In order to assign a ringtone to your contact you must first make sure that the contact is saved on the phones memory not on gmail. to do that go to applications>contacts>menu> export/import>export to sd card> then go back to contacts>menu>import/export>import to sd card . Once the contacts is on the phone, press and hold on the name of a contact then you will see the option to add a ringtone at the bottom part.

As far as I can tell, on my Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.1, you cannot assign a ringtone to a contact. You can assign a ringtone to a group. From the Contacts app, click on the Groups tab. Then click on the menu button [=] on the bottom and select Create Group (+). Give your group a name (e.g. Friends) and assign a ringtone to that group and click Save.

With your empty group, you can now add members to it. The members must be contacts on your phone. Contacts from your Google account will not work. I suppose you can add contacts to your phone and link them to contacts in your Google account then add the contact to your group. I have not tested this, but it might work.

It is slightly counter intuitive but does work fine.

Go to App->Media Player
Hold down the ringtone, a popup will appear
-Delete
-Share music via
-Set as
-Add to Play list

select "Set as"
-Voice call ringtone (all calls)
-Individual ringtone (overrides above)
-Alarm tone

Select "Individual ringtone". On my Vibrant the Contact list comes up but is blank (I have over 2500 Contacts). I added the person with phone number. the Contact list automatically merges it with the existing Contact.
You know have an individual ringtone.
I've done this with my family and a few friends

download the app "ringtone editor" by ringtone music. the icon will look lke a music note and a pair of scissors. it's a great app that takes your question a step further and will allow you to select the exact part of the song u want as the ringtone. if the second verse of a song is the hot one, then u can select the EXACTLY where u want the ringtone to begin and end, then choose which contact u wanna use it for. hope this helps. i had the same problem but this def took care of it.

Thank you for your inquiry. As I have checked the specification of the phone, the SGH-T959 does not have a Dial Up Networking profile that would allow the device to be used as a tethered modem for internet connectivity.

However, you may want to check with T Mobile if they have an available program or software that would allow the phone for this connection. Apart from the program, you would also be needing drivers and a data plan for the fulfillment of the process.

Thank you for your continued interest in Samsung products.

Currently, I'm a T-Mobile customer and I can "tether" my phone with my laptop. There's no additional charge for using this service. The best way you can accomplish this task (1) Go to Android Marketplace and download PdaNet or EasyTether(I'm using PdaNet)(2)You need to download the client program on your laptop.(3) Once installed, you should be able to get on the internet via your Galaxy S.

Upgrading the operating system to Android 2.2 (Froyo) provides tethering via Wi-Fi or USB without the need for downloading any additional software for either your phone or laptop. Just go to your "Wireless and network" settings and activate the appropriate settings. It works flawlessly.

Thank you for your inquiry.
I-tunes are copy written by APPLE inc. ITunes files can only be used with APPLE devices. And in some cases files that came from I-tunes has different format & your Samsung Device can’t support it. However if you want to load ITunes files on your phone, you will need to get a file converter to convert the file to MP3. You may try searching for a file converter online.
For further details regarding this phone, we advise you to visit our website www.samsung.com to check for other specifications that you may enjoy with this phone.

the other answers are right - read the owners manual - I had too to realize that it's not an led light - but a proximity sensor - if you notice, when you're talking on the handset, the screen turns off, and if you move it away from your ear, it comes back on...that "smaller box" controls that...this way you don't accidentally hit the "end call button" with your ear, etc.

As i can see you that Samsung Galaxy S Device SGH-t959 or simply called as the VIBRANT. And regarding your concern, if the phone has a camera on the front, this phone actually does not have camera on the front. The camera is only located at the back of it.

Keith,
Here's the situation, the Vibrant is a variation of the i9000, the Original Galaxy S phone launched in Asian Markets. That phone has a FFC(Front-Facing Camera). The Vibrant has the capability to support a FFC (See Canadian Mobile provider, Rogers' version of the Vibrant) , IN FACT, with a little tenacity (and know how), you could install the FFC yourself. Unfortunately, US Providers like to alter almost ALL phones before they release it. Real bummer too, because Samsung had a fine original design. Now if they can only get cracking on the Froyo Update!!!!!!!! :D

Hi!

The serial number on your Samsung Vibrant™ Android Smartphone - SGH-T959 is the IMEI number.
You can get the serial number on the box, at the inner back of the phone,by going to "About Phone" from settings or simply by dialing *#06# and the serial number will appear on your phone screen.

