From what i can tell, if you use T9, you can't turn off the auto correct. I have tried before and just gave up on it. The only way I can see is to turn off T9. To do this, open a new text, hit Options > Text mode > Multitap. If you normally use the slide out keyboard, then you really don't need T9 on, and you won't notice any difference with it turned off, except that it won't auto-spell for you. You can now make all the trendy mis-spellings you please!
If you use the keypad on the face for texting, then you have to do that multitap garbage, or just suffer with T9 fixing your errors, and not recognizing some words. You can program in new words just like most other phones. I had to teach mine all the swear words. ...and "taco," for some reason none of my phones have ever recognized the word "taco." This is a big inconvenience for me. I use that word very frequently.
I wish this phone could remember separate settings for different input modes. I prefer T9 for the face keys, and multitap for the keyboard, and I have to change it manually whenever i switch from one to the other.
