Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, you can use the front camera, this allows you to take pictures of yourself and use the video chat application. Taking pictures with your device’s built-in camera is as simple as choosing a subject, pointing the camera, then pressing the camera key.

Note: When taking a photo in direct sunlight or in bright conditions, shadows may appear on the photo.

Steps to take a Self Shot picture, please follow the steps below:

1. From the Home screen, tap Applications> Camera to activate the camera mode. Using the tablet’s main display screen as a viewfinder, adjust the image by aiming the camera at the subject.
3. If desired, before taking the photo, you can tap on-screen icons to access various camera options and settings.
4. Select Shooting mode: allows you to set the shooting mode.
5. Select Self shot: allows you to take a picture with the camera.

I have a memory card in my phone from my previous phone.

When I use it in my Capivate and change my contact list and save the changes to the phone, not the sim, when I do "Export to SD card", does the entire new contact list get exported and the original info is replaced? Or does old info get duplicated? And what about all the music, ringtones, and pictures?

Thank you for your inquiry. Once you exported your contacts to sd card, your creating a back up for your contacts. Regarding on the music, ringtones, and pictures, it is a default on the phone that it will be saved on the memory card.

is there any way to recover photos?

somehow I deleted my entire gallery with one punch of a button. I opened the gallery, tapped on the top picture, thought I deleted it, and then I couldn't find any photos in the gallery. Help!!

Are you using the same original battery and charger on the phone? Is there any physical damage? Has the phone been exposed to liquid?

Battery life

the battery life for this cell phone is roughly 2 five minutes phone calls. I can't run any apps at all. Is this the best i can expect? If so, I may have to go to another product. Samsung Captivate Galaxy. Model SGH-1897

Battery life durations specified on our products are tested in our labs under multiple different conditions and the talk and standby times are a realistic average maximum dependent on customer usage variables.
Battery power consumption depends on a number of factors, such as network configuration, signal strength, operating temperature, features selected, frequency of calls, and voice, data, and other application usage patterns.
Some variables that may affect battery life are:
• Backlight settings set to always on or a long amount of time
• Ring tone settings set to higher volume settings
• Vibrate settings turned on
• Using Internet Services including Text Messaging
• Making and/or Receiving calls in, or simply standing by in, an analog service area
• If you tend to be in a "weak" coverage area where your signal strength meter shows only 1 to 2 bars
• Using non-SAMSUNG charging accessories can cause battery life and other issues, as well as void the manufacturer’s limited warranty.

If the battery is not holding a charge it may mean that it is not charging properly. Make certain that the charger cable is properly plugged in. It is also possible that the battery may be damaged. If you suspect that it may be, or should this issue continue to occur, please feel free to call us here at Samsung Technical Support at 1-888-987-4357.

Hi, I just moved to the US from Europe and am trying to use all the functionality of my tablet. Question

Is there a problem with the phone?

I installed the Zedge app but the ringtones do not appear on the ringotne list. My Husband also has a Captivate and when accessing his ringtones there is a menu option to choose between Zedge ringtone and Android ringtones. When you pick Zedge a list appears showing the downloaded tones. My phone just shows the standard Android ringtone list. I have uninstalled and reinstalled this app and the problem still exists.

Currently there is no firmware update of the Tab which is it's not working, as of now only Mass storage can done on the phone using the Samsung USB cable that came with the phone. However, you can check on our website periodically for possible future updates of the Tab, or also your service provider may possible notified you over the air for the updates and it will be prompted on the Tab.

Thank you for your inquiry. Regarding your concern, there are no configurable options to deactivate the restriction of Android Market on your phone. Since you're trying to download an application out of Android Market most defintiely this might not work or might have compatibility issues when downloaded on the phone.Please contact your Service Provider for options about the phone limitations.

Note: Android Market is a portal for all the compatible applications that you can download on your phone.

Hi LINCOLNSARGE!

Thank you for your inquiry. There will be two major procedures to backup the files of the phone. The first one is transferring your media files like music, pictures, and videos by doing Mass Storage connection; however for this handset model it is important that there should be an external memory card inserted and making sure to use the Samsung USB cable that came in the box. You may follow these steps below.

Before connecting the phone to the computer ensure that the Memory Card is properly inserted into the device and ensure that the USB mode is set on Mass Storage:
> Tap Menu
> Tap Settings
> Tap Applications
> Tap USB settings
> Tap Mass storage even if already selected
> Tap Home key to return to the home screen

Make sure that USB debugging is unchecked:
> Select Menu
> Applications
> Select Settings
> Development
> Uncheck all three options (USB debugging, Allow mock location, Stay Awake)

Connect the USB data cable to the device and a laptop or PC
After the USB icon appears in the Notification Drawer, pull it down
Tap USB Connected
Tap Mount
On the PC, navigate to the Removable Disk assigned to the device. This can be done through the automatic pop up screen or ‘My Computer.’
Drag and drop (copy and paste) files from other locations of your PC to this folder (DCIM folder)

Note: If these steps won’t work, try to check this stuff….

Try using a different USB port
Restart the PC and soft reset the phone
Make sure that the USB cable is Samsung genuine accessory
Try to check the removable storage through the "My Computer"
Temporarily disable the firewall and antivirus of the computer

The second procedure is backing up your contacts, e-mail, and calendars. You may sync your phone over the air (wireless) with your Gmail account. You need to create a Gmail account on the computer and set up your Gmail account on the phone. Once you did that, on your phone, go to settings, accounts and sync, tap on your Gmail account, make sure that the Sync Calendar, Sync contacts, Sync Gmail are all check and then Tap Menu and tap on Sync. From there your phone will automatically sync to your Gmail account.

The Samsung Captivate does not have an LED indicator.

There is a proximity sensor/ambient light sensor on the upper left front of the phone.

Ambient Light Sensor - The ambient light sensor will report to the handset the amount of light that is near the sensor. The ambient light sensor is utilized for automatic backlight brightness.

Proximity Sensor - The proximity sensor allows the handset to perform certain functions based on objects detected near. This allows the handset to disable the touch screen while on a call to prevent unintentional activation of on screen options during a call.
