If you're completely locked out of the phone run a search engine search for hard reset for exact step by step instructions. It should be a last option as it will erase everything from the phone and restore factory settings. You can accomplish this by pressing & holding the volume down key, send key, and power button simultaneuously until the Samsung logo appears then releasing it which will bring up the android recovery screen. I would find the step by step instructions before beginning, as I'm not sure if its acceptable to post links I won't but it can easily be found by searching Hard Rest for Samsung SCH-I100 in any search engine. Most step by steps will include the info you need to know before proceeding. If its just the Google account you're locked out of you can manage your accounts under settings- accounts & sync-manage accounts.you can add a new account from there.

Under contacts you will need to edit contact by either pressing and holding the contacts name and selecting edit from the options that appear or by pressing the options button after opening the contact. Towards the bottom of the of the editing field you will find Ringtone. Once selected it will ask for default or phone select phone and then choose ringtone for that contact. Hope this Helps.

There are two ways to do this. To do it from the contact: Use the "Menu" button. Navigate to "Address Book", select "Contacts", scroll down to the contact you want to change. Use the "Options" button and then select "Edit". Scroll down through the various fields until you come to one with a musical note on the left side. Then use the center button, or choose "Options" -> "Select". Scroll down to a ringtone or music file you like, then use "Options" -> "Select". Then "Options" -> "Save" to save the contact.

Alternatively, to do this from the ringtone: Use the "Menu" button. Navigate to "My Stuff". Scroll down to "Audio" and select that folder. From there choose "Tones", "Music" or "Recorded Audio". Scroll to the ringtone you want. Use the "Options" button, choose "Set As", then choose "Caller Ringtone". Choose "Search Contact", find the contact you want to assign the tone to, then use the "Select" button.

You can get photo's off of your phone in 4 ways. 1. You can use a micro SD card reader and remove the micro SD card from the phone and plug it up to your computer via USB and copy them out of the DCIM folder. 2. You can use a bluetooth adapter to create a bluetooth network and send them via bluetooth. 3 You can send them via email to yourself as attachments. 4. If you have a wireless network there are many apps paid and free that will allow you to send files from your phone to your computer or to select files from your phone and save them at your computer. The only method I know to create a customized text tone is on your SD card you will need to go to the folder "Media", inside of that folder should be "Audio", and inside of that folder is "Ringtones". In "Audio" you will need to create a folder called "Notifications" Drop any files you want for text, email, or alarms in this folder. All ringtones should be in the ringtone folder and notifications in the notifications folder, if you want same file for both you will need a copy in both folders. You may need to adjust lengths and file types but this works on most android phones. Hope this helps. On the Gem I know that MP3's and MPeg4 works, but not sure how long they can be.

Hi Brooker,

If you want to use the downloaded ringtone to set as your personal ringtone on your SCH-I100n Gem handset, then the ringtone must be below 300 KB.

Once you download the tone, save it on the ringtones folder to automatically save them on the ringtones list. Then follow the steps below on how you can change the ringtone on the handset.

STEPS:

1. From Home Screen, Press Menu
2. Go to Settings
3. Select Sound and Display
4. Select on Notification Ringtone
5. Tap on the radio button on the selected tone
6. Press OK to save the changes.

There are a number of ways to transfer files to your computer. 1 would be to use a micro SD card reader and plug the SD card directly to the computer then pictures can be found in the DCIM folder and copied to your computer. 2. Email which you have tried, and may try again. 3. their are a number of Apps that allow you to transfer files across a wireless network. and 4. If your computer is bluetooth enabled as many laptops are or you can use a bluetooth USB adapter to create a bluetooth network and transfer files that way. Hope this helps.

Why isn't my memory card working?

When i bought my phone it came with a 4GB memory card. The first day I had my phone the memory card was working and showing up fine, but the second day my phone was saying that there was no memory card inserted and it was in the phone. I took the card out and replaced it but it still is saying there is not card inserted.

Is the SD Card formatted? If you have a micro SD card reader you may try viewing its contents on your PC. If you haven't taken any pictures you may just want to reformat it. Also if you go into Applications/Settings/SD card & Phone storage and see if the card was unmounted for safe removal. or needs to be formatted. I doubt its been unmounted but if it has you should only have to restart the phone for it to work. Be aware that formatting will erase any information that was on the card if you saved anything to it. Hope this helps.

You will need to check your firmware version under Applications/settings/About Phone it will be listed under Firmware Version. If it is 2.1(Eclair) You cannot save applications to your SD card. This is only available in 2.2 (Froyo) and higher. If you are 2.2 it should be available under your applications manager. Only certain providers are using 2.2. Please check with your provider for updates. If you use generic updates you may=will damage your phone/functions so only user your providers updates.

Follow the steps below to save downloaded applications from the Android Market to a microSD card.

Press the Home Key
Press the Menu Key
Tap on Settings
Tap on Applications
Tap on Manage applications
Tap on Third-party tab and select appliction to be moved to microSD card
Select Move to SD card
Tap on On SD card tab to verify application was moved to microSD card

If you used the Generic update it will damage the market and reduce your internet/signal strength since the phones purchased from a provider are not generic's. Only certain providers have gem's compatible with the 2.2 update. Only use updates from your provider to prevent such issues in the future. Since this has happened to many Gem users you may still be able to have the phone replaced under warranty since it was a manufacturers update, just not for the right phone. Generics are phones not sold by only one provider IE The Gem for Verizon uses a different OS then for Verizon, and they both aren't the same as one you can buy directly without contract. Generics refer to the phones you can purchase without contracts.

To uninstall apps from the Samsung Gem got to Applications/Settings/Applications/Manage Applications. Please note you can only remove applications you installed as for removing factory apps/trials also known as "Bloatware." That is not an option as it is hard written to the phone's operating system by your provider.

