I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with your SMH9187. "SE" is the Key Short error code. Please try cycling the power by unplugging the microwave or turning the circuit breaker off then on again. If the error code returns, your microwave will require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Question

OTR Microwave Model # SMH9187B XAA - Product ID tag

ID Tag located in microwave clearly states J4LX 7MOZC00779V but the registration will only accept J4LX7M0ZC00779V as serial number. Notice in the attached picture the O after the M is a an alpha O not the numeric 0. Just frustrated me during the registration process.

I'm guessing that somehow the ID tag number was already registered accidently by someone (i.e. typo'd). There doesn't seem to be much error checking with serial number entry (i.e. they could have cross-checked with the date of manufacture, but they didn't ask for the date).

Thank you for the question. It is normal for condensation to form on the door of the microwave, especially when cooking foods with a high water content. The moisture should dissipate over time.

Question

Where is the product code found?

Product code is required to register my microwave. Mr. Samsung asks for product model, product code and serial number. For a SMH9187B, there are two choices:
SMH9187B/XAA or SM9187B/XAC.
Where do I find this code to complete the registration process?

You won't find the Product Code anywhere. XAA=USA purchase; XAC=Canada purchase. I just typed in the letters in a search engine and it came up. Samsung should put these two Codes somewhere inside on the tag.

Question

Exhausting of steam doesn't work very well.

I had the unit professionally installed. When I check the upper cabinet, there is alot of air bleeding through the cabinet above where the duct of the microwave enters the exhaust ductwork. Is there some adaper that is needed or should it simply be taped. THe installer suggested he would simply block air from coming out the cabinet.

WHen boiling water on the stove, most of the water is coming up the front of the microwave hardly any up the vent duct. The fan is at the highest level.

The installation instructions do recommend sealing the exhaust duct joints with duct tape to prevent air from escaping. I would suggest contacting your professional installer and having them evaluate their work to determine if something was missed during installation. The installation instructions can be downloaded from this website, through this link: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa.... Please note that these instructions are the same for all Samsung over the range microwaves, and are not specific to any one model, so you may need to adjust the angle of the exhaust adapter for your type of installation.

The ability of the exhaust fan to draw steam or smoke from the cooktop depends on several factors, including the proximity of the fan to the cooktop and the angle. If the microwave is mounted high up and you're boiling water on the front burners, the fan may not be able to pull the steam up into the duct as effectively, despite the powerful 400 cubic-foot-per-minute capacity. When cooking items that will tend to create a lot of steam or smoke, I would suggest using the rear burners if possible.

How do you remove the top vent grill?

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty removing the grill from your SMH9187B. After removing the two screws, you may need to slide it over to one side or the other to remove it. Try sliding it to the left, then pulling it toward you. You may need to use a bit of pressure to release it from its position.

I hope this helps!

It would be helpful to know the context of your question, since Samsung does not generally refer to our models based on "product codes". However, the model and serial numbers can be found on the inside left wall of the heating compartment of all Samsung over the range microwaves, including the SMH9187.

I hope this answers your question-

The SMH9187B has a powerful 400 cfm (cubic foot per minute) exhaust fan which can help to remove smoke and odors from the range cooktop. The venting can be set up to exhaust outside from the rear or top of the unit, or filtered air can be recirculated into the room from vents located in the front that are concealed from view.

Question

What could be wrong with the microwave (SMH9187B)

I had removed my old over-the-counter microwave and replaced it a SMH9187B. The power usage requirements are the same between the two units. The fan, lights, clocks, and other similar functions work properly, but when I try to heat/cook the food is not cooked. The timer and fan activate, but it seems like the cooking element does not engage. This is a first time use of the unit. Is there anything that I should check to determine the cause or just try to have it repaired/replace. I checked the voltage of the power recepticle and it is 120V.

Thank you for the question. When installed and functioning correctly, the 400 cfm vent fan in the SMH9187 should be able to draw smoke and steam from the cooktop to vent out the back, top or front, depending on your preferred venting. It's important to make sure that the exhaust adaptor and blower motor are angled properly for your vent set up. If, after reviewing the installation, you find that the exhaust fan on your microwave still isn't drawing smoke or steam from your cooktop, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.
