I'm sorry to hear the vent fan on your SMK9175 is not working properly. Samsung's over the range microwave vent fans are designed to be both quiet and powerful; if this is not the case with your unit then it is likely the result of not being installed properly, or the unit requires service.

I would suggest reviewing the installation instructions which can be downloaded through the link below, or contact your installer for assistance.

Over the range microwave installation instructions: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...

Please note that these instructions are the same for all Samsung over the range microwaves, and are not specific to any one model. If the problems persist after correcting any issues with installation, then please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

The SMK9175ST comes with a cookbook which corresponds to 200 built-in recipes already programmed (including pies), and there are also instructions in the User Manual for cooking many more items. I would suggest consulting the package for a particular frozen pie for instructions, keeping in mind the multi-functions of the SMK9175 Speed Oven would allow you to follow the pie's instructions for microwaving or baking, as well as roasting or grilling other types of items.

The SMK9175ST is designed to be installed over a range because of the usefulness of the vent fan and lighting for over a cooking surface. However, as long as the microwave is mounted under a cabinet, leaving the space underneath the unit completely unobstructed and well ventilated, mounting over a kitchen counter should be fine.

Question

Why is my new microwave making "Clik" sounds (coming from the circuit breaker panel) every few seconds for the past few hours?

It started since my 1st 2 minutes use of the microwave, and it has been going on since then none stop (already 3 hours and still going on). The "clik-clik-clik" sounds are really worrying me. Please advise, it is new and I just have it installed today.

The SMK9175ST Over the Range Speed Oven Microwave requires a 120V, 60 Hz power supply and a dedicated 20 amp circuit, meaning no other devices should be plugged into the dedicated outlet. The microwave must be grounded by plugging the 3-prong cord into a properly grounded, standard, 60 Hz, 20 amp, 115-120 volt outlet.

I would suggest having your installer review the installation instructions to ensure it was installed properly. A licensed electrician could verify the outlet is connected to a dedicated 20 amp circuit. If all installation and electrical requirements were followed and the microwave is still making noises upon plugging it into the outlet, please unplug it and contact 800-SAMSUNG for service.

Question

WHEN MOUNTING THE OTR MICROWAVE, DOES THE TOP/FRONT OF THE MICROWAVE NEED TO EXTEND BEYOND THE BOTTOM/FRONT OF THE CABINET ITS BEING MOUNTED TO?

MODEL SMK9175SST. I'M USING THE RECIRCULATING MOUNTING OPTION. THE INSTALL MANUEL SHOWS THE FRONT/TOP OF THE MICROWAVE FLUSH WITH THE BOTTOM/FRONT OF THE CABINET ITS MOUNTED TO, BUT THIS PUTS THE VENTS UNDER THE CABINET AND BLOCKS ACCESS TO THE SCREWS TO REMOVE THE COVER FOR REPLACING THE CHARCOAL FILTER. SHOULD THE MCWV BE MOUNTED SO THAT THE VENTS ARE CLEAR OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CABINET (MEANING THE MCWV WOULD PROTRUDE @ 1.5 INCHES FROM THE CABINET FACE). ALSO, THE MANUAL SHOWS AN OPEN GRILL AND SAYS THE CHARCOAL FILTER SHOULD BE VISIBLE FROM THE FRONT OF THE OVEN, BUT MY MCWV HAS A SOLID STAINLESS COVER. DO I NEED TO PURCHASE A "CHARCOAL FILTER KIT" THAT INCLUDES THE OPEN GRILL? WOULD THIS NEGATE THE NECESSITY TO MOUNT THE MCWV SO THAT IT PROTRUDES FROM THE CABINET?

The installation instructions for Samsung's over the range microwaves are applicable to a number of different models, so details may vary somewhat with regard to the location and angle of the recirculating vent relative to your cabinet front. The SMK9175ST should protrude from the cabinets at least enough for the hidden vent (as well as the screws to remove the cover) to clear the cabinet doors. The vent is angled to blow air up and out into the room, rather than straight up into the cabinets. Since many top cabinets measure only about 12" deep, and the SMK9175ST is about 15-1/2" deep, it would not be unusual for it to be set out more than 1-1/2" from the cabinet face.

The SMK9175ST should have come with a charcoal filter, which is installed by removing the "hidden vent" front cover per the instructions on page 55 of the Users Manual (downloadable as a pdf file from this website if needed).

I hope this answers your questions!

If it sounds as though the turntable is slipping, I would suggest checking to be sure it's seated properly and there is nothing extending past the edge of the turntable that could be preventing it from turning or brushing against the side of the microwave. When you run the microwave again (be sure you are heating a plate with food, not running it empty), watch to see if the plate is turning properly. If not, your microwave may require service. Please refer to page 45 of the SMK9175 User Manual for details and instructions on using the combination cooking feature. These instructions indicate the ability to manually select the % Power Level for the microwave; temperature is not selectable when using the grill or brown function in the same way that you would not set a temperature on a broiler. To develop recipes requiring a temperature control, please refer to the Convection Cooking instructions on page 44.

My unit is making a clicking sound constantly when the door is closed. How can I get it to stop?

It does this when it is running or when it is idle. It only stops when you open the door or unplug it. Otherwise it works great. But the noise is so loud we unplug it when not in use.