I have the update, and the GPS still does not work properly. I did a comparison using a G1 the other day. I took both phones outside and turned on the GPS using an application that displays how many satellites the phones are seeing. Within a few seconds the G1 locked onto 9 satellites while the Vibrant never picked up any. I finally got tired of waiting after 15 minutes and went back inside. This is after the update.

Thank you for your inquiry.

T-Mobile is sending the JI6 update over the air. To speed up the process, Samsung has released Mini Kies as a method to update the Vibrant to JI6 by connecting it to a computer.

Note: This method should not erase any information on the phone.

For instructions and Kies Mini download file, go to http://www.samsung.com/us/vibrant/softwareupdate.

To verify that the update has installed successfully, from the home screen touch Menu > Settings > About Phone and check the Baseband Version. If it is not T959UVJI6, then the update has not installed or has not completed installation.

Thank you for choosing Samsung.

Thank you for your inquiry.
The T-Mobile Vibrant (SCH-t959) has a new maintenance release, version JI6.
Note: The update process time may vary due to different download speeds.

T-Mobile is sending the JI6 update over the air. To speed up the process, Samsung has released Mini Kies as a method to update the Vibrant to JI6 by connecting it to a computer.

Note: This method should not erase any information on the phone.

For instructions and Kies Mini download file, go to http://www.samsung.com/us/vibrant/softwareupdate

You want have that problem with the Galaxy S II. Unless the phone has the original memory card with the original dcf file then the DRM (Digital Rights Management) has been corrupted and may not be recoverable. For future references test a phone thoroughly before purchasing.

windows xp does not recognize usb connection with this phone. What to do?

Phone doesn't mount, is not recognized as mass storage, and cannot be found by Windows Media Player (I am running the latest version). Why not and what can I do about it? (Please speak English, I barely know what a USB is).

I am guessing that you are choosing mount on the phone. That's the first step.

Also, what operating system (OS) (XP, Vista, Windows 7 and is it 32bit or 64bit). If you aren't sure, the start button for XP is a green oval with the word 'Start' on it. Vista and 7 have a blue circle with Windows flag. If you have the blue circle (called Windows Pearl) click it and then right-click 'Computer'. Now choose Properties. On the screen, it should tell you the operating system and whether it is 32bit or 64 bit.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. When I choose mount on the phone, the OS opens the folder automatically for the the SD card and assigns a letter and the phones internal storage and assigns the next letter after the SD card. It should show the SD and internal storage as removable disk. Do you see anything like that?

I just submitted an answer to this question and ask what OS you are using... My apologies. I just read that you are using XP... Sorry for not seeing that. and asking about Vista and 7.

So, do you see Removable disk in My Computer after you select mount? What happens when you select mount on the phone? On my Vibrant, I have it set to Mass storage in Settings >Applications > USB Settings. Might want to check that setting and try it if different.

Question

GPS on Samsung Vibrant isn't accurate at all!

VERY IMPORTANT ! I REALLY NEED YOUR EXPERIENCE / OPINION.

I just got today Sept 30th, my Samsung Vibrant, I hope that this GPS problem that I have it's just SOFTWARE and not HARDWARE problem and you can tell me with your experience / suggestions about this issue.

Before the Samsung Vibrant, I was using a HTC mytouch 3g slide, the GPS is on my slide is very accurate, what I can tell you is that from my bedroom it detects properly my home address using google maps, with samsung vibrant usually gives me UNACCURATE information using Google Maps on both phones,

I have turned on the wireless and the GPS on samsung vibrant as it was the same on my htc slide and on samsung vibrant it gives me around 40 to 50 meters innacurate or difference. I don't want to use WIFI because to get accurate results on my HTC Mytouch 3g slide I don't need WIFI also I will not have WIFI everything, so I want that it works at least the same or better what a HTC phones is providing on the GPS hardware.

Is that a hardware problem or software issue?

My HTC Mytouch 3g slide never fails where I'm in my bedroom or other place and this samsung is getting out of my nerves that isn't accurate at all.

HARDWARE or SOFTWARE problem?

If it is software I will wait, but if it is hardware, I will be very dissapointed.

Thanks I really appreciate your experiences, I have 14 days to test it and if I'm not happy with it I can return it.
