It can take the RSG257 up to 24 hours to cool completely to the set temperature, though it is likely to cool more quickly without having the food stored in it. I would suggest waiting until the refrigerator and freezer are at the desired temperature before adding food, if at all possible.

Question

Can't check ice maker function (RSG257)

following the instruction in the owner's manual, I'm unable to remove the icemaker cover to make sure the correct amount of water is flowing. Is there some trick to it? I'm trying to raise the cover before pulling it forward, and it will not move up. I don't want to force it and break something.

Please see the attached images which show how to remove the cover from the RSG257 icemaker. If you place your hands on the cover as shown, apply pressure to the front edge of the cover with your thumbs, pushing the cover up from the front first. Once you lift it, you'll be able to see how to replace it based on the location of the plastic hooks on the door behind the cover, and the slots in the rear of the cover that will need to align with the hooks.

I hope this helps!

To set the fridge temperature on the RSG257AAWP, make sure the Child Lock is not engaged, then press the Fridge button repeatedly until the desired temperature is displayed. After a few seconds, the display should change back to the actual temperature, and blink until the internal temperature has reached the set temperature. After a short time the displayed temperatures will turn off to save energy, but you can check them anytime by pressing the Freezer or Fridge buttons.

For more information, please refer to page 20 of the user manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website, or call 800-SAMSUNG for further assistance.

Since Consumer Reports is an independent organization, I cannot speak to their testing procedure. What I can tell you is that Samsung is committed to producing top-quality products that exceed current Energy Star testing standards, as evidenced by our current ratings. Please see below for the most recent ratings, as published on energystar.gov, and thank you for the question!

Samsung does not make a counter depth version of our popular RF266 French Door model with the internal ice and water dispenser at this time. Our counter depth French Door models RFG237 and RFG238 (with Dual Icemakers) have the external ice and water dispenser on the door. Thank you for your feedback and enthusiasm! I'll certainly forward your comments to the appropriate team.

I'm sorry to hear your RSG257AAWP is not cooling. Please check first to make sure the refrigerator is not in Demo, or Cooling Off, mode, which would be indicated by "OF" being displayed on the control panel screen. To deactivate this mode and turn the cooling system on, press the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons at the same time for 3 seconds until you hear a chime sound. The compressor should turn on almost immediately and the control panel should allow you to set the temperature. Please note that the display will revert to the actual temperature reading a few seconds after you select a set temperature. After a sufficient period of time has passed, the actual and set temperatures will be the same. It is normal for the display to turn off after a few seconds, but it should turn back on when any of the buttons on the panel are pressed.

If the above instructions for canceling the Cooling Off mode are not effective, and your RSG257 does not cool after 24 hours, then it will likely require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

The RSG257, like many other current Samsung refrigerator models, are designed to lean back slightly so the doors close easily and stay closed, even when loaded with food. If the leveling legs are raised so the front of the refrigerator is resting on the wheels, then you may need to use shims to raise the back of the refrigerator to prevent the doors from closing on their own. If you are still in warranty please call 800-SAMSUNG and a Customer Service Representative should be able to send you a set of shims (see part number below) at no cost to you. If you are out of warranty you can visit SamsungParts.com to order the part.

The amount of time that it takes to start producing ice can vary, and typically ranges from just a few hours to as much as 24 hours. Once ice production begins, it will take several cycles to actually fill the bucket, and each cycle takes about 90 minutes. Some of the variables effecting production can include the temperature variance between the room and the set temperature; humidity level, water pressure, and the temperature of the food when it's first placed in the freezer, as well as how often the door is opened during the cooling process. Pressing the "Power Freeze" button on the control panel can help speed up ice production.

To find a retailer near you that carries the RSG257AAWP, please click on the "Where to buy" button on the right side of the product's home page, then enter your zip code and select a radius. If this does not return the desired results, try expanding the radius, searching other zip codes in neighboring areas, or contacting retailers that carry the same model in other colors to see if they can order your preferred color. Distribution of particular models changes frequently, so checking back periodically may yield different results. Thank you for your interest in Samsung!

Question

Plastic taste to water

New Counter Depth Refrigerator model RSG257AA was installed first of June. Filter installed and been getting a plastic taste to water. Confirmed no taste going into the fridge, only out. Initially flushed several gallons and have been flushing extra water for over a month now...seems a little better after flushing a gallon or more, but then comes back the next day. Please advise if there is something we may have missed.

Question

Is the door opening adjustable?

I just bought a RSG257AA counter depth side by side fridge, and I love it so far.

The only drawback is that the right side of the fridge is flush against the kitchen wall and I didn't know when I bought it that the door opening is wider than the width of the fridge. Meaning, when the right side door opens, the hinges at the corners are such that the corner of the door hits the wall before the rest of the door can open! It's made it so that I can't open the drawers :( I'm not sure what to do because I love the fridge but can't experience it fully. Is there anything I can do?

I'm glad to hear you love your new RSG257 refrigerator! Counter depth refrigerators are often installed so the front edge of the case is in line with the cabinets, but the doors are set out from the cabinets so the doors can open unobstructed. I would recommend pulling the refrigerator out about 3" since there is no adjustment that would enable the doors to open freely otherwise.

Thank you for the question, and for choosing Samsung!

There are several factors that can effect the ability of an icemaker to produce ice, including water supply, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and control panel functions. Please check the following to try to resolve the issue:
- Is the water connected, the valve turned on and hoses unkinked and free of obstruction?
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned off? Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.
- Is the control panel locked, which would prevent the dispenser from operating?
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it?

If none of the above suggestions helps to resolve the issue, and the ice tray does not fill with water, try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button on the icemaker again. If the tray fills without a filter installed, then the cartridge is likely clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced. The filter should be replaced about every 6 months based on average usage, but it could become clogged sooner if there are a lot of impurities in the water supply.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

Thanks for the question. If the door is creaking, it may either be caused by excessive weight in the door storage compartments, or the hinges may need to be lubricated. If the refrigerator is new, it may be helpful to remove the hinge covers to check the wires to make sure they haven't become stuck in the hinge. If the problem persists, try adding a few drops of WD40 to the hinge, making sure to wipe up any excess so it doesn't drip down the side or into the refrigerator compartment.

Please note that Samsung recommends using either an internal filter cartridge or an external filtration system to help prevent mineral deposits or debris in the water from damaging the refrigerator's water lines. If you have an external filtration system in place, you can remove the filter cartridge and it isn't necessary to install the filter cap. However, if you'd like to use a cap and no longer have the one that came with the refrigerator, click here for information and availability of the cap for the RSG257: http://www.samsungparts.com/Product...
