The installation instructions do recommend sealing the exhaust duct joints with duct tape to prevent air from escaping. I would suggest contacting your professional installer and having them evaluate their work to determine if something was missed during installation. The ability of the exhaust fan to draw steam or smoke from the cooktop depends on several factors, including the proximity of the fan to the cooktop and the angle. If the microwave is mounted high up and you're boiling water on the front burners, the fan may not be able to pull the steam up into the duct as effectively, despite the powerful 400 cubic-foot-per-minute capacity. When cooking items that will tend to create a lot of steam or smoke, I would suggest using the rear burners if possible.
