Thank you for your inquiry.

A PUK (PIN Unlock Key) code is required to unlock SIM cards that have become locked following three successive incorrect PIN entries. If your SIM card becomes locked, you will need to get a PUK code from AT&T to unlock your SIM card.

You can obtain your phone’s PUK code from AT&T by:
• logging in to your myWireless Account online
• using our Technical Support Chat
• calling Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500

Thank you for your inquiry.
Thank you for your inquiry.
SInce the your phone is asking for the PUK code, let me give you an information regarding what PUK code means & when would be the time does the phone asks for this.
What is a PUK code?
PUK stands for Personal Unblocking Code. This acts as a security feature on your mobile. To protect you in the event of theft, the SIM card is immediately locked if someone keys in three different incorrect PIN codes in succession. This also applies if you absent-mindedly enter an incorrect PIN code three times in a row. The message "PIN locked" will appear on the screen. In this event, you can fall back on the PUK code, which comprises eight digits.
And to get your PUK code, you may need to contact AT&T regarding it.
I have AT&T toll free number & you can call them on 18003310500.
I hope this piece of information has helped you.
At your earliest convenience, please call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.

How do you answer a call? A message popped up on my phone stating "answer" - "reject". I kept tapping answer, with no results. I pushed a couple of buttons with no result. The call finally ended. I had to call the person back. Why doesn't the guide help with basics like this? How am I supposed to anwwer a call.

Hi there!

Most issues like this may be resolved with minimal troubleshooting. Once troubleshooting has been done to the point of actual failure, we can setup a repair on the handset, should it be determined the problem cannot be resolved over the phone. We can repair the phone, if it is still under warranty and has not been physically damaged.

You can go to your service provider so they can check on the phone and they can try using a different battery and charger on the phone to isolate the issue.

You can also call our Customer Care so we can do minimal troubleshooting to your phone. Once troubleshooting has been done to the point of actual failure, we can setup a repair on the product, should it be determined the problem cannot be resolved over the phone. We can repair the phone, if it is still under warranty and has not been physically damaged.

If it is deemed, after troubleshooting, that the handset requires service/repair, our Repair Administrators will create a Return Material Authorization (RMA#) for the device. Provided there is no physical damage to the phone and the failure is not due to any type of liquid damage, the phone will be repaired under warranty.

If the phone has experienced damage or is out of warranty by date (it was purchased more than one year ago) the standard charge will likely apply for the repairs to your phone. Charges start at $65.00 and can increase, depending upon the nature and severity of the issue. We are only able to arrange payment for these repairs through credit card (Visa or MasterCard).

For troubleshooting and questions related to possible repairs we invite you to contact Samsung Customer Care at your earliest convenience through our toll free number 1-888-987-HELP (1-888-987-4357).

• .mid
• .wav
• .wma

Warning: Formatting a memory card will permanently delete all current content.

To format a microSD memory card follow the steps below:

1. Insert a microSD memory card into the memory card slot, located under the battery cover
2. From the standby screen, press Menu
3. Scroll to Main Menu 3 then press Settings
4. Scroll down then press Memory Management
5. Press Memory Card Details
6. Press Format
7. Press Yes to confirm formatting the microSD Memory Card

Caution!: Do not repeatedly format a Memory Card as this shortens it's service life

Question

Update 2.2 with Kies Mini

AT&T has released information that Samsung will have the 2.2 update for Android/Captivate available tomorrow. If this update requires Kies Mini, then I have a problem. I've never been able to get the Kies Mini to work, as Win7/Service Pack 1/Dell Inspirion 640M laptop advises "kies mini launcher has stopped working". I'm using a 32bit OS. Can you please advise if the update will require Kies Mini, and if so, what I need to do to get around the launcher problem.

How do I block text messages from a specific number?

I have a Samsung Mythic - i know how to block calls from a contact, but i have some numbers that keep texting me.. I don't know anyone from these numbers so i'd like to be able to block them from sending texts. I saw a couple of sites where they said to go to Messaging, then settings.. but there are no "settings" under my messaging feature... I don't see anything under Tools, etc.. so IS there a way to block numbers that are only texting?

answer 1
Hi, BANPAN!

There are four different ways to transfer files between your SGH-a897 (Mythic) handset and computer. And those are via New Samsung PC Studio, via Windows Explorer (mass storage), via Memory card and via Bluetooth. Each method will be discussed below.

>Via the New Samsung PC Studio

Important!: The Bluetooth feature must first be disabled before initiating a USB connection with the handset. Prior to connecting the USB cable to the handset, install the latest version of the Samsung PC Studio application. This application installs the necessary USB drivers onto your PC. For a free download of PC Studio, go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/supportDownloadCenter.do?prd_ia_cd=N0000003&prd_mdl_cd=SGH-A897RBAATT&prd_mdl_name=SGH-A897

Note: The SGH-A897 (Mythic) phone includes support for Digital Rights Management (DRM) which allows you to play or view some purchased or subscription content. These copyright protections may prevent some images, videos, music (including ringtones) and other content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded.

WARNING: DO NOT DISCONNECT USB CABLE DURING THE FILE TRANSFER

STEPS:

1. From the standby screen, insure that the USB mode setting is set to either PC Studio or Ask on Connection

• From the standby screen, press Menu
• Press Settings
• Press Connectivity
• Press Select USB Mode
• Press Samsung PC Studio
• Press Save to keep the USB Mode setting

2. Connect the USB cable to both the phone's Power/Accessory Interface connector & the PC's USB slot

 When successfully connected, the phone will show the connected icon on the top of the display

3. If prompted, select the PC Studio USB setting
4. The New Samsung PC Studio program will automatically appear on the PC
5. Click on the SGH-A897 icon , located in the top right corner, to open a box showing the handset's internal memory
6. Double click on the Pictures or Videos folder (Internal Memory)
7. Click on the My Computer icon, located in the upper left corner, to open a box showing the PC’s internal memory
8. Navigate to the PC's picture or video location or destination
9. Drag and Drop or Copy (or Cut) and Paste the pictures or videos between the My Computer box and the SGH-A897 box or vice versa

>Via Windows Explorer (Mass Storage)

Note: If the Bluetooth feature is currently active on the phone, USB communication between devices will not be available. To transfer files to or from the phone, turn off the Bluetooth functionality.

