Question

How can I get the printer to work through my wi-fi?

I have just installed this printer through my wi-fi yet I cannot get it to print. I am getting a message that says "The port is not connected. Check it." The printer dialog says the printer is offline, yet apparently the installation was successful. I need this printer to work through my wi-fi because it sits far away from my laptop. HELP!

The firmware update has been re-released and I installed it today. It is still a .zip package and the update file (.hd) needs to be dragged onto the .exe file. Just make sure to stand by the printer after the update completes. You will be told to reset the printer (as far as I know this means turn it off & back on) and you will then see the date & time screen. You will need to manually enter them both and then it seems the update is complete. Part of setting the time includes changing the AM to PM if necessary. Just press the 7 key to make it PM.

The answer provided is bogus. Worthless. The latest firmware update comes down as a .zip, which unpacks 4 files. The pertinent files are SCX3405F_V3.00.01.19.hd and usblist2.exe. Instructions provided in the PDF file say to drop the .hd file onto the .exe file. I have done this several times - and gone so far as to disconnect EVERY USB device except the printer and the firmware update still fails with "Image Error" message displayed on the printer panel. The previous firmware update (V3.00.01.17) was released as an executable (.exe) and worked perfectly the first time I ran it. Maybe you (Samsung) should release this latest update as an executable.

I downloaded the Samsung Mobile Print app, but that doesn't seem to allow me to print emails from my iPhone or iPad using my new Samsung printer. I've printed emails from my mobile devices on other wifi printers. Is there a way to do so with this device?

Thank you for contacting Samsung. A printer that is offline means that it is turned off or unconnected to the PC viewing it. We suggest you remove and add the printer back.

1. Click Start button
2. Choose 'Devices and Printers'
2. Right click on the appropriate printer
4. Choose 'Remove printer'

Question

Power on startup.

I really like this printer, and all of its functionality. However, I purchased it to outfit a mobile office. I tried to find out the power usage before making the purchase, but your information on the printer only lists general power draws. It does not give any figures on peak power draw. Evidently on startup, the printer draws a lot of power.

I'm using a 1600 watt power inverter, and the printer trips it (causing a peak draw probably double the 1600 watts of the inverter).

With the information you give in the specifications for the printer I should be able to run the printer from a 400 watt inverter.

If I am incorrect with any of this information, please let me know, but I am faced with having to purchase an inkjet printer for the job.

Thank you for contacting Samsung. The printer draws 850 watts at peak due to the fuser warming up. Also, we don't recommend using a modified sine wave inverter, as that kind of inverter can cause power losses such as these on high drain power sources.

Double-Sided Printing

Has anyone gotten this to work? I know there is no automatic double-sided printing, only manual. But there is no option in the printer settings or on screen prompting for manual double-sided printing. Is it really this complicated?

It is really up to you, it is a "quick start up app" for the Samsung print monitor found in start-up programs added by the Samsung printer software, the printer will work fine without it, using the native windows system dialog. Can be turned off and on in the start-up tab of msconfig using the run command from the start menu and typing "msconfig" or "msconfig.exe

Can Not Connect

I have gone thru the setup process without a glitch until I tried to print a test page. It will not do so. A dialog box showing me printer model number and the IP address (192.168.1.117) issued tells me that the "Port is not connected". What is the problem? This printer is driving me crazy!

Printer opens up "Save Output as" popup

I just bought SCX-3405FW Multi-Function Printer. I have installed the software and my printer is connected to my wireless home network.

Every time I hit print, select the right printer, it opens up "Save Output as" window instead of printing.

Click Start > Devices and Printers and then right-click on your printer and select Set as Default Printer. Based on your description, it sounds like the Microsoft XPS Document Writer is currently set as the default printer.

Your printer is not able to print transparencies. Also the improper type of transparencies can melt inside your printer causing internal damage.

Question

Can't install drivers

I have spent the better part of the day trying to install the drivers for this printer (SCX-3405FX) on a Windows XP laptop. I have tried every print driver on the support website and every installation fails at the very end of the installation. I see a brief message saying the driver failed and then a dialog box that says it was successful. There is no printer in the print folder other than the Journal Note Writer and the Microsoft XPS Document Writer. I have had no issues in the past installing other printers on this computer. I did successfully install the drivers on a Windows 7 x64 machine (same network) without any issues. Any ideas?!

Question

How do I change the 2 UP default copy option to Normal?

This must be such an easy question that is why I can't find any reference to it.

I have tried through the keypad to change the default 2 UP Copy option on a page to the Normal ONE ON A PAGE.

I can change the copy default to Normal and it will stay a while and then goes back to the 2 UP. What am I doing wrong? Can I change this default through the keyboard or is it strictly a keypad option only?

Thank you for contacting Samsung. The default setting of toner saver or eco mode is to go with a 2 UP setting. There is no way to change this default. In order to not have the copier default to the 2 UP setting, please turn off toner save or eco mode.

My SCX-3405 randomly disconnecting from network

My SCX-3405 seems to be randomly disconnecting from the Wi-fi network. I'm able to restore connectivity by attaching the printer by cable to a computer and re-entering the wireless network key. But why is it dropping off in the first place?
