You need to determine if this is caused by the scanning or the printing. Since the problem is described as a "Black Line down the page", most likely the problem is from scanning. (printing problems will more likely be light black color, dim areas, or other streaking over larger areas not lines). These extraneous lines or streaks on scanned items are typically caused by dirt, dust, smears or scratches on the scanner glass. In machines with automatic document feeders (ADFs), there are two "glass" areas; the flatbed scanner and the ADF scan window. The dirt/dust/smears can be on the top-side of either area and can be cleaned with a lint-free cloth and rubbing alcohol. Be careful when wiping on either area to not create scratches. However the dirt/dust/smears could be on the under-side of either area. This will require a service technician to get access inside the machine. Of course scratches will require more involved service also.

If this only happens when you print a scanned page, then you should clean the scanning glass first. If you're scanning from the document feeder, clean it as thoroughly as possible. If the line doesn't go away after cleaning as thoroughly as possible, the printer probably needs service.

Question

What sofware came on the cd? Where can I get it?

I wanted to install the software for the printer on my netbook but it does not have a cd drive. I downloaded some things and installed it but its the the same software that was on the cd that was put on my desktop.

The website has all of the same drivers and software needed for the unit. However, the website will have the most recent versions of the drivers and software.

The PDF option is available on the actual printer in the printer setting from the Menu button.

Does the print screen button on SCX-4623/XAA work?

Have loaded disk with drivers, etc...hit print screen button but does not print the screen. Does this printer have this capability? What process is used to make the print screen button work?

Yes, the print screen button works if the Smart Panel driver is installed.

Smart Panel (Driver) (ver.1.25.01)

Press the print screen button, then press the start button.

I love this feature. Use it all the time.

ADF keeps getting jammed - HELP PLEASE

As noted above, this has been an ongoing issue since we bought the machine, but in recent weeks almost every single fax we send out gets jammed in the ADF (auto document feeder).

While for single page faxes we can use the glass for faxing or copying, we often have 2-3 page faxes/copies that must be sent/copied.

I've tried checking for dirt on the rollers and in the pathway of the paper, but this did not help, as there was little dirt or dust to begin with.

It almost seems that the rollers are not grabbing the paper well enough, OR there is a piece missaligned and the paper is hitting that obstruction, I'm not certain, but the ONLY way to get the ADF to work is to actually help PUSH the paper through as it is pulling it in.

The machine probably is used to fax perhaps 1-5 times a day (only Monday - Friday) and copies are only made perhaps 1-5 times a week.

Should this machine be that worn after only around 2 years of light-medium useage? I will also remind you that this has been an ongoing issue since we bought the machine, it just has progressively gotten more and more regular of a problem.

While holding the tray, we recommend you place your wrists along the rear edge of the scan area on either side and feed the left hinge in first without pushing it all the way in. With some controlled force, it is possible to guide the right hinge in as well without causing any damage to the unit. We tried it here multiple times. It's a bit tough, but with the right amount of elbow grease, it can be done.

My samsung 4623f is giving off loud high-pitched squeaks while printing.

It is still working well and it says to prepare a new cartridge. It never made sounds like this before. Can it be easily repaired? Is there anything to lubricate?

Question

I purchaed the SCX-4623F about 3 months ago. I am having problems with faxing.

Either no pages fax and or 1 or 2 pages fax. On screen says redialing and the one page will fax again and not the other pages.
What is the problem and how I can I fix it?
Can I reset something?

There's a few things to check.

1) Are you using VoIP telephone line? (VoIP lines send the calls over your internet connection...Vonage is the most common example) If so then you will definitely have problems sending or receiving faxes due to the compression on the line.
2) Does this happen with just sending, or receiving also?
3) Does this happen with all fax numbers, or just specific ones? If it works fine on one and not another, the problem is likely on the other end.

It's also entirely possible the fax modem may be defective and need service. If you need more help I suggest you call 1-800-SAMSUNG and talk to an agent; they can do more in-depth troubleshooting to determine the cause.

Unfortunately no. Cell phones don't support the DTMF tones needed for analog fax transmissions.If you can't get access to an analog line for your machine, your best bet is probably to look at an internet fax service.

Question

Software Freezes When Detecting Printer

Installed the software, hit "I agree" to the agreement, selected USB or Networking (tried both), software tries to detect the printer and freezes.

The computer doesnt freeze, just the samsung printer installation software.

I am running Windows 7 with all the updates and have turned off all security software and the windows firewall.

Any suggestions?
