Question

How long will the battery last, if the phone is turned off between calls?

While I have gotten excellent service from T-Mobile, I am very disappointed in both the quality and quantity of the documentation for this smartphone. This is my very smartphone and it has been tedious.

For instance, I went to register and your webpage said to look on my phone for the serial number. There is no serial number on my phone. I searched using a magnifying glass. I entered the serial number on the Galaxy box and it worked. I also discovered that there is also a serial # that is listed on my purchase agreement.

The first thing that should be in your new documentation, is what tasks do I need to do first to transistion from my old cell phone, such as

1. Forwarding the phone number from my previous cell phone carrier to my new Gallaxy S III.

2. How to sync my webmail to my new phone.

3. How to add additional email addresses

4. Initially, I was going to make the phone number for my new Galaxy be the same as my phone number for my landline. Fortunately, a friend pointed out to me that my landline carrier would immediately shut down my landline phone and any additional features-- Call Notes, Caller ID, conferencing calling....

5. Pro's and Con's for whether to use Google Voice. Google Voice allows you to forward your landline and previous cell phone numbers to either a Google phone number or to the 'temporary" phone number assigned by T-Mobile.

6. Then in the new documentation, show how to use and whether or not there are any pro's or con's. So the first item to be covered would be

I. How to make and receive phone calls
II. How to enter a new name into the contact list.s
III. How to access and read email.
IV. How to send email
V. How to add additional email addresses that you receive email from
VI. Chat and
VII. All other features

7. How to set up your ringtone?
8. How to d/l and sync your email to the Galaxy.
9. How to add apps such as the Kaspersky SmartPhone app?
10. Descriptions of all apps
11. Top 50 apps

12. Detail any gotchas and how to address these issues.

FYI ... I am not a novice. I have worked with computers my entire career but this is a completely different UI than what I have used in the past.

Hello and thanks for reaching out!

Samsung provides online instruction manuals in a PDF format. Please copy and paste this link into your browser and it will take you to a instruction manual. http://bit.ly/MqSMO5

From there you can search, print or save the manual.

Also, here are some tips to help conserve battery life on your device:

Turn off the automatic brightness and set it to the lowest setting. The display is the biggest power user.
Select only 2G if your not using 3G or 3.5G (network settings)
Turn off bluetooth and wifi when not in use
Turn off automatic background syncing
Don't use live wallpapers
Avoid widgets that use live updates
Make sure you close apps properly by going through the menu, hitting home doesnt close apps
You can try apps like startup auditor and autokiller to kill of running background applications.
If you really wanna go crazy use a solid black wallpaper, it wont use any LEDs at all
Some Task Managers seem to work against battery saving and consume more battery doing so ending tasks at regular intervals. Monitor these applications to see if they improve or decrease battery life.
Poor signal strength decreases battery life - Try not to leave you phone in a bag or place that might inhibit the signal strength. With low signal strenght the Galaxy S will consume a larger amount of power to maintain connection with the nearest cell tower or searching for another.

If you need additional assistance please contact us again. You can also reach out to us via twitter or facebook for quicker responses.

Thank you and have a great day!

Question

Closing applications

Am enjoying my new S3 but I dont' know to close the applications (camera, calendar, maps etc) without forcefully closing them in the task manager. This is clogging up my RAM and affecting some of the applications.

Depending on the app see if when you press the menu button if there is an option exit or close application. Else the back button should be just fine in most cases. ps. Download Task Manager app from Samsung Apps for faster access to it.

There is no need to download third party apps, all you need to do is press and hold the home button and swipe away apps. And if you want to clear RAM press and hold home, click task manager, and on the top you swipe and click RAM, from there you click clear RAM. You probably won't have to do this that often though, to make things easier just press and hold home, swipe away apps or just press remove all.

Sometimes the best thing to do after a long day of usage is, at the end of the day, before bed, "Power Down" your phone not restart, "Power Down" will give it a fresh start. I tend to keep away from force closing apps.

What @fonsielovesyou said is correct. You dont need to download an app that will take up storage space on your phone (not that its going to affect storage much but still). Samsung has a built in solution which is what @fonseilovesyou said. Press and hold the menu button and swipe any appls running/open to your left to close them or press the "Remove all" as well which closes them all. :) see the picture i attached. Hope this helps.

It's actually a pretty easy process that is very easy to access. Simply by holding down the only real physical button present on the front of the phone. It will bring up a screen showing you all the current apps or programs running and simply swiping them to the right or hitting Delete All will stop them for you. Hope this Helps!

Question

SPAM notification....

I've been hit with Spam on this phone since day 1. The notification icon is on the left top corner, it look like a small * "star".
The messages are like " Your android is running slow, or, Your phone might have a virus...etc."
I'm very unhappy about this and also very upset, that FCC is creating all the stupid rules, but the still let go this harassment!
Can someone tell me how to turn this notification OFF? But I need my mail or txt notification....
Thanx!