Important: In order to transfer pictures (via Windows Explorer & a USB cable) to a PC the pictures MUST be located on a formatted microSD Memory Card. The microSD memory card must first be formatted, by the phone, in order for the handset to create the destination folders.

TO FORMAT MEMORY CARD:

• Insert a microSD memory card into the memory card slot, located on the right side under the battery cover
• From the standby screen, press Menu
• Press Settings
• Scroll down then press Memory Management
• Press Memory Card Details
• Press Format
• Press Yes to confirm formatting the microSD Memory Card

Caution!: Do not repeatedly format a Memory Card as this shortens it's service life

Note: The minimum size limit for the microSD memory card is 32MB. This phone does support the use of a microSDHC 16GB capacity memory card. However, for optimal performance Samsung recommends using a card no larger than 2GB.

To transfer Picture/Video files, using Windows Explorer & a USB cable, between the phone and a PC follow the steps below:

1. From the standby screen, insure that the USB mode setting is set to either Mass Storage or Ask on Connection

 From the standby screen, press Menu
 Press Settings
 Press Connectivity
 Press Select USB Mode
 Press Mass storage
 Press Save to keep the USB Mode setting

2. Connect the USB cable to both the phone's Power/Accessory Interface connector & the PC's USB slot
When successfully connected, the phone will show the connected icon on the top of the display
3. If prompted, select the Mass Storage USB setting
4. If prompted, click "Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer" on the new Removable Disk screen or open Windows Explorer manually
5. Navigate to the picture/video file location on the memory card or PC
6. Drag n Drop or copy & paste the picture/video file into the desired destination on the PC or the Pictures or Videos folders on the handset.

>Via Memory Card
To transfer pictures (via a memory card) to a PC requires a microSD Memory Card, Memory Card Adaptor & Memory Card Reader. The microSD memory card MUST first be formatted, by the phone, in order for the phone to create the destination folders. Please note that the minimum size limit for the microSD memory card is 32MB.
Note: This phone will support the use of a microSDHC 16GB capacity memory card. However, for optimal performance Samsung recommends using a card no larger than 2GB.

To Format memory card:

1. Insert a microSD memory card into the memory card slot, located on the right side under the battery cover
2. From the standby screen, press Menu
3. Press Settings
4. Scroll down then press Memory Management
5. Press Memory Card Details
6. Press Format
7. Press Yes to confirm formatting the microSD Memory Card

12. Remove the microSD memory card from the memory card slot

15. Insert the memory card reader into the USB slot on the PC
16. Navigate to the desired Photo/Video destination location, using Windows Explorer, then paste the Photo(s)/Video(s) into the destination on the PC

>Via Bluetooth

Note: Both Bluetooth devices MUST support Bluetooth FTP (File Transfer Profile)

To transfer (via a Bluetooth adaptor) Photo/Video files, from the Samsung SGH-A897 (Mythic) phone, to a PC follow the steps below:
On the Samsung SGH-A897 (Mythic) phone
1. From the standby screen, turn Bluetooth On

• Press Connectivity
• Press Bluetooth
• Press the Bluetooth icon below to enable or disable Bluetooth

• Note: When enabled, the handset will show the Bluetooth icon at the top of the display

2. Change the phone’s Bluetooth visibility to On

• From the standby screen, press on Menu
• Press on Settings
• Press on Connectivity
• Press on Bluetooth

Hi sony11111111111111111,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that you were having concerns on registering you phone on our Samsung website. We do apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you.

Samsung recommends using “Internet Explorer” for this process, as other browsers can encounter difficulties with serial number acceptance and other box field to fill up. You may follow the steps below to register your product on our website:

1. Go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/register/product
2. Enter the model number of your phone on the "Enter Model Number or Model Name" field.

Note: The model code can be found at the back of the phone underneath the battery.

3. The "Log In to My Samsung” page would then appear. For non-existing Samsung account click on “Create a Samsung Account”. Fill out the necessary fields on the boxes and then click on Submit. For existing Samsung account, enter the registered Email account and password.
4. You will be prompted to enter the HEX/ IMEI number and this is will be the serial numbers. You can get the IMEI/HEX number underneath the battery and this number is always on the bar codes on the back of the phone. When entering your HEX/ IMEI, please do not include slashes or spaces. Additionally, there are no alpha O’s – those characters are zeroes.

IMEI- The IMEI is the numeric code that is 15 characters long. (For AT&T, T-Mobile, and GSM TracFone, Net10, and StraightTalk handsets, as well as generic GSM handsets)

HEX- The Hexidecimal ESN is the alphanumeric code that is 8 - 14 characters in length. (For Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, Cricket, Clear, Helio, Jitterbug, MetroPCS, Qwest, Trumpet, US Cellular, Virgin Mobile, and CDMA TracFone, Net10, and StraightTalk handsets, as well as generic CDMA handsets)

Note: After filling the box with the HEX/IMEI number, do not press any key on the keyboard and wait for the website for a minute or two to accept the HEX/IMEI. Once it's been accepted, below the HEX/IMEI box field the manufactured date will be then displayed.

5. Fill out the other box fields and then click on "SUBMIT". The product should then be displayed on the "My Account" page once successfully registered.
