I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. If ice is forming in the refrigerator, please make sure the temperature is set to the recommended 38°F, and the air vents in the refrigerator are not obstructed. I would suggest using a towel to try to remove any ice that has built up, then wait 24 hours after making any necessary changes as recommended above to see if the ice returns. If it does, your refrigerator will likely require service. To initiate service through Samsung, please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your RS253BAWW. If your refrigerator has been in storage, and if it were laid down for any period of time, it's important to stand it upright for at least 24 hours before plugging it in. Once plugged in, it could take as much as 24 hours for the refrigerator and freezer to reach the set temperature. If the control panel is not functioning properly and does not let you set the temperature, it may require service. Please call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who can help determine whether service is necessary.

There are several factors that could impact the refrigerator's ability to stay cold. First, if the freezer is cooling properly but the refrigerator is not, your unit will require service - see below for service request instructions.

If neither side is cooling properly, please check the power supply by plugging another appliance into the same outlet that the refrigerator was plugged into. If the power is not working properly, try cycling the circuit breaker and consult an electrician if necessary. Check to make sure the vents are not blocked inside the unit and there is sufficient clearance around the outside. If this does not resolve the issue, your RS253 may require service.

If the display on your RS253BAWW is blinking, it may indicate a problem with the freezer. The most common causes are a failure of either the cooling system or the defrost circuitry. Either way, service will be necessary to properly diagnose and treat the issue. I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your RS253BAWW. If you've already checked the water line to make sure it's on and unkinked, then it's possible the filter is clogged or partially clogged, or there is air in the lines. If the filter is new, you may need to press the lever for an extended period of time to bleed the air. If it isn't new, try removing it and pressing the lever again. If water dispenses without a filter installed, then it should be replaced. If not, service may be necessary. Please submit your contact information to our support team through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for the question. I would suggest adjusting the refrigerator temperature to the recommended 38°F or higher if it is currently set lower than that, which should allow the frost in the back of the refrigerator to thaw if it is operating properly. Otherwise, your refrigerator may require service to determine the cause of the ice build up and how to fix it. Forcing it to defrost by unplugging the refrigerator would not only compromise the other items you have stored, but will also prevent you from addressing the underlying cause.

Question

How to stop the condenser from freezing

Every 15 months or so the condenser freezes and water collects in the bottom of the fridge below the bottom crisper. It overflows onto the floor when the door is opened. We have placed a towel under the bin to absorb some of the water, but I'd rather not have to resort to that. The repairman told us we had to "defrost " the fridge for 4-5 days. Once the condenser is defrosted does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the condenser from freezing again?

Thank you for contacting Samsung.

We're sorry to hear you're encountering this issue. We have conferred with our resident appliance expert who indicates that the condenser is not freezing over, but rather the evaporator. He says if this is occurring around the same time every year, it most likely has to do with it being summer. If it is occurring all the time, he says it's possible that the evaporator heater is going bad, the evaporator sensor is going bad or is too close to the evaporator heater or the main PCB needs to be changed. He recommends that you file a service request to have this issue fully investigated and repaired.

It's not unusual for the display to blink if the internal temperature is different from the set temperature. This is normal if you've changed the setting, placed warm food inside the refrigerator or left the doors open for an extended period of time. If the display keeps blinking when none of these circumstances has occurred, your refrigerator may require service. Please submit an online service request through the link below, or call 800-SAMSUNG to speak with an agent who will be happy to assist you.
