Yes, the RS261MDRS does come with a small plastic "grate" that fits into the dispenser tray beneath the water dispenser. Please call 800-SAMSUNG if you received your new refrigerator and this piece was missing.

The serial number is located on a label on the left side wall inside the refrigerator. It is in very small print on the top right hand corner of the label underneath the bar code.

Open the big door and about half way down on the left side panel there is a tag with all the info about your fridge. Ours also had a removable tag on the left outside panel which I carefully removed and stuck it on my Use Guide.

There are a number of products available at your local appliance, hardware, home improvement or even grocery store specifically designed to clean real stainless steel. Simply follow the instructions on the package. Another option is to apply a small amount of baby oil to the stainless finish using a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. This will not only clean the stainless steel, but may help prevent marks and fingerprints from recurring.

Question

RS261MDRS no dispenser activated

Are the water and ice dispenser functions of the RS261MDRS refrigerator independent from the regular freezer and fridge functions? I.e. would I be able to operate the freezer and fridge without necessarily "activating" the water and ice dispenser functions?
We plan to buy a side-by-side refrigerator (probably RS261MDRS). BUT: We dont need/use these functions at all, yet the side-by-side refrigerators come with water and ice dispenser functions. From reviews it seems it's the most likely part to have problems, so I am thinking not running it at all....

The RS261MDRS can be used without the ice and water function. Be sure to select the ICE OFF button on the control panel, so the system "knows" not to try to draw water to make ice, which could cause some unnecessary noise.

Question

Why is there frost in the freezer?

Bought an RS261MDRS a week ago. Like the looks. 2 questions,

- there seems to be significant frost inside the freezer. The water/ice dispenser line is not connected to the water supply yet. Is it possible that warm air is entering into the freezer through this pipe (which is just coiled and taped behind the refrigerator) and is causing the frost?

- once in a while, a loud long grating sound emanates. It sounds louder than what is mentioned in the owner's manual, which talks about clicks. Is this something that a technician needs to look at?

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. The sound that you're hearing is probably caused by the icemaker attempting to draw water to make ice, and can most likely be corrected by selecting the ICE OFF button on the control panel.

It is unlikely that the frost is being caused by air coming through the disconnected water line, which leads to the icemaker, not the freezer itself. If the freezer door was removed for delivery, it's possible that the gasket which creates the seal between the entry to the ice dispenser on the door and the icebucket is misaligned, allowing warm air from the outside into the freezer compartment. I would also suggest checking the seal around the freezer door itself. Minor adjustments to the door alignment could correct the issue for you. Instructions for removing and reattaching the freezer door, leveling, and making minor adjustments to the doors begin on page 13 of the User Manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website. If, after checking and making these adjustments, you continue to have problems with frost in the freezer, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

Question

How do I replace a dented door?

My son accidentally put a large dent in the left door under the icemaker. The refrigerator is only 2 days old! I'm sick about it. Can I purchase a "skin" replacement (just the stainless steel outer shell)? If so, how do I go about getting one. If not, can we purchase a whole new left door? If this is our only option, what would the cost be and how would we order it?

Question

Problem with attaching the door handles

I had to remove the four white plastic cradles that are the receivers for the door handles. (To get the fridge in our door). I've put them back on, but now I can't even get close to making the handles attach when I lower them down. I'm following the UP and LOW instructions inside the handles. Any help, or is there a way I can see how the cradles are supposed to be aligned on the fridge? Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue with reattaching the door handles. Attached are pictures showing how the plastic "cradles" and handles should line up. (Please excuse the scratched photos - these sample units have been used for testing and handled extensively!)

Once the plastic pieces are attached in the proper position to the refrigerator door, align the handle over it, as shown in the picture, then pull the handle downward until it slides and locks into place. If the plastic pieces were damaged when you removed the handles, they may need to be replaced. If this is the case, please contact 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

The RS261MDRS uses a new two-stage dispenser which requires that you first select either water or ice type on the control panel, then press the dispenser lever to dispense. The first detent of the lever will dispense water if that is what was selected; if ice was selected, then be sure to push the lever all the way back, to the second detent.

Please click here for images of these instructions in the FAQ section of this website: http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...

You can check to see whether there is enough ice in the bin to be dispensed by removing the ice bucket from within the freezer compartment. If the icemaker is not producing ice, there are several troubleshooting tips to help correct this. Please visit the following link to open the Troubleshooting Guide, then select Water And Ice > Ice to review the relevant articles: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...

I'm sorry to hear your milk is not lasting to the expiration date. There are a number of factors that could cause the temperature inside the refrigerator to vary, and depending on where the milk is stored, it may or may not be at the optimal level. I would suggest moving the milk to a colder location within the refrigerator, such as near the vents, though be careful not to place it too close to the vents which, in some cases could cause it to freeze. If necessary, you may want to turn the refrigerator to the coldest setting if that seems necessary to optimize food preservation. You could check the circulation around the refrigerator to ensure it has the recommended space of 2" on each side, 2" on top and 2" in the back so the cooling system can work properly, and make sure the vent in the back of the refrigerator is free of dust and lint.

Thanks for the question. Samsung recommends setting the RS261MDRS temperature controls at 3 bars to start with for both the refrigerator and freezer. You can then adjust the controls up or down based on your personal preference. There is not a specific recommendation for California versus other states.

For information on adjusting the controls, please refer to pages 20-21 of the User Manual which can be downloaded as a pdf file from this website.

The letters "OF" on the display of your refrigerator indicate the Cooling Off mode has been activated. To cancel this mode, press the Lighting and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a chime sounds and the display returns to normal, allowing you to set the desired temperature. The compressor should turn on in about 5 minutes and begin producing cold air.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble leveling the legs on the RS261MDRS. Samsung refrigerators are designed to be set up on reasonably level surfaces, and the leveling legs are really intended to be used for minor adjustments. Is it possible that the area you're installing the refrigerator on is not level to begin with? If this is not an accurate assessment, and you believe the floor to be level and the refrigerator legs to be defective, I would suggest contacting 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can assist you further.

Question

Ice Maker noise

I just received the RS261MDRS refrigerator 2 days ago. The reviews said it was quiet, but when the ice maker gets ready to dump the ice, we can hear the gears/motor (like a grr sound) until it returns to accept more water-even my husband, who is hard of hearing, said "what's that noise?". Then there is a very loud swoosh as the water is filling the tray. I had an 11 year old GE and we could barely hear the ice maker. This is near our bedroom and I have been woken the past two nights because of the icemaker noise. Is this normal? I hate to think I have to shut off the icemaker every night and turn it back on in the morning.

The sounds you're describing are necessary to the operation of the icemaker, and are not unusual. If the refrigerator is close enough to your bedroom for the sound to disturb you, then turning the icemaker off at night may be the best solution.

The RS261MDRS does not require a water filter bypass cap, and can be used without the filter or a bypass cap in place. The "short cap" style bypass cap you're referring to is for use with the previous model water filtration system.
