For some reason it's no longer accessible - have you notified Samsung support via phone of this issue? Anyway, I was able to download it 9/10/2010 so I have it on my desktop - it's about 7M but I'd be happy to try to email it to you if you're willing to post your email address (I don't know how to do that privately so that it's not broadcast to everyone on the boards.).

Bing is Verizon bloatware, cannot be removed (without rooting) but can be simply ignored, Download Vlingo right from the market, place in your home screen also place the Browser app. in home screen. Vlingo does voice search direct to Google and the Browser app. go to it's menu and set Google as default home page. Now your Browser icon will go directly to Google.

To remove from your screen, press and hold the app. While still holding it down, move to the Trashcan to remove.
To remove from the phone, you have to go into Applications and remove that way. The phone came preloaded with some lame apps from your cell carrier and those can't be removed...easily.

If you go to the download page http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SCH-I500RKAVZW you will find it. On the page are two tabs (one says Manuals the other says Downloads). Click on the Downloads tab. Several files are displayed. The first file in the list dated in Sept 2010 is the USB driver for the Fascinate on Verizon. When you click on it, it will tell you which phone it is for. Check before you download it because it may not be the first file in the list on another day but it is the first one on the list today.

All you have to do is look at the top of your screen on the SCH-1500. Press and hold it and drag it down to the bottom of the screen until it stays open and you can see the gray screen which tells you the status of the SCH-1500. Click on USB connection. Then it will ask you if you want to mount this device. say yes and it will appear on the computer that you are connected to. You wont need a driver at all. No matter what operating system you are running this will work.

Like you I was unable to find the driver in Samsung's online support - all of the download links take you to the same place and the FASCINATE (model SCH-I500) is not listed. Extremely frustrating. So I called support and got a great guy (Joe) who was able to help me and the driver actually loaded. I'm sorry that I can't retrace the steps we took (they were few & simple) but I do remember that the USB setting Joe told me to select was to actually UNselect it - it seemed counter-intuitive, but it worked.

If you're tech-savvy this information will be helpful to you, if you're not then just do what I did, call and talk with someone. I asked Joe to stay on the line until I'd completed the task I was trying to perform, in other words, I didn't let him hang up after he'd given me the direction but asked him to wait to make certain it all worked.

For you to connect the phone to the PC to transfer music, it would require you to have a memory card inside the phone and a data cable that is part of your standard box contents. Once you already have the requirements, then try to do the following steps:

Select Menu.
Select Settings.
Select Applications.
Select USB settings.
Choose Mass Storage (even if its already selected)
Press Home key to return to the home screen.
Connect the USB cable to the device.
Connect the opposite end of the USB cable to the computer.
Bring down the Notification Bar, and select USB Connected.
Select Mount

Check on the computer screen if it will recognize the device and Removable Disk will pop up on the screen. Select open folder to view files. Choose Audio/Music folder, drag and drop/copy and paste the file from the source folder going to the destination folder.

Ok well I use itunes for all my music but this should work the same with rhapsody too. Go into settings and click "USB settings" and then change your device to "media sync" rather than "mass storage". This way when you plug it your computer with the USB cord it will see it as a mp3 player device like an ipod and will allow you to download the music the same way for any other music player.

I took out the micro sd card and attached it to my computer and dragged the mp3 files onto it. I'm sure if you attach the data cable and tell the phone to be a mass storage device you can drag them that way. My method---I know for sure that the media is on the sd card not onto internal memory

It appears that you can only assign ringtones to "phone" contacts...not contacts you import from Gmail or Exchange etc. What I have done is create a new phone contact for say my wife, named it the same as my Gmail contact for her and only put in the ringtone I want used for her and saved the contact. The device was smart enough to automatically link the two contacts and now when my wife calls, I know it is her by the tone.

Can't be done. The Fascinate is equipped with a CDMA radio designed to run on Verizon's EV-DO (3G) network. When their 4G network goes live, it will be a completely different network architecture (LTE) that would require a completely new radio compatible with it. Hope that helps.

If the contact is a Google Contact, then you cannot, it has to be a phone contact. If you want, you can export the Google Contacts as a file, then import them as phone contacts, and then you can set a certain ring tone based on the user. Of course, this means that your contacts will not be updated on your Google account, but they will be backed up through Verizon's Backup Assistant.
Hope this helps.

