In order to successfully register your microwave, it's important that the model number and serial number match up in the system. To ensure you have the correct information, please refer to the tag on the inside left wall of the microwave which will show both the complete model and serial number.

For questions about the length and coverage particulars, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

You're right that the SMH8165STE and SMH8165ST are very similar; the only difference is in the handles. The SMH8165ST has a stainless-look handle, while the handle of the SMH8165STE is black.

Thank you for the question. The SMH8165STE should come with the exhaust adaptor and damper, but I would suggest visiting your local appliance, home improvement or hardware store to purchase the other parts needed to vent the SMH8165STE outside.

If you don't already have it, you can follow the link below for a downloadable pdf of the installation instructions for Samsung over-the-range microwaves: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...
Please note that these instructions are the same for all Samsung over the range microwaves, including your SMH8165, though it is important to confirm the blower is angled appropriately for your desired venting.

The charcoal filter is necessary for filtering the recirculated air. Without the filter, any odors, smoke or particles that pass through the grease filter will be circulated back into your room.

Thanks for the question. The internal fans in the microwave are designed to turn on automatically in order to prevent the internal components from overheating. It isn't unusual for it to turn on if, for example, you're using the cooktop beneath it which could cause the bottom of the microwave to heat up. If the humming is from the fan, this is normal. If the humming is caused by the microwave itself turning on, then service may be necessary. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

If the turntable in your microwave is not turning smoothly, try cleaning the bottom of the glass tray, as well as the wheel ring and the surface of the microwave itself. Residue can build up over time and cause the wheels on the ring or the glass tray to slip.

I can't tell you whether the fact that the microwave shuts off automatically is related to the crack inside, but I can tell you that it will likely require service if the inside walls are cracked. Question

Microwave SMH8165ST shows a error code of 5E is not working

I'm very sad to say that my fairly new Microwave SMH8165ST SS# j4g97mosa00177b stopped working and shows a 5E error code. I have a lot of Samsumg products and are very disappointed as the unit is less than 2yrs old. I don't plan on getting it repaired since I could almost purchase a new product when to cost of service is included.

I'm sorry to hear your SMH8165ST shows the Key Short error code, "SE". Please try cycling the power by unplugging the microwave or turning the circuit breaker off then on again. If the error code returns, your microwave will require service. I would suggest calling 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who may be able to help you determine whether this would be a cost-effective repair.

If the SMH8165STE does not appear to have power, please confirm that it is plugged into an appropriate dedicated outlet that meets the following specifications: 120V, 60 Hz, 20 amps. Try cycling the power by unplugging then replugging the microwave, or turning the circuit breaker off and on. To confirm the outlet is powered, try plugging in a different appliance (like a clock or blender) to see if it works.

If the microwave still doesn't power on, it will require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

At this time, Samsung's over the range microwaves are available in only 30" widths, and we do not have a trim kit available to fill in the gap. I would suggest contacting either the cabinet manufacturer or a kitchen designer for possible solutions.

Question

My microwave suddenly stopped working. It shut down and SE came up in the display box. Could you tell me what this means?

We had not had any problems with it (love it) and I turned off the light on it and left the room. In a few seconds I heard the vent come on by it's self. So I turned around and went back to the kitchen. Then vent stopped and it beeped 3 times and SE came up on the display. Then nothing.

Question

The microwave is model SMH8165STE. The unit starts random beeping on its own?

The microwave started beeping in the middle of the night. (In service since April 2010) The unit was not in use. Tried to clear the beeping with the cancel button. Did not work. Unplugged the power for about 10 minutes. Upon power restoration the beeping was gone for about 30 minutes and then it started up again. Unit was not being used.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by a "reset" for the microwave, and it would be helpful to know what type of issue you're having. The closest to a "reset" would probably be to cycle the power to your SMH8165ST by unplugging the microwave or turning the circuit breaker off then on again. If you had an error code, and the code returns after cycling the power, your microwave will require service.
