Thanks for the question. The RSG257 display is designed to turn off when not in use, and there is no option to have it remain illuminated indefinitely.

The RSG257AABP, like the other Samsung side-by-side refrigerators, is available only with the water and ice system. Some customers who do not have access to a water hook-up choose to purchase Samsung refrigerators for the other great features and reputation, but disable the icemaker so it does not attempt to draw water through the line to make ice.

Thank you for the question. The User Manual actually refers to polishing the RSG257 once or twice a year (see page 25), though I found no reference to wax. I would suggest using a mild soap or glass cleaner to polish the RSG257AABP as frequently as you find it necessary to keep it nice and shiny.

Samsung does not currently have the decibel ratings of refrigerators available to publish, though many customers consider our refrigerators to be very quiet. I would suggest visiting a retailer that has this model on display. Many retailers already have Samsung refrigerators plugged in, though they may be on "cooling off" mode for display purposes. If so, simply press the Power Freeze and Freeze buttons to turn the compressor on, which will give you an idea of the sound level of the refrigerator when cooling.

I had several items go out on the display after six months. It was replaced under warranty. The technician did recommend unplugging ( not shutting off the breaker) for about 30 min and then plugging back in. If it is going to reset it will do so then.

The RSG257AABP uses approximately 560 KWH/year, based on Energy Star testing standards. Please refer to the image below, excerpted from Energy Star's website, for ratings information. As explained on www.energystar.gov, actual usage may vary. Besides the room temperature, factors such as the temperature at which the refrigerator and freezer are set, the frequency and duration that the doors are opened, the temperature of the foods that are placed inside the compartments, and the amount of air circulation afforded by the clearance around the refrigerator can all effect the efficiency.

The U.S. Department of Energy website, http://www.energysavers.gov/your_ho..., is a great source of information which may be helpful in calculating actual energy consumption.

After replacing the filter, dispensing 6 gallons of water will help to ensure there is no air in the lines which could effect ice production. Please also make sure your home's water pressure is at the recommended 20~125 psi. Under normal conditions, a 170 cc (5.75 oz.) glass can be filled in 10 seconds at this pressure.

Other factors that can effect ice production include the freezer temperature, which is recommended to be set at -2°F, and the frequency that the doors are opened, since this can effect the overall compartment temperature, as well.

Under ideal conditions, the RSG257 should make approximately 100 cubes per day. If, after trying the above suggestions, it is significantly lower, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

The letters "OF" on the display of your RSG257 indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. To cancel this mode, press the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and a numeric reading returns to the display, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air.

If doing this does not return your refrigerator to normal operation, it's possible you had activated a different mode through the other buttons that were pressed, or the code you're seeing may indicate an error message. Please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you in resolving this issue.

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with water leakage in your RSG257AABP. Please click on the link below, then select "Troubleshooting ► Water And Ice ► Water Dispenser ► Water Is Leaking": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Since the water appears to be leaking on the freezer side, I would suggest checking the coupler behind the leg cover on the freezer side. If the articles in the guide do not help to resolve the issue, please use the link provided in the article to submit a service request.

Question

My refrigerator makes a loud "growling" noise about once every hour or two. The sounds lasts for 2 to 5 seconds. How do I make it stop?

It's been making this sound ever since it was installed. I do not have it connected to a water source (I use bottled water and buy my own ice), and I'm wondering if the sound is a pump, or something related to the ice-maker. Since the refrigerator is not connected to a water source, is there something I need to turn off or disconnect to make the noise stop? On a quiet night, the sound can be startling.

Thank you for the question. If your RSG257AABP is not connected to a water supply, please make sure the icemaker is turned off using the control panel. If it is not, the sound you hear may be due to the icemaker attempting to draw water to make ice. If this is not the case, please click on the link below to go to the troubleshooting guide, then select "Troubleshooting ► Noise/Vibration": http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...
While many noises can be minimized or eliminated through the tips in this guide, others may require service to repair. If service is necessary, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Selecting the Power Freeze feature in the RFG297 should cause the compressor to run for about 2-1/2 hours. When Power Freeze turns off, the light on the control panel turns off automatically. If your RSG257AABP display reads "PC ER" it may require service to properly diagnose the issue and correct it. When you unplug the refrigerator, the error codes and other history is cleared from the refrigerator's memory, so Samsung does not recommend doing this unless advised to do so by an authorized technician. If you've just replaced the filter and your RSG257 icemaker is not producing ice, please check the following:
- Is the water connected, the valve turned on and hoses unkinked and free of obstruction?
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned on? Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.
- Is the control panel locked, which would prevent the dispenser from operating?
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it?

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.

There are several factors that can effect the ability of your RSG257 icemaker to produce ice, including water supply, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, and control panel functions. Please check the following to try to resolve the issue:
- Is the water connected, the valve turned on and hoses unkinked and free of obstruction?
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2 to -4°F.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the icemaker turned off?
- Is the control panel locked, which would prevent the dispenser from operating?
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test/Reset button on the icemaker?
- If all of the above options do not resolve the issue, and the ice tray does not fill with water, try removing the water filter temporarily and press the test button on the icemaker again. If the tray fills without a filter installed, then the cartridge is likely clogged or partially clogged and should be replaced.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you.
