One question is whether you're using the standard music player or a 3rd party app. I've found that, at least when playing video, you need to be using the built-in apps for the muting functions (such as putting the SIII facedown# and other features #e.g. video pop-out) to work. {ProfJonathan}

First, make sure you've downloaded the relevant drivers for your phone to be recognized in your computer's operating system (you'll find them on the support page). Next, once the drivers are installed, if you plug your phone into your computer via a microUSB cable, you should see a USB icon appear in your notification area. Through the Storage option under Settings, you can then choose whether your computer sees your phone as a camera or another kind of device. {ProfJonathan}

If you are referring to USB mass storage, you cannot. It can only be mounted like a camera or media device. If you use the MPT mode, you can still browse the internal storage and/or SD card by selecting the option to view files when the window pops up on a Windows operating system computer.

Question

How else is having issues with the wifi disconnecting for the network randomly?

My girlfriend and I both have GS3's and we each the issue where the phone automatically disconnects from wifi on its own. Then it says that my home network is not in range. The only thing that fixes this is by switching this off and then turning it back again. It's annoying, especially since i'm not on an unlimited plan anymore. I hope that theres a fix soon for it.

I am having the exact same problem. It started three days ago. The phone is now one month old. It will spontaneously disconnect from my Wi-Fi network. When I turn Wi-Fi off and back on (on the phone) it will immediately regain my Wi-Fi network with three bars. So, yes, I am well within range of my Wi-Fi hub.

I have had this problem with previous phones. Every month or every other month when this happens I unplug my router and modem power cord. I wait for the reboot of the modem and router and it appears to fix any Wi-Fi issues I have. I have 2 phones, tablet, and 2 Xboxes in my home. This fixes the issue for me every time so it may be worth a try.

You can download Zedge from the market and download different ringtones/sounds and then modify them in the appropriate selections. It will usually pop up a window wanting to know if you want to use the internal ones, etc. Just choose Zedge. I haven't played with the alarm (and cannot look at my phone right now as it is being rooted). Just got through rooting and alarm has an option to you "my files". You can browse to where Zedge downloaded the sounds and select from there.

You will need to install an App2SD application. There are several out there, I would recommend checking the reviews first. It will check for apps that can be moved to the SD card.

Some apps perform worse or break if you move them, but this is rare and usually the apps say on their Google Play page if you should move them or not.

If an app "breaks", you can move it back to the phone. Uninstall/reinstalling helps the worst offenders.

I have tried at least 4 different app2sd applications and none of them have worked. On another android forum I read that this is inherent to the phone. I don't know if it will even work if the phone is rooted. I am hoping that Samsung will unlock this feature in their next update, but am not holding my breath. If someone does find an app that works, I, as well as hundreds of others would be very interested.

Go to Settings > Security > and put a check mark in the box for Unknown Sources. This will let you sideload your apk files on your sd card. If you can't find them on your sd card get a file managing app in the Play Store.

Elliaster is correct. I can put photos on sd card and music but no apps. Some games (large files will store on sd) but not many plus i do not play a lot of games. Not being able to move apps to SD card is my only complaint but it is a big one. I do not have jelly bean yet but a co-worker does have it on her S3. I am going to check Monday to see if she will allow me to see if apps can be moved (fingers crossed). I have stopped and disabled apps I will never use. I read several different webpages claiming you can move apps with jelly bean update but who knows when that will be for Verizon and AT&T customers.

The device doesn't automatically migrate onboard memory to External SD. Once internal memory is full that's it. Your 64gb doesn't increase the memory available. You have to manually move items to external memory and set your camera to automatically save to external. Applications cannot be saved to external SD which is a real problem right now. Most other files can be moved with third party file explorer software from the app store.

Question

Galaxy SIII (US) Current Draw

I'm asking again as my questions were not answered. I am NOT asking about chargers or accessories; I am asking about the SCH-I535 phone itself. I have two questions:

1. What is the SIII's current draw whilst plugged into an AC charger? (I am NOT asking about charger specifications; I want to know the PHONE's power requirement.)

2. What happens if the SIII is plugged into an AC charger that has a lower max current rating than the SIII?

I saw something on CNET that said it was coming. But from their demo it was not much of a boost in performance.

