Question

How do I put my own ringtones on a SCH-U640

I have made ringtone MP3 clips using Audacity. The files they came from are not copyrighted. How do I get them as ringtones on my phone?

Hi!

MP3 ringtones are limited to those downloaded from the Verizon Media Store. Although the handset offers the ability to playback MP3 files, synchronized to the memory card or phone, there are no configurable options available to assign those MP3 files as ringtones.

For further assistance with downloaded MP3 files contact your service provider.

Please Note: The Music Player does not necessarily support all features of a particular file format nor all the variations of those formats. The Music Player includes support for Digital rights Management (DRM) which allows you to play some purchased or subscription content. Copyright protections may prevent some images, videos, music (including ringtones) and other content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded.

You can go to your service provider so they can check on the phone and they can try reflashing the phone.

You may also call Samsung Customer Support, so we can do minimal troubleshooting to your phone. Once troubleshooting has been done to the point of actual failure, we can setup a repair on the product, should it be determined the problem cannot be resolved over the phone. We can repair the phone, if it is still under warranty and has not been physically damaged.

If it is deemed, after troubleshooting, that the handset requires service/repair, our Repair Administrators will create a Return Material Authorization (RMA#) for the device. Provided there is no physical damage to the phone and the failure is not due to any type of liquid damage, the phone will be repaired under warranty.

For troubleshooting and questions related to possible repairs we invite you to contact Samsung Customer Care at your earliest convenience through our toll free number 1-888-987-HELP (1-888-987-4357).

Hi there!

Apparently, we do not have any available software nor drivers that you would be needing for you to connect the phone to your computer.

As of the moment, Samsung is unable to speculate when/if this software might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.

Should this become available, it will be posted on Samsung website in the Samsung Download Center.

For you to connect the phone to the computer, it would require you to have the memory card inside the phone.

If the microSD memory card came from another phone and you could not saved any files on it. Try to format the microSD memory card using your phone so that the phone will recognize the microSD memory card inserted in it.

To format a microSD memory card follow the steps below:
1. From the standby screen, press OK for Menu.
2. Highlight Settings & Tools.
3. Select Memory.
4. Select Card Memory.
5. Press the right soft key for Options.
6. Select Format Card.
7. Highlight Yes, using the navigation keys.
8. Press OK to confirm formatting the microSD memory card.

Note: Formatting the microSD memory card will delete all information saved on your memory card. I will suggest backing up first your files saved on the microSD memory card.

To transfer files, using the Mass Storage option, follow the steps below:
1. Insert a formatted memory card into the memory card slot.
2. From the standby screen, press the OK key for Menu.
3. Select Settings & Tools.
4. Select Tools.
5. Connect the USB cable to both the phone's Power/Accessory Interface connector & the PC's USB slot.
6. Select USB Mass Storage.
7. When successfully connected, the phone will show Connected to the PC... and Call Disabled on the display.
8. If prompted, click "Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer" on the new Removable Disk screen or open Windows Explorer manually.
9. Navigate to the location of the files on the PC.
10. Drag n Drop or copy & paste the file(s) into the phone's My_Pix or My-Flix folder.

Should you desire additional assistance resolving this, we invite you to call Samsung Customer Support by phone at our toll free number 1-888-987-4357, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Central Standard Time.

I looked in the book and downloaded the online guide as well as went through the icon glossary on the phone. It looks like a phone icon, such as for a missed call - it is located in the bottom, center, however there is an arrow on the left side of the icon pointing to the phone-looking icon. Thank you for your inquiry. The Volume button at the side of your Samsung Convoy (SCH-U640) would be the volume button for the ringone and the ear piece volume of the for incoming/outgoing calls. There's no other confgurable option to increase/decrease the volume for the ringtone and for the ear piece of your handset.
