configurable option to sort the contacts to appear last name first.

As what sappha58 said, we suggest editing the contact and then put the last name of that contact on the First Name field.
