I had the same problem, but found that I had to push directly in the center on the slash mark, then it worked easily.

The light bulbs are in a very small enclosed space, which is why Samsung doesn't recommend bulbs greater than 40 watts. Higher wattage bulbs would generate more heat possibly causing a problem up to and including a fire.

Many owners of these microwaves complain the over the range light is too dim. I agree and I found an answer.
I found a 40 watt GE high intensity bulb Number 90401 which has the exact same unusual intermediate base to screw it into the bulb holder. I put two of these bulbs in my microwave and they are much brighter, especially on High setting. You can buy these bulbs at big box stores for about two and a half bucks each. They are a pear shape with clear glass rather than the tubular shape Samsung installs but they fit the microwave just fine.

Unless the oven is vented to the outside it will not have any draw to the steam from below. I was shocked after installing mine and had the same result with this response from Ms Samsung.

The blower needs to be re-positioned to accomodate outside or interior venting...if it was not positioned correctly it could be the issue

Happened to me too. Check the instructions and you'll find that you have to slide the vent grille to the left (about an inch.) There are three or four tabs that then slide out of slots that help hold the grille in place. Reverse the process when you put the grille back on -- takes a little patience to line up the tabs / slots, but don't force it...take your time.

FYI. There may be a problem with the installation. To install the Exhaust Adapter and Damper the instructions direct the installer to remove a screw above the vent fan (See page 12 of instructions. A1 step 1). After sliding the Exhaust Adapter into place you are instructed to replace that screw. If you do not return that screw then the vent fan will be very noisy. I made this mistake. After returning the screw (step 4), the fan noise was eliminated. Now, even on the highest setting this microwave vent fan is quieter than our previous microwave.

The SMH9187 can vent outside from the back or the top of the unit, or it can be set up to recirculate filtered air back into the room. Installation instructions are available to download through this link: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...

The cooktop light requires a maximum 40-watt light bulb.

Yes it should be for nonducting as well. When opening box you should of gotten a small charcoal filter which is for the nonducting type. I just purchased the white version and its exactly the same except for the color. You need to rotate the blower motors 90degrees before installing, then after mounting remove the 2 screws on top of the grill and slide grill to the left allowing plastic hooks which are part of the grill to become free. Pull grill off and you will have access to the charcoal filter area. Good luck hope this helps.....

The SMH9187ST comes with the charcoal filter for inside venting. The filter should be replaced every 6 to 12 months, or when it is noticeably dirty or discolored, and should not be cleaned and reused. A little more information that isn't included in the manual:
Step 2a. Open microwave door, then slide the grille to the left until it stops.
Step 2b. Pull off grille with a slight top to bottom rocking motion.
Step 4a. Insert filter with aluminum mesh side up into bracket. Filter rests on two plastic tabs with the back edge tilted up.
Step 4b. With the microwave door open, align the three tabs on the bottom of the grille with the wide area of the matching slots on the front of the microwave. Push the grille onto the microwave and slide to the right until it is flush with the sides.

The SMH9187 and SMH7187 have the same 1.8 cubic foot capacity, 1100 watts of cooking power and 400 cubic foot per minute vent power; the design of the SMH9187 is updated to match the aesthetics of the other Samsung kitchen appliances, including the ranges, refrigerators and dishwashers.

"SE" is the "Key Short Error" error code, which simply means that the key pad is not communicating with the main board. First, try unplugging the unit for 10 seconds, then plug it back in (or switch off the circuit breaker for 10 seconds, then switch back on). This should reset the unit.
