Question

Newly installed, won't make ice?

Hello, I recently purchased this unit and we installed it at home ourselves. Currently the water/ice dispense works properly dispensing water and controlling the unit. However, unless the test button is pressed for the ice maker - it won't make ice automatically. We didn't notice until we got home that the fridge did not come with a filter, could this be the problem?

Thank you!

Thanks for the question. If your refrigerator is dispensing water properly and the icemaker is functioning when the test/reset button is pressed, then the lack of a water filter is probably not the issue. Before calling for service, please check the following:
- Is the icemaker turned off? To disable/enable the icemaker, press the Ice Type button for 3 seconds.
- Is the freezer cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer temperature at -2°F.
- Is the freezer door sealing properly? Check the seal around the freezer to make sure the doors are fully closed and the seal is secure.

If, after checking each of these suggestions, the icemaker still isn't functioning properly, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you. Regarding the missing water filter, I would suggest contacting either your retailer or 800-SAMSUNG to determine replacement options.

I had the same problem. It's very important to dispense that initial 3 to 6 gallons of water to bleed off any air that might be in the line.

I'm sorry to hear you're having some trouble with your icemaker. I would suggest you review the Troubleshooting Guide articles on the new ice dispenser system through this link: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

Once the guide opens, select "Water And Ice" > "RS261MD, RS263TD, RS265TD, and RS267TD Dispenser Issues" for instructions on how to use the dispenser, or "Ice" > "Ice Will Not Dispense" for troubleshooting tips.

I thought I had the same problem until I discovered you have to really push the lever back as far as it will go. It offers more resistance than I realized and once I gave is a good push, it worked fine.

If installed correctly, the door handles on the RS265TDRS should not creak when you pull on them to open the doors. I would suggest reviewing the instructions for installing the handles found on pages 12-13 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website for your convenience. If the handles are installed correctly but still creak, please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you further.

You need to remove the stupid little thin plastic "do not remove" (ha ha) strips on the handle mounts. Then take some vaseline and coat the plastic on the mount and reinstall. I did this after mine started creaking ( a month after I bought the fridge) and it's been silent for the last 8 months.

Thank you for the question. The RS265TDRS features Samsung's signature Twin Cooling system rather than the upgraded Twin Cooling Plus. Both Twin Cooling and Twin Cooling Plus help to keep food fresher longer by optimizing the humidity level in the refrigerator while preventing odors and flavors from the refrigerator from mixing with the colder and dryer air in the freezer.

Samsung recently launched several new side by side refrigerators, including the RS265TDRS. Like the RS277ACRS, the RS265TDRS is real Stainless Steel and features Samsung's signature Twin Cooling System which helps keep food fresh longer, and through-the-door ice and water dispenser. The RS265 differs from the RS277 in the location of the icemaker, placing it on the door to free up space inside the freezer compartment. The new 2010 models also have LED lighting, increased energy efficiency compared to the earlier models, and a new space saving water filter design.

Question

Ice maker won't make ice, "Ice off" light blinks

We have a brand new fridge that won't make ice. From all we can tell it won't detect that the bucket is present. When we press the test button, it happily makes ice. We were put in touch with a repair firm, but they somehow got the wrong address, and now we're looking at 1.5 weeks before someone can help make our brand new refrigerator help. Are there other things I could try? Are there part diagrams for this model that I could look at? Anything else that I could try?

Thanks

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The blinking ICE OFF light is an indication that the bucket is not installed correctly, which will prevent ice from being produced. You should be able to determine if it's installed properly by checking to see if it's locked into place on the door, or is it loose and easily removed without pressing the levers. Please refer to the User Manual, or contact 800-SAMSUNG for assistance in removing and reinstalling the ice bucket.

Hey! I was actually interested in this as well, so I ended up calling Samsung as well as our local service center to verify. Purchased this unit about 2 weeks ago. It may look like the top of the light strip is not illuminated and the fridge may seem a bit dark. There are supposed to be six (6) LED lights on the refrigerator side. Freezer side contains many more LEDs than the fridge one. But if you can count six lights, then it is normal and how it is supposed to be. If not, you need to get in touch with Samsung and schedule a repair. I sure wish Samsung placed a few more LED lights in the fridge, as it would definitely make it brighter and easier to use. Freezer seems so much more appealing than the fridge, but great unit for the price.

Hope this helps.

The letters "OF" on the display of your RS265TDRS indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. To cancel this mode, press the Lighting and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and a numeric reading returns to the display, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes, producing the cold air necessary to make ice. Make sure the "Ice Off" icon is not illuminated on the display. If it is, press and hold the Ice Type pad for 3 seconds to turn the icemaking function back on. It can take up to 24 hours for the refrigerator and freezer to cool to the temperature necessary for ice to be made.

The letters "OF" displayed on the control panel of the RS265 indicate the unit has been placed in "Cooling Off" mode, or it may have reverted to that mode automatically when first installed or if power was lost. To turn the cooling system back on, simply press the Lighting and Freezer buttons, and hold for at least 3 seconds until you hear a chime; the compressor should turn on momentarily.

The replacement water filter for model RS265TDRS is part #DA29-00020B. It's not unusual for the light to come on to replace the filter at 5-6 months, or even earlier sometimes depending on usage. For more information and availability, please visit SamsungParts.com or call 800-627-4368. This filter is also carried by most major retailers that sell Samsung refrigerators.

Flushing 3 or more gallons of water through the lines after initial set up or after changing the water filter is important both for the taste of the water and for removing air from the lines to prevent dripping and ensure proper performance of the dispenser. Samsung does also recommend discarding the first 3 batches of ice if you wish to improve the taste.

The letters "OF" on the display indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. In this mode, the refrigerator appears to be working because the lights are on, but it does not make cold air. To deactivate Cooling Off mode, press the Lighting and Freezer buttons at the same time for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and the "OF" changes to numbers enabling you to set the temperature. The RS265TDRS should begin to cool in about 5 minutes.
