I had the same issue. I realized that if you close the phone prior to receiving the "message sent" conformation, the next time you try to send a message, it will fail. I wait till I get the conformation before I close the phone and it works every time. I hope this helps

Hi there.

Try doing a soft reset by turning off the phone, then remove the battery and put it back in and power on the phone again.

Hi DHaefner!

Thank you for your inquiry.

To initiate a voice command session follow the steps below:

1. From the home screen, press on Menu
2. Press My Stuff
3. Press Tools
4. Press Voice Recognition
5. Speak one of the following Voice Recognition “Say a Command” options to initiate a session:

◦Call (Name or #)
◦Send Message (Name or #)
◦Lookup (Name)
◦Go To (Menu)
◦Check (Item)

When it recognizes one of these commands, the handset launches the associated application. If Voice Recognition does not hear a command within approximately eight seconds, it deactivates voice recognition without taking any action.

Note: If a name has only a single number, or if you know the name but are not sure which number to call, say “Call” followed by the name only. For example, say “Call John.” If the name is recognized and there is only one number for the name, Voice Recognition immediately places the call. If there are multiple numbers stored for the contact, the phone prompts you with “Which Location?” and displays a list of options. Select an option by speaking it into the microphone or pressing the location.

There appears to be no software solution, but you can pry the button out of the phone and snip off the little protrusion that actually pushes against the real switch in the phone. Of course, this is a permanent method, and you would have to procure a new button if you decided at a later date to use PTT.

Here's how I did it... Pry the button off the outside of the phone. Be carefull! I used a small electronics screwdrive. Clip off the little pushrod on the backside of this button. Push the button back onto the case (rounded corners on the bottom). Now you can push that button forever and nothing happens! I accidently push this button all the time, what a nuisance! No problem now...

You may try doing the soft reset on the phone by taking out the battery for at least 10-15 seconds and then put the battery back in and evaluate it. Hi CraigAdkins!

Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding your concern, for you to transfer music between the Samsung Rugby™ ll Cell Phone (SGH-A847) and a computer, it would require you to have a compatible USB data cable, a microSD memory card inserted on the phone and download the Samsung New PC Studio for the SGH-A847 on your computer.

For you to download the Samsung New PC Studio on your computer:

1. Deactivate the antivirus and firewall on your computer.
2. Open the web browser and then log on to this link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/supportDownloadCenter.do?prd_ia_cd=N0000003&prd_mdl_cd=SGH-A847ZAAATT&prd_mdl_name=SGH-A847

3. Click on the software tab and then download the compatible driver for the type of OS on your computer.
4. Save the driver on your desktop.
5. Once download is complete, double click on the EXE file and click on Run.
6. Follow the procedure to install it.

If the microSD memory card came from another phone and you could not saved any files on it. Try to format the microSD memory card using your phone so that the phone will recognize the microSD memory card inserted in it.

To format microSD memory card using the SGH-A847 handset:
1. Insert a microSD memory card into the memory card slot, located under the phone battery.
2. From the standby screen, press the right soft key for Menu.
3. Select My Stuff.
4. Highlight the On Card tab, using the left or right navigation keys.
5. Highlight Audio, Pictures, or Videos, using the navigation keys.
6. Press the left soft key for Options.
7. Select More.
8. Select Memory Card Settings.
9. Select Format.
10. Press the left soft key for Yes to confirm formatting the microSD Memory Card.

Note: This action will erase the SD card in the phone. You will lose all data on the card.

Connecting the phone to the computer:
1. Change the USB settings on the SGH-A847 handset:
a. From the standby screen, press the left right key for Menu.
b. Select Settings.
c. Select Connectivity.
d. Choose Select USB Mode.
e. Highlight the PC Studio or Ask on Connection.
f. Press the left soft key for Select to save the USB Setting.
2. Connect the USB data cable between the phone and a computer port, and if prompted, select PC Studio.
3. Open Samsung New PC Studio on your computer and wait until the model of the phone appear on the PC studio window.
4. Navigate the Samsung New PC Studio to find the information you want to transfer between the computer and the phone.

Note: Please make sure that Bluetooth is disabled and the phone is in idle mode.

Should you desire additional assistance resolving this, we invite you to call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.

Hi sufan1962,

Thank you for your inquiry.

You can use the volume buttons if you intend to adjust the ringer/voice volume. These buttons allows you to adjust the ringer volume in standby mode or adjust the voice volume during a call. To mute the ringer during an incoming call, press the up or down volume key. The volume keys can also be used to scroll up or down to navigate through the different menu options.

Hi deniseg1!

Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding your concern, upon checking the specifications and settings on the Samsung Rugby™ ll Cell Phone (SGH-A847), there are no configurable options available to assign specific message alert tone for a contact. We can only assign a ringtone for a contact for voice calls.

Again, we thank you for comments and appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Question

Ringtone file extentions?

I have several files that I want as Ringtones. Mp3, Acc/MP4, and *.wav files won't work.

What file extention are you using for the Rugby II.

File Formats being used now are MP3, WAV, MIDI, you have to have a MicroSD Memory card to store your Ringtones. Note: Ringtones cannot exceed 300K each.

Hi Pepo!

Thank you for your inquiry.

For you to use an MP3, AAC and WMA file as a ringtone for your Samsung Rugby II, you may need to make sure that the maximum bit rate would be 320 kb and the ringtone file size would be 300 kb. Question

I have the volume all the way up to 7 and it is still not loud enough sometimes.

Is there some kind of filtering that is interferring with the volume? Is there another way or "fix" to increase the volume?

For troubleshooting, you may try to set a different ringtone on the handset. It might be the type of tone you have chosen or the phone itself.

However, if you pertain to the tone that’s like ascending when your phone rings, then it is a default on the phone due to the fact that Samsung is avoiding acoustic shock to our valued customers.

Should you desire additional assistance for more troubleshooting steps, we invite you to call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357 between the hours 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.
