Question

Can this phone power on without the battery installed?

I'm having trouble with my phone. It said that it had an unsupported battery installed and to consult the manual. I don't see anything about this issue in the manual. Suggestions? I'm using that manufacturer's original battery that came with my phone 18 months ago.

Is it possible to power the phone without the battery installed? I tried plugging it in and get the opening Verizon screen for a few seconds, and then nothing. I'm trying to figure out if this is a phone processor/software issue or if I simply have a worn out battery.

Question

How do I set a mp3 music file as my ringtone?

I have put mp3 music on my phone using a memory card, but I cannot figure out how to set a mp3 as my ringer. The ringers that the phone came with all give me anxiety attacks so if there is no way to set mp3s as the ringer is there any other method of getting new ringers that I don't have to pay for?

Hi leanneotte1!

Thank you for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, upon checking the specifications and settings on the Samsung Reality™ Touchscreen Cell Phone (SCH-U820), there are no configurable options to assign MP3 music as a ringtone for incoming calls.

You may contact your network provider for the compatible ringtone you may download on the SCH-U820 handset.

Again, we thank you for comments and appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hi harnessk!

Thank you for your inquiry.

Apparently, we do not have any available software nor drivers that you would be needing for you to connect the phone to the computer.

If you are going to transfer pictures between the Samsung Reality™ Touchscreen Cell Phone (SCH-U820) and a computer, you may do mass storage so you could transfer them to the computer. For you to connect the phone to the computer, it would require you to have the memory card inside the phone and a compatible USB data cable. Once you have the requirements, please follow the steps below:

If the microSD memory card came from another phone and you could not saved any files on it. Try to format the microSD memory card using your phone so that the phone will recognize the microSD memory card inserted in it.

To format a memory card follow the steps below:
Note: This action will erase the SD card in the phone. You will lose all data on the card.
1. Insert a memory card into the memory card slot.
2. From the standby screen, press Menu.
3. Press Settings & Tools.
4. Scroll down then press Memory.
5. Press Card Memory.
6. Scroll down then press Format Card.
7. Press Yes to confirm Formatting the Memory Card.
Caution: Do not repeatedly format a Memory Card as this shortens its service life.

Connecting the phone to your Computer:
1. Connect the USB data cable to both the PC and handset.
2. From the home screen, press Menu.
3. Press Settings & Tools.
4. Press Tools.
5. Scroll down then press USB Mass Storage.
6. The display will now show "Connected to the PC..." Calls Disabled".
7. The PC will now show a new removable disk in Windows Explorer.
8. Select the desired action (such as Open folder to view/copy files) and click OK.
9. After copying selected files from the PC to the microSD card, inserted in the phone, touch DISCONNECT on the phone to restore phone service then touch Yes to confirm.

Note: Make sure Bluetooth is disabled and the phone is in idle mode.

Should you desire additional assistance resolving this, we invite you to call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding your concern, there is no need to install any software on the computer for you to connect the handset with your PC. All you need to have is a memory card inside the handset and a data cable then set the phone to mass storage.

To connect the phone to the computer, please follow the steps below:
Pull out and up the memory card slot cover
Insert the formatted microSD card into the memory card slot
Connect the USB data cable to both the handset and the USB port on the PC
If Select USB Mode appears on the display press the clear key to return to the standby screen OR if the MTP Connect to the PC... appears on the display, press OK then with Yes highlighted press OK to disconnect from the PC
From the standby screen, press OK for Menu
Select Settings & Tools
Select Tools
Select USB Mass Storage
From the PC, double click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop
Double click on the newly created drive letter (which may appear as an icon or text, depending on your View settings)
Double click on the folder to view the contents
Copy and paste or drag n drop the files to/from the destination on the PC
From the handset, press OK for Disconnect
With Yes highlighted, press OK then remove the USB data cable from both the handset and PC
