When my Hood Exhaust fan rattled, I found it was the Charcoal filter wasn't in place correctly for the exhaust outtake. To test I removed the cover for the exhaust vent, removed the charcoal filter then ran the fan to see if it still rattled.

Since you're talking about the convection part, were you cooking something below on a range as well? The Fan auto starts to protect it from heat from the range. I'd check the charcoal filter first just in case. Easy fix if it is the case.

No the convection fan should not, but on ours it did. You can fix this with a wire coat hanger, wire cutters, and pliers. This will not void your warranty. What is happening is that the convection fan spins and pushed back and rattles on the side wall of the unit. You need to pull the fins back towards the inside of the microwave. If you take the wire cutters and cut off a six inch piece of wire coat hanger, next take the pliers and make the wire straight. Next take the pliers and bend the wire on either end such that the ends are perpendicular to the wire. Each end should be shaped like an L. One end is so you can get a grip on it, the other is to insert into the holes and slip behind the convection fins. Pull on the wire and it will flex the fins to the center of the microwave. Twirl the fan slowly around and repeat on each fin. Remove the wire and congrats, no more rattle! Technical support with samsung is of no help. They also refuse to send out a technician until it is mounted. These units are not cheap but a poorly tuned fan sure makes them sound that way. Hope you enjoyed the quick and easy fix, maybe they can teach the Malaysians to do this before sending them off the assembly line.

Thanks for the question. While it's not unusual to hear some sound from the convection fan, if it sounds as though it's hitting something it may require service. I would suggest submitting an online service request through the link below, or calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

If you mount the 9175 microwave convection over a gas stove, is 30" still the minumum bottom of cabinet to top of stove install measurement?

Currently the bottom of my Samsung 9715 vent is 24" from the top of a 36" high gas range. And the bottom of the upper cabinet to the top of my stove is actuallly 42" high....not the minimum 30" high as my contractor said with a gas stove, it needs to be much further away.

At 5'5" tall (taller than average woman's height), I have to nearly step on my tippy toes to open the door and get on a step stool to put in a large dish. Please advise as I want to be safe. I am willing to pay the contractor to lower the microwave a few inches so that I don't have an accident falling off a stool. I do not want to cause a fire hazard either, and I can't find in the manual where it talks about mounting height over gas ranges vs. electric. Please advise and after having the oven one day, I already LOOOVVVE the product! Wow! Cool features!

Thank you for the question, and for the positive feedback on the SMK9175!

Samsung's recommended clearance for mounting the over the range microwave is the same for gas and electric ranges. I've attached the image below which provides all the measurements.

The reference to 30 inches is a standard building code reference to the minimum distance from the burner of a STANDARD gas or electric range to the lower wooden surface of cabinets above the range. Microwaves can be closer. Samsung can advise how much closer. However, it is possible your contractor is advising based on your having a NON-STANDARD range. The heat output from professional type 30-36 inch gas ranges is MUCH higher, such that it is frequently essential to have a high capicity exhaust hood above them. The range manufacturer can advise the venting requirements and the safe distance above the range for wood cabinets and/or microwave installation.

In any case, I found no "above the range microwave" from any manufacturer that had sufficient exhaust capability to providing sufficient exhaust capacity to permit installing them over a professional type 30-36 inch type range.

To set the SMK9175 microwave for simple one-stage cooking, you should simply need to press "Microwave", then use the number buttons to set a cooking time, as instructed on page 42 of the User Manual. You'll need to enter the seconds in addition to the minutes you'd like it to cook for, then press the Start button. For example, to cook for one minute, press 1-0-0; for two minutes, press 2-0-0; for 20 minutes, 2-0-0-0, then Start.

If this is not what you are experiencing in trying to cook with your microwave, then it may require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for the question. The SMK9175 does not have the option of displaying the temperature at any given time. After the temperature is set, the Speed Oven will let you know when it has reached that temperature, and it will remain there until it shuts off or until it changes to a different programmed setting.

The SMK9175 User Manual available on this site fully treats reheating all types of food with the Microwave. If you download the PDF version from Support & Downloads, you can easily search and find every reference to "reheat" in the entire manual. Open the manual with Adobe Acrobat reader and right click on any page and select search from the menu.

While Samsung is consistently pushing the limits of technology in the living room and the kitchen, there are still limits to that technology. Unfortunately, at this time, this model does not have the ability for a user to reprogram its 'recipe' functions. I'm very sorry if this will cause you any inconvenience.

The SMK9175ST is designed to be mounted on brackets with no obstruction below it. If, by "built in", you mean you would like it to sit on a shelf, Samsung would not recommend installing this unit in an enclosed area or sitting it on top of a shelf.

Question

Why doesn't your Web based Product Page for SMK9175ST Microwave highlight the GRILLING feature?

This microwave has all three cooking technologies - Microwave-Convection AND GRILLING, but the grilling feature is absent from the literature on the product's web page. The combination make this competitive with similar microwaves costing nearly twice as much. So, why not shout it out?

Why is my new microwave making "Clik" sounds (coming from the circuit breaker panel) every few seconds for the past few hours?

It started since my 1st 2 minutes use of the microwave, and it has been going on since then none stop (already 3 hours and still going on). The "clik-clik-clik" sounds are really worrying me. Please advise, it is new and I just have it installed today.

The SMK9175ST Over the Range Speed Oven Microwave requires a 120V, 60 Hz power supply and a dedicated 20 amp circuit, meaning no other devices should be plugged into the dedicated outlet. The microwave must be grounded by plugging the 3-prong cord into a properly grounded, standard, 60 Hz, 20 amp, 115-120 volt outlet.

I would suggest having your installer review the installation instructions to ensure it was installed properly. A licensed electrician could verify the outlet is connected to a dedicated 20 amp circuit. If all installation and electrical requirements were followed and the microwave is still making noises upon plugging it into the outlet, please unplug it and contact 800-SAMSUNG for service.

The user manual and the troubleshooting guide both indicate the SMK9175ST should be powered by an independent 20 amp 120 volt AC circuit. That is how I plan to wire the outlet for my unit. The convection element alone is 1600 watts and draws 14.5 amps. Using convection and microwave functions may trip an 15 amp circuit breaker. The dedicated 20 Amp circuit is the way to go if you plan to use more than one function at a time, which is the main reason to own this oven.

The SMK9175ST is designed to be installed over a range because of the usefulness of the vent fan and lighting for over a cooking surface. However, as long as the microwave is mounted under a cabinet, leaving the space underneath the unit completely unobstructed and well ventilated, mounting over a kitchen counter should be fine.

If it sounds as though the turntable is slipping, I would suggest checking to be sure it's seated properly and there is nothing extending past the edge of the turntable that could be preventing it from turning or brushing against the side of the microwave. When you run the microwave again (be sure you are heating a plate with food, not running it empty), watch to see if the plate is turning properly. If not, your microwave may require service. I'm sorry to hear your SMK9175 is making a squeaking sound. It's possible your microwave may require service. Please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,

The instructions for making Toast is recipe #8 under "Breakfast" in the Speed Cooking guide, found on page 37 of the User Manual. Please follow the instructions on page 36 for programming the Speed Cooking recipes using the "Speed Oven Recipes" button.

Place the item you would like toasted on the high rack resting on top of the ceramic enamel tray, which is then placed on top of the glass turntable in the Speed Oven. (This is accessory configuration "F".) The toast should be turned over half-way through the cooking time.
