It is not NECESSARY to install anti-virus on any Android device, however it will not harm anything and on the S3 will not affect performance. Anti-virus on an Android phone in general is more or less for people who may "root" their devices. So basically, yes you should have it because a lot of them will protect you "just in case" as well as providing "anti-theft" features (depending on the software), and no, because Google screens apps themselves for malicious software. Again, it couldn't hurt though.

I think it depends on how you are using your S3. If you do not plan to modify your Android OS or install third party software that is not approved by Google Play store you should be fine. Also remember that an anti-virus will consume the battery life faster since its running on the background all the time. I hope that helps.

No I would not recommend it unles you are flashing various ROMs into the phone. The S3 has enough software alone to eliminate most apps out there on the Play Store so you should do just fine.

answer 6
Absolutely. Bad call if you don't IMHO. Even with all the inherent safety features of the GS3 and Google Play, bad apps (malware/adware) can and do sneak into the market. There are a few great choices available in the market (Lookout, Avast, TrustGo, Dr. Web) that offer round the clock protection and mobile location in case of misplacement or theft and that don't drain your battery much at all. AT&T disabled this functionality (remote control/find your mobile phone with Samsung Dive) in U.S. GS3's so you can't get Samsung Dive on it now. Regardless of whether you are altering the stock ROM or not (mine's bone stock), you need to make sure a high end device like this is protected just in case. It DOES serve a purpose to install anti-virus/anti-malware and location software. Don't get caught lacking if the issue would occur.

Personally have never seen or heard of anyone getting a virus on an Android phone. Even in all of the dev sites (XDA, etc) have not ever read of virus issues. That is not to say it won't or can't happen.

My concern would be the toll the virus protection may have on battery life and phone performance.

I updated my S3 over Kies Air downloaded on my computer AND phone. On you computer in the Kies Air app somewhere it should say update available if you don't already have it. If it does, make sure to back up anything you need then connect your Micro USB to your computer and install. The faster the internet is the faster the update goes. To install Kies and for further information on you computer go to this link: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/

Simply click on Apps > then the menu button > then uninstall. Apps that come pre-installed cannot be uninstalled here. You can also do this on the play store; simply search the app, find it, the click on uninstall. If you are trying to delete a folder created on the apps, click on the menu button, edit, then press and hold and drop in remove.

After you select burst mode, in the upper-left corner will be a button saying "Off" next to "Best shot". You need to tap that to "On" before it'll do a burst. I don't understand why it's turned off by default.

You could set your device to recognize the connection as well. After the download and installation of the required drivers, you should set your phone up for connection:
open system settings,
open Developer options
check the box next to "USB Debugging"
connect your device.
You should see an icon in your notification tray, click that and you should be good!

Question

Damaged SD Card

Today, I restarted my GS3, upon powering up, there is a notification: "Damagend SD card - SD card Damaged. you may have to reformat". Nothing has happened to the phone and the card was just fine prior to the restart. I have many priceless photos/videos that will be lost off the card.

Will this continue to happen? Is there a way to recover the SD card data?

Put it in a PC or notebook and recover the photos. The S3 does this sometimes, don't know why. You may have gotten a bad sd card to begin with, flash media is volatile somewhat and does go bad.

Hi Justin12344,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that SD card needs to be reformat on your phone, SGH-I747 and we do apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused you.

You may try performing a soft reset on the phone as a basic troubleshooting step to fix it, by taking out the battery for at least 15-30 seconds, then put the battery back in again and turn it back on to refresh the software.

You may remove SD card and reinsert it again and check if it will work.

You may also check if SD card is really damaged by trying to insert it on a laptop.

There are no configurable options on how to recover the data in SD card but if you have sync your phone with Kies, you may try restoring it on your phone.

You may use the link provided below for steps on how to restore data from Kies to your phone.

Note: Please copy and paste the entire link on the search engine.

This same issue happen to me. For no reason after a night ( New Years Eve) of taking pictures and videos, the phone gave me the same error. I wasn't able to recover the items through the phone or PC. What saved me from losing my pictures and videos , was that I use Google+ to do an instant upload of my pics and videos. This won't help now if your pics are lost, but it will save them if it happens again or if you lose or damage your phone.

I think it's only supposed to work when it's making the sound and then you turn it over. For example, if i get an email and it rings, i quickly turn it over to mute. To be honest i don't really think it's supposed to work like that however. Just for things like incoming calls.

The most accepted belief is that task killers do not help. Android is normally good about managing apps. You can help your battery life by removing unnecessary widgets and apps. Reduce the frequency of synching apps such as weather, gmail, etc. Some apps are known battery killers such as Weather Bug. Google this and you can find more. Make sure you are getting a good signal or phone will constantly search for one. Do not put phone in desk at work or you will kill battery for sure.

Good luck.

I recommend not using Advanced Task killer. There is a built in task manager in the device itself. It works great and doesn't cause any issues where ATK has caused multiple issues.

Question

Can we get specific dates on when the SG3 on AT&T is getting Jelly Bean?

Originally Samsung stated an updated will be coming in October. Now the latest press release from Samsung uses the term "months." I understand that this is "carrier" specific. But there has to be a more exact date to report.

The Samsung Galaxy SXXIVCMC will be available, at which time, AT&T should push JB to the GSIII. For monkey's sake, The Galaxy SII never actually saw the real ICS, and it reached EOL (then victim to an injunction by our good friends at Apple).

Don't expect it.

Question

Phone sync

Why is there no way to sync properly from a mac. I switched from an iPhone to the Galaxy S3 and I am severely disappointed in the sync capabilities that are available. Easy phone Sync is available in the UK but not in the US. If there is not going to be a fully supported solution shortly I will return the phone and go back to my iPhone.

This is actually called S-Beam and Android Beam and is a setting and feature, not an app. The Galaxy S III has NFC technology, and to turn on beam/NFC, go to Settings > More settings, and it should be around there. Just slide the slider to the on position.

Hi ccsdec10,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that there is no pop up for firmware upgrade when you are trying to update your SGH-I747 to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean using Kies. We do apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused you.

You may try performing a soft reset on the phone as a basic troubleshooting step to fix it, by taking out the battery for at least 15-30 seconds, then put the battery back in again and turn it back on to refresh the software.

Please restart your computer to also refresh its software.

You may try to uninstall and then reinstall again Kies on your computer.

You may use the link provided below for Kies support.