Yes this has nothing to do with the phone and everything to do with a downloaded application. you may want to go to the play store and search for ad detector apps.. there are plenty of good ones there that will allow you to pinpoint which installed apps are spamming you so that you can uninstall

I'm having the same symptoms. However; I've noticed that only when I'm charging it and using it all at the same time, it does that. In other words, when I'm just charging it, it won't get warm/hot. But if I have a bunch of apps running and using it all at the same time as I'm charging it, it will get hot/warm. ANY electronic device would normally do this. I would suggest that when you are charging it, allow it to charge until an acceptable amount of battery life and use it while not on the charger. Also, close out certain apps when you're not using that certain app. It's like a miniature laptop is how I see it. Hope this helped some if any.

The phone gets warm when you have multiple apps open because the processor is working extra to keep those apps running. try closing unused apps and let the phone charge so it does not get too hot. i had the same problem at first, then I turn the powersave on and it help a bit.

It has happened to me as well and all I've done is three different options. First, closing all apps using the main menu button holding it down will let you delete all to the apps running which should relieve some stress on your processor. Second, turning on the power saver mode on the phone does keep it from trying to work harder than it should have to. Finally, last thing is just simply turning the device off means it will shut off any processes that may be going on in the background. I hope this helps.

I had the same problem even after removing the battery and locating the imei number it would not work. Use your phone to dial *#060# and the imei should appear yeah!!!! But wait it still does not give you the format Samsung requires, try using the first string of numbers and omit everything after that. Works? Hope so.

Ahhhh you say. I still need the date. It appears the date is sensitive to the imei number. If you look on the box the phone came in there is a date which will work, does not have to be exact but close.

Hope this helps.

Data its the one that eats a lot of battery, if you dont need to be in sync all the time, let it on but turn off the sync in the notifications bar

If you haven't done so, download Samsungs USB Device drivers from your phones support page. Click "See All Downloads" link next to the picture of your selected phone and navigate below to the "Manuals & Downloads" section and lick on it. Next click on "Software" and you should see a link names "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.v1.4.6.0)". Download and install that and it should work.

This is Samsungs specific USB drivers for their devices so it should work. You should also make sure the app Air Message is updated to its lastest software release which can be found on their page as well. Let me know if you need more help.

Hi Tamandddave,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that you would like to know where is the IMEI located on your phone, SGH-T999.

You can get the IMEI number underneath the battery and this number is always on the bar codes on the back of the phone.  When entering your IMEI, please do not include slashes or spaces.  Additionally, there are no alpha O’s – those characters are zeroes.

IMEI- The IMEI is the numeric code that is 15 characters long.

Other options to check the IMEI is through its package and proof of purchase.

Question

Headset connection

For some reason I can only hear sound from one side of my headphones, I've tried three different headphones and I still have the same problem connected to my S3. Also, I have a 3.5mm connector to my car's AUX and I only hear audio on one side. If I jiggle the connection to my S3's headset output audio is normal, but it goes back go one side after the car moves! Is anyone having this problem, or are the wires on my phone frayed?

There is a setting on the GSIII that is called mono audio, when selected, audio comes out of only the left speaker. As for the car radio, the cable might not be plugged in all the way. The fastest way I know how to get to the mono audio setting is by putting the widget on the home-screen and making sure it is not green.

Question

Microphone not working when making calls

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 that I have had a little over a month. This week I started having a problem when I make or receive a call. Everyone says it sounds like I am under water and they can barely hear what I'm saying. I have found a workaround where I can turn on the speaker phone and they can hear me. This is very annoying especially when I'm at work. Is this a common problem for this phone?

So I was having a problem with S3 mic not working unless I put it on speaker and talk loudly into the mic. Performed the factory reset at least 3 times and updated to the latest software. Still couldn't be heard on phone calls. Took it to my cell provider retail location. The associate did a soft reset (removed battery and sim card) and made sure all the settings were ok.

Then she noticed there looked like something was inside the pin sized mic opening at the bottom of the phone. She took a sewing pin and gently coaxed whatever it was out...now I can be heard crystal clear on calls.

JB 4.1 is available for Spring uses currently. However Tmobile / AT&T / Verizon are still working on them but should be released within the next few months / end of the year.

Unfortunately no one knows what the time table for the releases are until Samsun post it on their website here where they will keep it updated and post it as soon as its released: http://bit.ly/WjyniI

Hope this helps.

Are you reffering to a a text message that include attachments such as pictures or email attachements?

If in text messages, you should be able to just click on the pictures or attachment once it finishes downloading onto your phone.

If its in an email message, the email has a paperclip with the attachemnts that you should be able to see or download onto you phone and then view them.

See picture for text msg mms attachments. one shows picture attachemnt downloading, the other what it would look like once its downloaded to your comptuer and you can view it.

Let me know if this helps.
