Hi there!

There is no configurable option on the settings of the Rugby II for that kind of functionality. It was configured that way to save battery life.

Note: You can just use the buttons on the side of the phone to activate the front display, to view the time.

Hi mrweiss!

Thank you for your inquiry. There is no configurable option to clear the "Recent text message Log" it is a default on the phone to check your recent messages, it only overwrite the recent text messages when you send again a text message to the recipients. However, this is not the dead end of the handset features, regarding with the issue, you can check on our website from time to time for possible future updates of the handset.

Please follow the steps below on how to copy contacts from phone memory to SIM card :

1. While in standby mode, press the right soft key for Menu
2. Select Address Book (8)
3. Select Contacts (1)
4. Highlight the desired contact entry, stored in the handset's memory, using the navigation keys
5. Press the left soft key for Options
6. Select More (9)
7. Select SIM Management (4)
8. Select either Copy Contacts to SIM (1) or Copy Contacts from SIM (2)
9. Highlight each contact, using the navigation keys, press the key to Check the box(es) or Check All
10. Press the left soft key to Copy the Contact(s) to or from the SIM card

If you intend to use the phone overseas, you have to coordinate with your service provider and get the subsidy code (network control key) that would allow you to unlock the phone from their network.

It's the discretion of the network provider to provide this code and we highly recommend that you call them so you can get details regarding this matter.

Regarding about your concern, you can transfer contacts saved on the SGH-A837 handset to your computer, and then using MS Outlook 2003 or 2007, import/export the contacts saved on your phone.

For you to connect the phone to the PC and transfer contacts, it would require you to have USB data cable, with part number: APCBU10BBEBSTD and also download on your computer the driver for the SGH-A837 handset, which is the Samsung New PC Studio.

For you to download the Samsung New PC Studio on your computer:
1. Deactivate the antivirus and firewall on your computer.
2. Open the web browser and then log on to this link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/supportDownloadCenter.do?prd_ia_cd=N0000003&prd_mdl_cd=SGH-A837DKAATT&prd_mdl_name=SGH-A837

3. Click on the software tab and then download the compatible driver for the type of OS on your computer.
4. Save the driver on your desktop.
5. Once download is complete, double click on the EXE file and click on Run.
6. Follow the procedure to install it.

For you to connect the phone to your computer, follow the procedures on this link below.

The handset is only compatible with Windows Explorer. Samsung does not offer a Data Kit software package, for the purpose of transferring data between the SGH-A837 handset and mac computer.

However, if you have a memory card reader on your computer and a microSD memory card, you can transfer music files using mass storage via memory card.

At your earliest convenience, please call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.

However, if you intend to unlock the phone for a different network carrier, you may call your Service Provider and ask for an 8-digit subsidy code (Network Control Key) and the instructions on entering this on the phone.

EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY sgh-a837 RUGBY

i have been use my sgh-a837 (RUGBY) for past how many months flawlessly txt call and everything in between. then one day it wont let me make calls texts basically everything got to do with a service provider. it got a full signal bars but still it wont let me call. i tried a new sim but its the same thing i tried to look for the service provider im using but it cant be found, i tried it with my sgh-d407 it found the service provider. is there any suggestion you can give me. i already did the master reset and its still the same. its still on warranty IMEI 3579202674889/2 06 got it from att about march-april 2010

There will be no configurable option to turn off 3G on the phone as it is a network dependent service.

However, you can make the battery life longer by setting the backlight to a shorter amount of time, put ring tones to lower volume settings and turn off vibrate settings.

Regarding about your concern, upon checking the specifications and settings on the Samsung Rugby® Cell Phone (SGH-A837), there is no configurable option to disable the functionality of the camera button. This is the default settings of the phone.