The other answer here didn't work for me but this does. I have the ZEDGE app on my phone. I open that.
At the bottom, I touch the "downloads" button between Home and Search (its gray but works). Then I hit "Ringtones".
I pick the ringtone I want. When it comes up, I press "Set", then "Contact Ringtone". I pick the contact and that does it. Repeat for each one I want to add.

You can add a specific ringtone to certain contacts. You need to locate the sound file that you want to be the ringtone. Then tap and hold over that file.
For example, tap 'Applications',
tap 'Music Player',
tap and hold the song that you had in mind,
tap 'Set as',
tap 'Caller ringtone',

If Samsung will update the phone to Android 2.2 (Froyo), the OS allows for sorting by last name. This is a major, major problem with this phone. That, the LED and the junkware are a real pain.

This would be a great answer if there "order of display" were an option under menu settings. On my fascinate, there is no "order of display" option.

The contact has to be saved under "phone," not "google." Scroll down and you will be prompted to select a ringtone or use the default ringtone. You may have to create a new contact for the person you're trying to have a ringtone for under "phone," not "google."

> Go to your ringtones on your phone
> Select the tone you want to apply to a contact
> Select *SET AS*
> Select *2.CONTACT ID*
(This should direct you to the Contact List on your phone)
> Touch the name you want to apply that ringtone to

Wallah, you're set.

You may also go into your contacts list, select the contact you want to change the ringtone for, select edit and scroll down to *ringtone* option and you will be directed to the ringtones on your phone. Select the ringtone you want and hit save.

I hope this helps.

Select the person on the "Contacts" page, then hit the "menu" button next to the home button, select "Edit"

From here, make sure you're on the "Phone" tab, not the "Google" tab. Scroll down and an option is "Ringtone". Tap "Ringtone", then "Phone Ringtone". From here, you can select the ringtone you'd like for that contact.

I hope this helps!

There is a free app call noled on the Android App Store that I've been using with my Fascinate for months (It's one of the very first apps I searched for, and the first one that actually worked for this phone). You can configure it to show an icon or a dot (led) that you have a missed call, IM, voice mail, e-mail, appointment, etc., as well as vibrate reminders, if you wish. I've never had a problem with it. However, I'm downloading 2.2 right now. Hopefully it will work well with it!

Hi there!

Thank you for your inquiry.

The Samsung Fascinate (SCH-I500) does not have an LED indicator.

There is a proximity sensor/ambient light sensor on the upper left front of the phone.

Ambient Light Sensor - The ambient light sensor will report to the handset the amount of light that is near the sensor. The ambient light sensor is utilized for automatic backlight brightness.

Proximity Sensor - The proximity sensor allows the handset to perform certain functions based on objects detected near. This allows the handset to disable the touch screen while on a call to prevent unintentional activation of on screen options during a call.

We thank you for your patronage of Samsung products. Have a good day.

To answer your question a bit more honestly, yes auto-lock can be disabled, if I tell you how here it will be censored by Samsung, do a web search on how to access the "hidden menu feature" built into the phone. You will be surprised how many useful improvements/choices you can access. This is not rooting, it is built right into the phone. Good luck, I hope this is not blocked.

Unfortunately, there are no configurable option on how to disable the automatic lock on your device.

However, you may adjust the screen time out settings from 15 sec. to 30 min.

I discovered completely by accident that to get the Motorola H17 to play music thru the earpiece you have to go into Settings==>Sound & Display and 'uncheck' the 'Silent Mode'. It then played music through the H17. I was able to play through Pandora, as well as the Music Player.

Hi there,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that your phone, SCH-I500 freezes when you are opening new messages. We do apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused you.

You may try performing a soft reset on the phone as a basic troubleshooting step to fix it, by taking out the battery for at least 15-30 seconds, then put the battery back in again and turn it back on to refresh the software.

You may try to clear data of Messaging. Please follow the steps provided below:

Note: This will delete all data on Messaging Application.

1. From your Home Screen, tap on Menu key.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Tap on Application Manager.
4. Tap All.
5. Select Messaging.
6. Tap on Clear Data.

If any of these won't work, since this is a network dependent feature on the phone, we recommend you to contact your Service Provider to check if there's a network issue, as they can provide you available options to fix network connection on your phone in a timelier manner.

You may reach Verizon at 1-800-922-0204 for further assistance.
