Questions & Answers for samsung 24 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator

Question

Ice not dropping from my ice maker

My ice will not drop from my ice maker. There is frozen ice there but they will not drop, sometimes the ice will push out and just sit on the top. I push the reset button, but this only makes water spill out all over and then there is a ding dong sound. What has to be done to repair this? What is the ding dong (bell sound)? and should I repair this or replace the ice maker?
Thanks

Thank you for contacting Samsung. You can place the refrigerator into Demo mode to turn off the cooling in both the refrigerator and the freezer compartments. Here's an article that explains it: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00000983&fm_seq=1151

It is isn't possible to turn off one compartment and not the other. It is possible to turn up the temperature in a given compartment. Thank you for being a Samsung customer!

It isn't necessary to install a cap on the filter assembly in your RSG257, but if you'd like to order one, please click here for information and availability: http://www.samsungparts.com/Product...

Please note that Samsung does not recommend operating the refrigerator's ice and water features without a filtration system to help prevent mineral deposits and debris from damaging the water lines. However, if you already have an external filtration system in your home, it's fine to remove the cartridge from your refrigerator.

Thanks for the question. Samsung recommends keeping the vents on the back of the refrigerator, as well as the area surrounding it, free of dust and debris that could obstruct air flow. The cooling system is enclosed and should be accessed by qualified service technicians only.

The icemaker in the RSG257 will turn off automatically when the bucket is full, as detected by the feeler arm that hangs under the icemaker. If you prefer, you can turn the icemaker off manually using the control panel.

The most common causes of the popping sounds are the icemaker dumping ice into the plastic bucket, and air passing through the lines. As long as the unit is still operating normally there is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the question. The "plug" icon on the control panel indicates whether the Energy Saver feature is on or off. When the plug is lit up, Energy Saver is on, which means the low-wattage heater in the strip between the doors is off. This feature is also explained on page 19 of the User Manual.

Question

I cannot get the water filter to seat properly in the refrigerator.

We bought this refrigerator just before Thanksgiving, 2011, and the water and ice taste bad. We just realized that the water has not been going through the filter. The filter will not seat properly. We have tried two filters both of them are the Aqua-Pure HAFCU1/XAA. The symbols will not line up.

Thanks for the question. Please make sure the Child Lock is not engaged, which could prevent you from turning the Energy Saver on or changing from crushed ice to cubed. If this is not the case, and some of the lights on the display are not working, it will require service to fix them.

Question

How can the filter's life be extended in a hard water area?

We live in an area that has very hard water, and have a water softener. We originally changed the water filter in the refrigerator every 6 months. Now it has to be changed every 2 month or we don't get water or ice. When the filter was replaced, the filter alarm was reset. How can we extend the life of a filter past 2 months?

Thanks for the question. I would suggest checking with a local plumber for advice on how to treat your home's water supply to reduce mineral deposits, such as installing a whole-house filtration system. This may enable you to extend the life of the refrigerator's filters. If the household system is effective enough, you may not need to install the refrigerator cartridge at all.

Question

What humidity level is ideal for fruits and vegetables stored in the crisper for model RF4287HARS

Different fruits and vegetables have different storage needs with regard to the humidity level. To give you an example, items like lettuce, spinach and berries prefer high humidity (over 90%), while onions and squash prefer lower relative humidity (under 80%). Since the RF4287HARS features Samsung's signature Twin Cooling Plus system, which maintains an optimally high humidity level (over 70%) throughout the refrigerator, your produce should last longer compared to conventional systems regardless of the setting on the drawer. The drawer lever can complement the Twin Cooling, however: open the lever for lower humidity-loving fruits and veggies, and close the lever to increase it. A helpful trick to remember which produce loves higher humidity is to think of what items are kept on the sides of the produce aisle in the grocery stores (where they receive frequent "mistings" of water) and which are not.

I'm sorry to hear you have an odor in your refrigerator. Residual odors from a new refrigerator should dissipate over time; to help this process you can wash out the interior of the fridge and freezer, discard the first few batches of ice, and flush the water lines and filter by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water. Other odors in the fridge may be the result of food stored there.

Regarding the temperature, it isn't unusual for the display temperature to vary by up to +/- 4° compared to a household thermometer used to measure the temperature inside the compartments. If yours is varying by more than this, please check the vents at the back of the fridge and freezer to make sure they aren't blocked, and check the clearance around the outside of the fridge. Samsung recommends leaving at least 1" above, 3/8" behind and 1/4" on each side of this model for air flow. Please also keep in mind that frequent door openings can impact the internal temperature. Similarly, if the door is not sealing correctly it may allow cold air to escape and warmer air to enter. Check the door gaskets to make sure they're sealing tightly.

If these suggestions do not help to resolve your concerns, please submit your contact information to our support team through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

If the door on your refrigerator is creaking, consider removing some items from the door in the event the sound is caused by excessive weight on the door. It may help to add a small amount of WD40 or other lubricant to the hinge, and also make sure the wires under the hinge cover are not caught under the hinge. Be sure to wipe up any excess lubricant so it doesn't drip, inside or out.

To cancel the demo mode on your RSG257AABP, press the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and a numeric reading returns to the display, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air. Be sure the Child Lock is not engaged when pressing the buttons.

Thanks for the question. If the door is creaking, it may either be caused by excessive weight in the door storage compartments, or the hinges may need to be lubricated. If the refrigerator is new, it may be helpful to remove the hinge covers to check the wires to make sure they haven't become stuck in the hinge. If the problem persists, try adding a few drops of WD40 to the hinge, making sure to wipe up any excess so it doesn't drip down the side or into the refrigerator compartment.

There are several factors that can effect the ability of an icemaker to produce ice, including water supply, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and control panel functions. Please check the following to try to resolve the issue:
- Is the water connected, the valve turned on and hoses unkinked and free of obstruction?
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the control panel locked, which would prevent the dispenser from operating?
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it?

If none of the above suggestions helps to resolve the issue, and the ice tray does not fill with water, try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button on the icemaker again. If the tray fills without a filter installed, then the cartridge is likely clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced. The filter should be replaced about every 6 months based on average usage, but it could become clogged sooner if there are a lot of impurities in the water supply.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.