Hi grierkj,

Thank you for your inquiry. We udnerstand that you would like to know on how to remove face recognition.

You may use the list of steps provided below for option to set security lock on your phone such as face lock.

1. From the Home screen, touch Menu, then select > Settings > Security.
2. Touch Screen lock for settings:
• Swipe: When enabled, you unlock the phone by swiping your finger across the screen. This is the default screen lock, and offers no security, but you can set special lock screen options.
• Motion: When enabled, you unlock the phone by touching and holding on the screen and tilting the phone forward. Touch the option for more information and a demonstration of the motion.
This screen lock offers no security, but you can set special lock screen options.
• Face unlock: When enabled, you unlock the phone by looking at the screen. This option offers low security, because someone who looks similar to you could unlock your phone. Touch the option for more information, and to set up Face unlock.
• Face and voice: When enabled, you unlock the phone by looking at the screen and speaking. This option offers low
security, because someone who looks and/or sounds similar to you could unlock your phone. Touch the option for more
information, and to set up Face unlock.
• Pattern: When enabled, you draw a pattern, which you create, on the screen to unlock the phone. Touch the option, then follow the prompts to create or change your screen unlock pattern.
• PIN: When enabled, you enter a numeric PIN (Personal Identification Number), which you create, to unlock the phone.
• Password: When enabled, you enter an alphanumeric password, which you create, to unlock the phone.
• None: Disable all custom screen lock settings, to use the default swipe unlock screen.

answer 2
Ok. I found out, quite by accident, how to do this. OK..

1. go to Gallery

2. tap on a picture

3. tap the settings button just left of the home key. This will bring up a menu that will allow you to remove face tags.

Hope this works for you.

Question

Backup

Two questions,

How do I back up my phone to my PC, not the 'cloud'?
Backup Assistant doesn't seem to work automatically nor when I manually do it. If I look at the backup/synch history, it indicates 'last backup today, 2 PM failed. And like most screens/documentation there is no further details/information, so the user is left without knowing what happened or what to do.

Backup assistant only backs up contacts. If you have your device sync'd to Google, it will backup contacts and applications you have installed, but it won't backup application data. In order to do complete backups of the device, the device would need root access to all data. Just Google that info for your device. Its not for anyone not technical in nature, but it can be done.

Backup Assistant only backs up your contacts. If you go to settings > Backup and Reset, just make sure the device is set to your Google account. Google will also backup your contacts and also the apps you presently have installed.

However, it doesn't backup your application data. Which means for example, if you have a game you progressed in and you factory reset the device, the game would then start off the same as when you first played with no saved data.

There are ways to do a complete backup of all data. There are Backup programs liek Go Backup and Titanium backup that can backup all data. However it requires your device to have SuperUser access.

It requires a thing called Root access. Its not hard to do, just google rooting Galaxy Note II.

Question

Why does my LED only work when completely powered down?

My LED notifications only work to show it being charged when completely powered off. I have selected in settings to show all notifications and it still does not work. At this point I'm unsure what I need to do to make it work.

So in Settings > Device > Display > General > LED indicator you have "Notifications" checked? This option does read that the LED will light up only when the screen is off. Have you had missed calls or text messages while the screen was off?

Question

LED light on and can't tell why

The orange light is on most of the time on my phone. I check the email and text messages...there are none. The light stays on. On top of that, I wish I had never set up the email in the mail. I don't want to know every time I get an email. I can't seem to get rid of it either. Any help out there?

I don't know about the LED, but for email notification:

Open the Email app
Press the menu (option) key
Select Settings
Tap the account you want to change
Scroll down to the Notification area and uncheck Email notifications.
Note: Under data usage you can set to Never check email and new email will ONLY download when you open the app and tap the refresh icon.

Have you installed apps to customize your LED notification lights? As far as I know, there are no apps available currently that work 100% for the Verizon Galaxy S3 phone. I hear the international version had some good luck with those apps.

You don't fix. If it continues, take phone back where you bought it. If the phone was purchased from a retailer, then you have 14 days to return in many cases. The carriers has to support the device as long as you have it. Just take it back. If you purchased from a retailer, contact Samsung directly if it is to late to return it.