When the phone is fully charged the screen should have an indicator that appears saying it is fully charged and to remove it from the charger. Well made chargers IE smartphone approved chargers should cut off when the battery is fully charged, before purchasing any after market chargers I would check to make sure they include this function to protect the life of your battery.

1.To change the ringtone you go under Applications/Settings/Sounds & Display/Phone Ringtone. That will change the Default ringtone to which ever ringtone you selected.
2. If you want individual ringtones you will go to Contacts/Select the contact to edit by click and holding it until the options come up/Edit/towards the bottom you will have ringtone as an option to select/it will offer default or phone ringtone, select phone ringtone and then the ringtone you want for that contact.
3. If you need help adding ringtones the only method I'm familiar with is with other then downloading from the provider is when the SD card is formatted by your phone then connected to the computer you will have a folder name "Media" inside of that folder should be "Audio" and inside of that you should have "Ringtones" drop the audio files you want to use for incoming calls in this folder. To create a tone for texts or emails you will need to create a folder called "Notifications" for those. Once both folders are there you can then drop files into either Ringtones/Notifications to use as ringtones or Text/email tones respectively. I've got MP3 and Mpeg4's that work but their may be some formatting limitations in size/length/or file types that I'm not sure of.

If the Phone is DOA, you should be able to return it under warranty, its inconvenient but happens when factories produce thousands of the same model a few defective ones will slip through. You may want to try removing the battery and putting it back in. Is the display lighting up when plugged in or when you try to boot it or at all really? If so it may be a bad battery and a functional phone which you should be able to check at your phone provider. Hope that helps.

When your browser is open press your options key, select bookmarks from the center top row this will show a list or thumbnail of all bookmarks. Select and hold the bookmark you want to remove and this will bring up your options scroll down to Delete bookmark. Hope this Helps.

Question

How to remove synced email contacts?

I initially synced my contacts not knowing and now all my email address are in my contact list and I would like them removed. Is there an easier way then just deleting one by one?

To remove email contacts easily the best route I know of is to go to contacts hit the options button, go to display options, and check only display contacts with phones. You may still have some email addresses but only if you added phone numbers for your contacts in email. Or below that you can select the email account and uncheck all of the contacts under your email to remove them all. Hope this Helps.

Depending on providers the size of files sent via txt messages varies. You can check with your provider to see what that size limit is. To reduce the file size you can go into your camcorder settings using your and reduce the quality of the video from High (for SD Card) to Low (for MMS messages). to access those options you simply go into camcorder mode and other slide the side option panel out or press your options key. Hope this helps.

Depends on whether you mean to upload or transfer. In the Gallery you can select a picture and share which will allow you to upload to Picasa, text, or your email using Gmail where you can send it to other users from there to download. Please remember these methods will use Data/messaging and you will be billed according to your plan. If you want to transfer it to your own computer your options are to email it to yourself using your Gmail account (still using Data), transfer via data cable, or there are a variety of apps that can be used to send it across your Wifi/bluetooth networks. If you have an SD card you can put the SD card into a reader and plug it directly to your computer and your photo's will be found under the DCIM folder. Hope this helps.

Connecting & Transferring

Press the Home Key
Connect the compatible USB cable to both the handset's USB Power/Accessory Port and to a USB port on the PC
The handset will show briefly "USB Connected" in the Annunciator Line followed by a USB icon
Tap and hold the Annunciator Line and pull it down by sliding your finger down the screen
Tap on USB Connected
Tap on Mount
Open Windows Media Player. Notice the phone is displayed in the left pane for each drive volume present.
Click on the Sync tab to expose the phone
Try dragging and dropping the music in the Sync list from your music library
Click the Sync button to start the transfer progress
The transfer has been completed.
When finished, tap and hold the Annunciator Line and pull it down by sliding your finger down the screen
Tap on Turn off USB storage
Tap on Turn Off
Disconnect the USB cable from both the handset & PC. You are now ready to play music on the go with your phone.
Technical Support (Windows 7)

MTP devices will generally show under Portable Devices.

If the computer has problems installing the drivers, try a different port.

If detection is still a problem, visit Microsoft update and update top the latest version of Windows Media Player for the OS.

How do I save my applications on my phone to the sd card?

I have the sch-i100 gem. I have apps on there already and can not figure out how to move them. Also how do I get rid of all the apps that come with the phone so I can free up some storage?

You will need to check which firmware version you are running if it is 2.2, you will have the option to move to SD card under your application management. If it is Version 2.1 you cannot save applications to the SD Card. Some Gem's have 2.2 some only 2.1. Only certain providers have been given updates to 2.2. If your phone is 2.1 only use your providers updates and not a generic update as generic updates can/will ruin the phones functions. As far as removing all apps you can remove any apps that you installed but the pre-installed apps/trials also called "Bloatware" are hard written to the phone by the provider and cannot be removed without rooting the phone. Rooting violates your warranty and may cause instability in the phone, worse case scenario renders the phone useless and you would have to buy a new phone.

I don't believe that is a standard feature on the Gem. After reviewing the manual I didn't find it listed as a feature. The Phone is capable but you will want to find a 3rd party application then you should be able to get started. I don't believe there is a standard app included, at least their wasn't one with my provider and in reviewing the user manual it makes no reference to it. I however do have an app that I use for that, may options are available free and paid in the App Marketplace.

Samsung has made the official statement that they cannot comment on it. It would be nice but since the Froyo update for the Fascinate took around a year and they haven't already released any plans for the Gem I'm not hopeful. If they intend to release an update I hope they do it soon, because the Gem's 148mb of memory is insufficient without the ability to save to SD. To sum it up they've not given an real answer to that question yet.
