Regarding your concern, unfortunately, there is no configurable option to uninstall preloaded apps on your device. You can uninstall other apps:

Also, please check the Google Play Store for a possible third party task manager.

Have you made sure the ringtones you downloaded are not specifically for message notifications?

Here: http://bit.ly/IjxvEX on pg 84 and 57, you will see outlined instructions on how to set ringtones. I suggest you to go to the downloaded (ringtone) file and set that file as a ringtone from there, as you would set a song or music file to be a ringtone (pg. 57).
