From the home screen, hit the menu button soft key (far left). Select Settings, then Wireless & Networks, then Mobile networks, then System selection. Choose CDMA mode. When you want to turn 4g back on, pick LTE/CDMA. One previous answer said to turn off the mobile data. That is not correct. That would prevent you from using data over 3G as well.

Question

The phones says connect to the Wi Fi, but unable to transfer data

I connected my new phone, my third phone same issue, to the Wi Fi by the WPS button, and everything says I am connect to the network. I mean everything, the phone, the router, the internet connection. However, I am unable to use any of the applications that use Wi Fi. This issue is not only on my router, but where ever I connect. Other Samsung phones can connect and surf or email or weather but not mine. Accu-Weather conncection fails, browser page unavaiable. I have done a master reset and to no avail, connected but nothing works. 4G works just fine no issues.

Upon further trouble shooting with Verizon, it was found that a proxy server was set-up by one of the mail exchanges. Once this was cleared everything worked as it was suppose to work.

Question

Blue threads in messaging app

I have a Samsung Stratosphere from Verizon, and in the stock messaging app some of the thread names (i.e., the names of the contacts to/from whom the texts are written) are listed in blue, some in white. I've checked the manual and can't find a reference to this. There is no apparent pattern to it, and the blue items change all the time: each time I go to the messaging app a different configuration of threads is blue. It doesn't seem to cause any harm, but I would like to know what (if anything) it means. Has anyone else had this experience?

Response from SamsungTech01:
"If you are referring to the background color of your MMS messages typically outgoing messages will have a different background color to help differentiate between responses and sent messages."

I've gotten this response from both Samsung and Verizon tech support, but it cannot be right, since, as I originally posted, "There is no apparent pattern to it, and the blue items change all the time: each time I go to the messaging app a different configuration of threads is blue."

It's not MMS messages, but the list of regular SMS messages that appears when I first open the Messaging app. Some of the thread names are blue, some are white, without apparent pattern.

The responses and sent messages distinction may be what is intended, but it's not how it's working on my phone. Some threads in which the last message was "sent" are blue, some are white; and some in which the first message was "sent" are blue, some are white; and likewise with threads in which the last or first message is a response: some are blue, some are white, and I cannot make out any pattern at all. The whole thing seems completely random.

In fact, I've seen almost the entire list of threads turn blue WHILE I'M LOOKING AT THE APP, not doing anything with it at all. A similar phenomenon is demonstrated in the attached screenshots: in #1, the 1st and 7th items in the message list are blue, the rest white; in #2, the 3RD and 7th items are blue. The only thing that happened between the two screenshots is that I scrolled down the list to the bottom and then scrolled back to the top. I neither sent nor received any messages, and neither the 1st nor the 3rd thread was changed in any way.

So, perhaps for some of us (I've seen two other reports of this issue by Stratosphere users) the distinction is not working as intended.

For the Samsung Galaxy S4 I think it will go straight to The new Android KitKat when it comes out. Not really sure about it though because nothing official has been released regarding this issue.

Typically though, android does not receive "updates" to the current versions unless there is a bug or a glitch that needs to be fixed. Whenever OS changes have been made a new android version is released.

Hope that helps.

Question

Why does my Samsung Stratosphere take photos and videos that don't show up in the phone's gallery?

I'm out at a party and take photos and videos, but later when I check the phone's galery, only some of them are there. Also, when I download the pics and videos, the videos only download as the thumbnail picture instead of the video. Anyone know what is happening?

Hi!

Sorry you are having issues. Unfortunately this could be a number of issues. Have you downloaded any recent applications around the same time you started noticing these issues? Your best best would be to perform a hard reset. You'll find this option under your privacy settings. Make certain you backup any data you do not want to lose prior to resetting.

If you need additional assistance, feel free to ask us on Twitter @GalaxySsupport or @samsungservice for speedy responses in the U.S.

Hi lsongbird,

Thank you for your inquiry. We're sorry to hear that whenever the phone is turned off the ringtone that you set on your phone was removed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you

It is possible that the ringtone that you saved on your phone has a DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected that is why when the phone is turned off it removes the ringtone that you set on your phone. Please check if the ringtone is DRM protected.

You may also try setting up a different ringtone on your phone and check if it would do the same thing.

how do I removed unwanted apps that came pre installed on the phone.

ie City ID, Blockbuster, Lets Golf 2, NFL Mobil, NFS Shift, Slacker,
I do not want these apps on my phone and I have tried to remove them from the Applications>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications but even though I have uninstalled a few they are still on the phone and keep starting themselves up. I do not like Golf, or any other sports. the City ID will cost me more money after the trial is over (that I didn't want in the first place) and I can get movies for my laptop which has a much larger screen to watch on. Hi heami07,

Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that you would like to know how to sync your outlook with your phone, SCH-I405.

Samsung does not provide an application for this option. However, you may sync your phone over the air with your Gmail account.

You need to create a Gmail account on the computer and set up your Gmail account on the phone. You also need to import/export your outlook to your Gmail account. Once you did that, on your phone, go to settings, accounts and sync, tap on your Gmail account, make sure that the Sync Calendar, Sync contacts, Sync Gmail are all checked. From there your Gmail will automatically sync to your phone.

Do you have more questions regarding your Samsung Mobile Phone? For 24 hour information and assistance, we offer our new FAQ/ARS System - Automated Response System at http://www.samsung.com/support.

It's like having your very own personal Samsung Technician at your fingertips.

We appreciate your continued interest in Samsung products.

3. Save the calendar events to a file.
4. Log-in on the Windows Live e-mail associated with the Windows Phone 7 device and click on Calendar.
5. On the Windows Live e-mail calendar, click on Subscribe.
6. Select Import/Export from the drop down. Click on Import from an ICS file, then click on Browse to locate the calendar file saved.
7. Once calendar file is located, select the file and click on open.
8. Once calendar file selected, click on "Import to an existing calendar". Select either "Only keep the new events or Only keep original events". Finally, click on Import Calendar.
