Question

Strange noise when drawing water

When the fridge draws water for making ice or dispensing water, there is a loud noise while the water is being drawn - much louder than when the fridge was first delivered. This began after replacing the water filter. I reinstalled the filter which fixed the problem temporarily and the noise is now back.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We conferred with our resident home appliance expert and he recommended you make sure the water supply line to the refrigerator is fully open. He also recommended you try removing the water filter to see if the noise goes away. He indicated that there is also a possibility that the water valve is going bad as well. If this is the case, you will need to file a service request.

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/request

If the product is out of warranty, you have the option of ordering a replacement water valve via the link below and installing it yourself, if that's something you feel comfortable doing.

Question

Is the refridgerator suppose to run all the time?

We just got our fridge this afternoon so it is plugged in and our food is in it but it has been running(most of the time)since it was plugged in.If I open it to get something out it stops running and then I'll close it and a few minutes later it starts running again. It has not made alot of ice so I didn't know if that had anything to do with it.

Thank you for the question. The compressor in your new RS265 should run for as long as it needs to in order to reach then maintain the set temperature. It is not unusual for it to take as long as 24 hours for the refrigerator and freezer to reach the set temperature when first plugged in, depending on a number of factors, including how often the doors are opened, and what the temperature is of the food inside it. When the doors are opened, the fans will turn off to prevent the cold air from leaving the compartments.

no thats normal on refrigerators that are energy star compliant. my fridge does the same thing. it takes several days for you to accumulate enough ice as well. the ice tray only makes about 8 to 10 ice cubes per every few hours.

The letters "OF" on the display of your RS265TDBP indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. To cancel this mode, press the Lighting and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and a numeric reading returns to the display, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air.

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

When you initially installed the water filter, do you remember if you held down the WATER button for 3 seconds until it turned blue to activate the water filter quality indicator? The filter indicator will be blue when you initially insert the water filter, it will be purple after 5 months of use and it be red after 6 months of use. When it turns red, it's time to change the filter.

Question

How many LEDs should illuminate in the refrigerator?

The refrigerator side of my new RS265TDBP is not very well lit. There are 6 LEDs illuminated in the light tower lens with fairly large gaps between them. I went back to a store and looked at a similar model in stainless steel. There were 12 LEDs leading me to believe that they are wired in 2 circuits of 6 and one circuit is not working in my refrigerator. Before I ask my dealer about repairing a new refrigerator, I wanted to verify that this really is a problem. Please let me know if there should be 6 or 12 LEDs in the refrigerator compartment. Thank you very much.

The RS265TDBP has a reservoir built into the dispenser tray to catch spills. To prevent water and ice from escaping the glass, it's best to dispense the ice first, and hold the glass as close as possible to the spout while dispensing water.

Once a sufficiently low temperature is reached, your icemaker can start making ice. Following are the items to check to ensure maximum ice production:
- Is the water connected, the valve turned on and hoses unkinked and free of obstruction?
- Is your home's water pressure between 20~125 psi? Under normal conditions, a 5.75 oz. glass can be filled in about 10 seconds.
- Is the refrigerator set at the recommended 38°F? If the refrigerator is too cold, the water lines could freeze.
- Is the freezer temperature cold enough? Samsung recommends setting the freezer at -2°F.
- Is the icemaker turned on? Make sure the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display.
- Is the feeler arm under the icemaker stuck in the "up" position, which would signal to the icemaker that the bucket is full and to stop making ice.
- Is the control panel locked, which would prevent the dispenser from operating?
- Is the water filter installed properly and locked in place?
- Did you bleed the air from the lines by dispensing 5-6 gallons of water from the dispenser since installing or replacing the filter?
- Did you press the Test button on the icemaker to reset it?

We love our new Samsung frig, but have noticed a louder fan noise the last month or so. Anyone know how to fix this? Is it just a dirty fan/motor?

It is quite noticeable now, a louder whirring sound when the fan / compressor is on.

Some noises the refrigerator makes are normal and can be minimized by properly leveling the refrigerator or making other minor adjustments; others may indicate a need for service. If your refrigerator is not hooked up to water, please turn the icemaker off on the control panel to prevent the noise that results from the icemaker attempting to draw water. It is also normal for the sound of ice dropping into the bucket to be audible, although the volume of this sound should decrease as the bucket fills.
