DVI or HDMI will automatically be detected as digital, apparently you are using the analog (VGA) cable.

answer 2
If you have the right cord plugged in (DVI or HDMI) then you might just need to hit the input button on the front of the monitor to change it to the digital instead of analog signal. But if you are using VGA then it will be analog always.

You are not using the right cableing it must be DVI / HDMI to monitor's HDMI port.
I had to use a converter that allowed me to plug in to my computer's DVI port converts it to HDMI plug that allows you to use the HDMI cable from the monitor.

Question

Why can't I get the monitor software to work?

My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition (SP3). I have a Video Controller (VGA compatable) which has no driver. I have loaded the monitor software, but every time I start up the computer, I get two messages: "Multi-Screen Error. Samsung Monitor not found" and then a message to the affect that Magic Tune has encountered an error and has to shut down.

Sounds like you should uninstall the software and reinstall it. Be sure you go to the website and select the proper version for XP, and not the latest ones which are only for Vista/7. Also, if you are trying to plug a second monitor into the on-board VGA plug, and your first one is through a video card, that could be the problem, too, since installing a video card disabled the on-board VGA plug automatically. I encountered this problem when trying to install 3 monitors, so I had to upgrade to a monitor that supported DisplayPort (or you could use several adapters). Another thing you could try is going into the Device Manager and selecting the VGA controller and try to update the driver automatically from the Internet, instead of trying to find the driver yourself on Samsung.com (since the driver will be for your video card/port, not the monitor.

There are no speakers on this monitor. I haven't seen any monitor accessories either. You'll need a sound system that is independent of the monitor.

I had the same problem with two of these monitors. The monitor started blinking once the machine booted up and would continue to blink even after unplugging the video cable. Same effect plugged into desktop and laptop.

One monitor I RMA'd back to Samsung for a refund.

I found with the other monitor that the blinking could be suppressed by turning on the ECO light sensor and then back off (via the monitor's OSD). Sometimes it still blinks on boot but its not a big enough deal for me to return it.

Does your on-board video card support 1920X1080 resolution? Many cards, especially in laptops, will not support that high for an external monitor. What version Macbook Pro do you have? You can type in the serial number to the Apple search box and it will bring up all of the specs of your machine to do more digging.

You kind of have to manhandle the monitor: grab it by the top and bottom of the screen and push it in the direction you want it to move. It may seem like the screen is flexing, but it will adjust the stand a bit and will look a lot better when sitting. Just don't use TOO much force...

How can I adjust the picture width on my Samsung S27A550H monitor?

The auto adjustment on the monitor sets the picture width either too narrow so that it does not fill up the monitor or too wide so that the desktop extends beyond the visible area of the monitor. How can I fix this?

look for an overscan setting on your video card. The overscan should be set to 0, also make sure the monitor is set to PC-DVI in the samsung software. I saw that on several posts in other forums.

The monitor does lock on the to stand and is stable if done correctly, Place the monitor on a blanket face down on a solid surface, not a bed or couch, then firmly push the monitor stand end until it snaps, the stand is then locked. I had to apply a little more pressure then I actually felt comfortable with, Also lifting the monitor off the face slightly at an angle and applying the pressure to the stand helped with the assembly.

That could be a BIOS setting, something like wake on click or wake on keyboard settings. Restart your computer, hit the appropriate F-key to get into the BIOS screen (usually it's like F12) and then look through the menus until you see something that says something about waking from sleep. This can sometimes also affect monitor waking in addition to computer waking. Another thing with the Samsungs if you could also install that magic software that allows you to control the monitor from your computer (and not the actual buttons on the monitor) and there might be a way to configure it from that.

See if your video card will do 1920x1080 60Hz, that should come up as it's "recommended" setting and will give you the sharpest image. (My ATi5750 shows the monitor reports 1920x1080 75Hz capability, but the 5750 doesn't offer faster than 60Hz to send to the monitor.)

Question

SA550 Flickering

I have had this monitor for just over a month and I have suddenly had the issue where the screen would flash black every 10 seconds or so. I am connected via hdmi, have tried a different monitor with no problems so I know it's not a computer issue.
I tried hooking up the monitor up without any input so the analog screen is displayed and it still has the same issue. The monitor never losses power during the flashes.
